29. Fate

The three of us, me, Iu, and Iris, made our way to the nearest bus station. We purchased tickets for a bus bound for Brasília, the capital of Brazil, hoping to gather more information and resources to help us in our battle against the Aspect of Wrath.

As we boarded the bus and found our seats, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease creeping in. The stakes were higher than they'd ever been, and the thought of facing such a powerful demon was daunting. But as I looked at Iu and Iris, I knew that we had no choice but to press on. We had come too far to give up now.

The bus ride to Brasília was long and tiring, but it gave us some much-needed time to rest and think. As the landscape outside our windows shifted from the dense jungle to the urban sprawl, we discussed our options and shared our thoughts on how to tackle the Aspect of Wrath. Iu delved deeper into her knowledge of demons and their weaknesses, while I tried to come up with a strategy that could turn the tide in our favor.

When we finally arrived in Brasília, we stepped off the bus and into the bustling city. It was a stark contrast to the slums and jungles we had left behind, with modern architecture and an air of sophistication that was both foreign and intriguing. We knew that somewhere within this sprawling metropolis, we would find the information we needed to confront the Aspect of Wrath so he could stop sending minions after my ass.

Since one of our objectives is to lay low, we ended up going to the slums of Brasília, there we found a 1 star motel for the night. As night fell, the sounds of the city faded into the background, replaced by the quiet hum of insects and distant voices.

Feeling philosophical, I turned to Iu.

Me: "What do you think about fate, Iu? Do you think our lives are just a series of predetermined events, or do we have the power to shape our own destinies?"

Iu, with her sharp wit, replied: "Fate is a complicated concept, even for someone like me who can catch glimpses of the future. You see, while some aspects of the future are set in stone, others can be altered by the choices we make."

Me in my usual cynical tone, responded: "So, what you're saying is that we're not completely powerless, but our control over our lives is limited? That's... reassuring, I guess."

Iu: "I suppose it's not the most comforting thought, but it's important to acknowledge our limitations. It's also crucial to understand that, although I can see some aspects of the future, I can't predict everything. There are too many variables at play, and even a slight change in one's actions can have a ripple effect."

Me: "I've always been skeptical of the idea of fate. It feels like a convenient excuse for people to avoid taking responsibility for their actions. If everything is predestined, then why bother trying to change anything?"

Iu: "It's true that some people use fate as a crutch, but that doesn't negate the fact that there are forces beyond our control. It's up to us to strike a balance between accepting the things we can't change and fighting for the things we can."

Me: "Well, that's a nice sentiment, but in the end, we're still just pawns in a cosmic game, aren't we?"

Iu: "Perhaps. But that doesn't mean we can't make our own moves and try to influence the outcome. After all, even pawns can be promoted to more powerful pieces if they play their cards right."

"Perhaps..."I threw myself onto the back of my bed.

All a big game huh...

With that thought in my mind, I fell asleep.
