Chapter 17: Doubts

P.O.V. Shimo

At the moment I was looking at Kūsō. He seems a little concerned about something. For the past few hours he had just been sitting and it looked like he was considering something.

"Shimo, I think we should move the attack up, I think we should attack tomorrow," He said looking at me.

"Mind if I ask why? After all the rest of your plan seems to be working just fine. Why suddenly move the date of the attack up?" I asked looking at him.

"I was watching King yesterday as he looked for humans to dispose of. However he found one, I'm not sure who she was exactly but she almost shattered my illusions and broke him free of his lost state," Kūsō said looking at me.

"Was it his master?" I asked looking at him.

"No, I think she said her name was Aoi. She told King how hard his friends were working to try and free him. It seemed to be working so I was forced to interfere. We can't let that happen again, so I moved the attack up we attack Star Shade tomorrow," He said looking at me.

I smiled hearing this, I was getting tired of waiting around and doing nothing. I then stood up and began to walk out of the cave. "I'll go tell King the good news. I suppose it's a good thing I'm not sure how much longer that illusion you had in front of the cave would have fooled people," I said walking out of the cave.

P.O.V. King

I dipped my hands into the small lake in front of me and splashed some water on my face in an attempt to keep myself awake. These nightmares are becoming a problem. Every time I manage to fall asleep those nightmares wake me up again.

I sighed as I stood up from the lake. When I did I sighed and leaned against one of the trees. I then saw several plants start to decay and die much faster than they should have. Seeing this I began to look around.

It didn't take me long to find the source of the decay. Inkosi was looking at me, he didn't show it but seeing how fast the plants died I could only guess that he was upset. "Inkosi, it's nice to see you again my old friend," I said looking at him and giving him a smile.

"Old friend?" He said looking at me. When I said this he smiled slightly and then began to laugh hysterically. "I see so the rumors are true," He said looking at me. I was confused hearing this and then noticed that even more plants started to die.

"What rumors?" I asked looking at him.

"The rumor that you're lost," he said looking at me. I was a bit confused to hear this and Inkosi started to laugh. "Look at you, you're so far lost that you don't realize it! They're playing you!" He said looking at me.

"King, you're one of the most powerful demons I've ever fought," Inkosi said looking at me. I then noticed that several trees had started to wither away.

"I suppose so," I said looking at him.

"So tell me how something like this happens?" Inkosi said looking at me. I was a bit confused by this. I must have shown my confusion because I noticed that several more plants started to die rather fast.

"How does what happen?" I asked looking at him a little confused. When I said this a black fog started to circle around him.

"HOW DOES SOMEONE AS POWERFUL AS YOU LET HIMSELF GET HYPNOTIZED LIKE A LITTLE BITCH! YOU HATE BOTH SHIME AND KŪSÕ! YET HERE YOU ARE SERVING THEM AS IF YOU HAD BEEN DOING IT YOUR ENTIRE LIFE. OF COURSE SHIMO, AND RIGHT AWAY KŪSÕ! IT'S MORE THAN JUST SICKENING TO WATCH! NOW PULL YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR GOD DAMN ASS AND OPEN YOUR FUCKING EYES! CAN'T YOU SEE THEY'RE JUST USING YOU! I CAN UNDERSTAND SHIMO! HE MAY ACTUALLY PRESENT A CHALLENGE TO YOU! BUT KŪSÕ? KŪSÕ IS SO FUCKING WEAK THAT HE HAS TO RELY ON PETTY TRICKS TO MAKE SURE HE WINS. I MEAN FOR FUCKS SAKE HE'S WEAKER THAN YOUR AVERAGE HUMAN! A FUCKING HUMAN COULD KILL HIS WEAK PATHETIC ASS! YET HERE YOU ARE UNDER HIS FUCKING BOOT!" Inkosi said looking at me.

It was clear that he was angry I'd never seen him use his magic so recklessly. "Inkosi, I'm more than willing to help you with whatever you need help with, but please clam down," I said looking at him. When I said this he took a few breaths and looked at me.

I looked around and noticed that life was starting to return to the plants that had started to die. "Whatever's bothering you must really be getting to you. After all it's not like you to lose your infamous cool," I said looking at him.

"King just answer me this," he said looking at me. "What do you think of your father?" Inkosi asked looking at me.

"My father? That's a strange subject but I suppose I can answer it. He's . . . he's," I began only to be stopped by an incredibly painful headache.

"You don't remember do you? That's just what I thought," He said looking at me. I then heard a few footsteps heading towards my direction. Inkosi must have also noticed because he sighed and looked at me.

"Seems like our time together is up. I'd rather not fight them at the moment. Just know this King. Shimo and Kūsōare not to be trusted because they will turn their backs on you," Inkosi said as he disappeared into the shadows.

P.O.V. Shimo

As I was walking through the forest I noticed that a few plants had died. I then saw King and began to walk towards him. He was holding his head and he seemed confused.

"King is everything alright," I asked looking at him. When I asked this he looked at me and summoned his scythe and attempted to attack me. I moved to the side and looked at him.

Did he somehow managed to break himself free of being lost as well as the illusions? I looked at his eyes and saw that they were still red instead of purple. That's good so he's still lost.

"King what was that about?" I asked looking at him. He looked at me a bit angrily. Is this what he's like without Kūsō's  illusions inside of his head?

"Sh-Shimo?" King asked looking at me suddenly starting to calm down.

"Yeah, it's me," I said looking at him. When I said this he sighed and his scythe disappeared.

"S-sorry about that, I wasn't feeling like myself," He said looking at me. I put on a fake smile hearing this and looked at him.

"Don't worry about it. Are you alright now?" I asked looking at him.

"Yeah, I'm fine now," King said looking at me.

"So what happened to suddenly make you lose control like that?" I asked looking at him. I need to find out what caused him to go berserk so I can tell Kūsō about it.

"I . . . I don't know," He said looking at me. I looked at him hearing this and noticed that his magic signature seems to be more defensive then usual. He doesn't trust me anymore.

"Well then let's head back to the cave, Kūsō has decided to move the attack up. We're attacking Star Shade tomorrow," I said looking at him. He nodded hearing this and we began to walk back to the cave.
