Chapter 4 *Edited*

A/N: Yes, you have a whole lot of money because don't we all wish we had millions? Also, all actual demons from Demon Slayer are demons in this AU but, did NOT do all the bad things they did in the anime/manga.

-------------------------------------------

It's been a month since Kyojuro and Senjuro left to live with Avery and, the two of you have remained in contact the whole time as always. Also, your job has re-opened which you were happy about, however lucky for you instead of it being a block away it was directly across the street from you! They had extended and, you were to be a part of it since you were conveniently close by. It was Thursday and, you were scheduled to go back on Monday.

"You're going back to work already?" Suma and Makio have gotten quite clingy with you. They all did really but, these two didn't hide it the way Tengen and Hinatsuru did. It seemed those two were the more mature ones.

"Yes, I am. It's going to be weird not being home all the time but, the good thing is I'm going to be right across the street! That means sometimes I can still come here on my lunch break and eat with you guys if that's something you want." Tengen and Hinatsuru were listening intently from a couple of feet away and, all four of them nodded vigorously making you giggle. "Then it's settled!" They had gotten their own lunch which you were insanely proud of. They had come so far! They still told you when they were going to eat and, abided by time but, the fact that they got it themselves was such an improvement.

"It's going to be lonely without you." You smiled at Suma cuddling her a bit more as well as Makio so she doesn't get jealous.

"Well, so you won't miss me so much you guys can find stuff to do! So, that time can fly by for you." The four of them soon fell into conversation with each other as you checked your online websites absent-mindedly. You got a notification of the adoption of demons from a fight ring that was broken up a year ago. You heard about that fighting ring and, were curious about the state of the demons. It seems some of them were ready. You looked around the apartment and, well, you were planning on buying the apartment next door to you that had 4 bedrooms... at this point, you were going to have to buy a sanctuary or something.

"Something the matter Y/N?" You turned to the four occupants who were looking at you curiously. You smiled shaking your head.

"Nothing to worry about. Just something I need to do money-wise." You excused yourself to the room and made quite a few phone calls. After roughly ninety minutes and, a couple of virtual calls and confirmations sent to your business phone and email, the next-door apartment was yours. "Love having connections and money." Now you had time to check out those demons. It was only half an hour's drive away from you. You went back out front to where the others were.

"Are you going anywhere?" You smiled at them giving all of them hugs.

"I will be back. I'm going to see some new rehabilitated demons who came from a fight ring a year ago. If I'm lucky I can bring them back. If not, well, hopefully, they do find a good home. I don't think that's too much to ask." With that said you left them to their own devices with a mission in mind. You felt better being open and honest with them and, they seemed to have liked it when you trust them. As you drove to the sanctuary you had both money and proof of being able to handle demons. This wasn't some shady backyard shenanigans. It was a legit adoption center. Your information was sent already but, you brought extra info just in case. You also brought collars, pretty ones since legally they needed one. You hated collars. You had pulled up, parked near the door, entering with the papers you brought just in case.

"Hello! Welcome to our sanctuary." You smiled talking with the front door girl for a while showing ID and, everything else you needed to show. She was very sweet and, finally took you to the back where some of the demons were.

"Are all of them available for adoption?" You were curious about them and, wanted to see all of them.

"Unfortunately, we got quite a few that came in about a month ago and, are not ready for adoption. They are looking more for slaughter, unfortunately." That caught your attention and she gave you a sad look. "I don't want to, I think all demons have the potential of being adopted. They seem so...human, I can't imagine the things done to them. It's unfair." You were starting to like this woman more and more.

"Is it okay for me to still see them?" You were hoping she would agree and became ecstatic when she did agree and took you to a separate hallway.

"I cannot show you their charts since they are not adoptable, but we have Muzan, Doma, Enmu, Akaza, and Obanai. All are extremely feral and hiss and growls at anyone who comes near them. Only recently they allowed someone to bring in food." They sounded like an interesting bunch and, you were still curious to see them.

"I don't need to look at their charts I just want to look at them and, observe before going to the adoptable demons." She smiled at you as she left you be. They were in rooms and, she was simply standing at the end of the hallway as you made your way to each room. The first room was Enmu and, he was one that looked a bit more demon. He was walking back and forth until he saw you and stood stock still staring at you. Without blinking. This gave you a chance to observe him. He had vertical pupils, red and black hair, and three yellow squares going below each eye, but the most interesting quality was the mouth on the back of his hand. You glanced down at it and, he showed it to you with an eery smile.

"It's creepy right?" They had a window next to their doors where you could interact with them and, you don't know what possessed you to do this but, you grabbed his hand ignoring how he stiffened up. You caressed his knuckles carefully aware of the mouth before slowly bringing your free hand up to his head for head pats. He looked like he short-circuited. You smiled as he stared at you with wide eyes but, they closed when you ran your fingers through his hair giving a light scalp scratch. You dragged your hand down the side of his face to cup his chin and caress whatever skin you can reach with your thumb. You let go of him watching as he had a blissed-out expression stumbling back a bit.

"Not creepy at all." You smiled at him and waved to him moving on to the next one which happened to be Akaza. You looked in the window and, he even looked more demon than Enmu. He had short pink hair, yellow eyes, ashen grey skin, and blue lines across his chest, face, and arms with blue fingertips. He noticed you watching him piercing you with a stare more intense than Enmu's. Judging by his physique he was definitely a fighter. You blinked and, he was in front of you. He's incredibly fast and, with him up close you saw that he in fact had yellow pupils and the sclera was that of broken glass. Interesting.

"Human." You blinked as he spoke and, he had razor-sharp teeth. All of them were sharp not only the canines. He was a little mean, you can tell but, that didn't bother you. More like scared and mean. All of them were.

"Pretty demon." He blinked in shock at you taking a step back. You decided to just pat his hand not wanting to scare him or make him growl at you. With that said you moved on to the next door which said Obanai. You were surprised to see him sitting rather close to the window looking up. He must have heard you and, was waiting for his turn. He glared at you and, he looked really mean especially with the scars on his cheeks from the sides of his mouth. That was fine though. He hissed slightly at you and his tongue was forked like a snake and he had one amberish yellow eye and the other turquoise. He had potential just like the other two though.

"Go away." You simply smiled at him nodding your head watching amused at how he couldn't hide his surprise. You did in fact leave him to go to Doma who was next. To your chagrin, he was already at the window with a large smile. Something felt extremely off about him despite how friendly he seemed. He was already reaching for your hand and, grabbed it bringing it to his face. You watched intrigued while mildly wondering why he wasn't ready for adoption.

"You're going to gouge my eyes out, right? Or pull a tooth? That means you like me, right?" Oh shit, you see the problem. You were slightly horrified that he thought that was normal. Damn, you didn't want them to kill him.

"Touch is not supposed to hurt darling." He looked at you with a confused smile.

"Why are you lying to me? There is no need to lie I know the rules." You grimaced at that and he looked triumphant for the wrong reasons as the grip on your hand tightened a bit.

"I do not know what rules you were forced to abide by and, get accustomed to but, they were horribly wrong. Touch is not supposed to hurt. That was a bad touch. You are not supposed to be used to a bad touch." You moved your hand from his now loose grip and went to cup his cheek caressing his skin. "This is a good touch." You used your other hand to scratch his scalp watching him flinch and fight it but, sink into it at the same time. It was a depressing sight. "This is also a good touch." He looked like he might start crying or smiling for real so you decided to stop to keep from overstimulating him. When you pulled away he followed your hand so you left your hand on his cheek as he calmed down. "As you can see love, that's a good touch. Touch is not supposed to hurt. Ever. Please remember that. You deserve a chance at happiness." You pulled away completely watching a bit painfully as he slid down the wall to sit on the floor. You had one more demon to see. When you got to his cage he was already standing and glaring at you.

"What the hell do you want?" Well damn, this one was rather prickly. He spoke before you even got to the window. When you got closer you noticed the man looked just as monstrous. His legs and arms were covered with mouths that had the same razor-sharp teeth as the mouth on his face. His arms, legs, and lower belly were covered in red. He had rubies for eyes and long flowy white hair. He was beautiful at face value. The way he was glaring at you would make a weaker person fold. You weren't that person. You leaned on an arm just observing him. Even as he got nose to nose with you. Oh, this demon was bold. Extremely bold.

"Is this one of your scare tactics? It's lackluster." You smiled softly at him as he fumbled a bit. It seems this was the first time it didn't work. "I can see why you're considered unadoptable. You came from a fight ring, right? Probably the same one as Akaza." The way he flinched meant yes. "Judging by the way you both look, you both were champions who never got pitted against each other. Or maybe you did and felt guilty because you see each other as equals or even friends but, humans are cruel." You tilted your head to the other side your eyes never leaving his. "You both were fed pretty well considering neither one of you are skin and bones like most demons from fight rings. That means you both earned them a lot of money. You both killed a lot of demons as well. You both only got praise for killing, for being cruel even if you didn't want to. It's all you know. It's a sad life. Now that you got a second chance you don't know how to act because it's all-new. Having to unlearn rules that were beaten into you. It's hard. Your life was hard and, I wish it wasn't but nothing can be done now. Please Muzan." You put a hand on his cheek glad he didn't move away. "Don't throw away such a beautiful chance at a new life. Let yourself heal. Sometimes the grass is greener on the other side." You patted his cheek stepping away from him. With a head tilt, you waved at him not expecting an answerback.

"Bye...." You looked at him with open surprise before smiling with all your teeth. You turned away missing how red his cheeks turned. As you passed the rest of them you waved at all of them who now were standing at their windows. They either held their hand up or just stared as the girl stared at you flabbergasted.

"I think we made the right choice about you..." You smiled at her going now to the adoptable demons. There were a few. "We only have siblings." You nodded your head not minding in the slightest. You thought it was better because demons can become quite upset without each other's siblings. When you made it you saw three sets of doors. One door had the names Daki and Gyutaro, the second door had Yoriichi and Michikatsu, and, the third door had Muichiro and Yuichiro. Those last two sounded eerily similar and you just had to ask.

"Are the second and third sets of siblings related to each other in any way?" The girl gave you a surprised look.

"Yes, how did you even guess that?" You shrugged your shoulders. You didn't have a definitive answer it was just a hunch and your hunches never did steer you wrong. You were starting to thank your lucky stars you bought that extra apartment.

"I think you're going to be more surprised when I tell you I want all of them." The only thing that prevented her from falling to the floor was professionalism. She blinked, mouth dropped.

"You haven't even seen them!" You shook your head. You didn't need to see them. You'll keep the four relatives in the new apartment until they get accustomed to your presence and, you'll keep Gyutaro and Daki with you and your other four demons. You feel it would work out just fine.

"That's fine. I got 6 collars for a reason. I will take them all. I don't want anyone else to get them. I can handle them. You guys already have all of my information so you know that I am not lying." You both talked, signed papers, and paid. Now all the doors were opened and, you had 6 collars in hand. You entered Daki and Gyutaro first and, you stopped. Daki was clinging fearfully to Gyutaro with wide teary eyes. She looked so young and Gyutaro was shaking but, still stood in front of her. You really didn't want to know their backstories. "Hi, my name is Y/N L/N and I'm going to be your new owner. I got two collars. I think this green one will suit you and, this baby blue one will suit your little sister. You both look scared so you can put it on to keep me from touching you." You walked slowly and deliberately reaching out to hand them the two collars. They just stared at you.

"You do it!" You were surprised the little girl spoke but, instantly hid. She was still scared. You bent down and, showed her the collar.

"I will if that is what you want. Let me just show you that it doesn't hurt. See" You showed her the inside of the collar. "It's soft and has no spikes. No pain. I will take it off of you as soon as we are in the car. Your brother as well. No need for you two to be uncomfortable." She reached out with a finger to feel the collar and, gave a hum. She breathed and stepped out closing her eyes. You swiftly but, gently placed the collar and stood up placing the collar on Gyutaro who had not stopped staring at you. At least you assumed the brother was Gyutaro.

"Soft..." You smiled backing up to give the two of them space. You smiled softly at them as they toyed with the collar but, Gyutaro gave you a distrusting look. Understandably so.

"I will be right back I'm going to go see the others." You went to Yoriichi and Michikatsu not expecting identical twins. You blinked and, they blinked back. Both of them had red markings across their face but, one had 6 eyes and the other had one set. Interesting dynamic. They both had blank looks as they watched your every move like hawks. It was unnerving how... emotionless both of them were. They were going to require work. "Hi, my name is Y/N L/N. I'm adopting you and your family next door as well as Gyutaro and Daki." If you weren't looking for it you would have missed the slight widening of their eyes. They were really alike. "I just need you two to put these collars on. I know you never got the choice but, I do not have to touch you if you don't want me to. I thought the burgundy and dark purple ones match you two." You moved forward until you were in front of them since they were standing and, handed the collars over for them to grab.

"Why..." You tilted your head at the six-eye one and he had slow speech but, firm and strong.

"Why not? I feel all demons should be given a choice even if it's not a reality. At least, I can do that for the demons I adopt." They both held your gaze for a solid minute before slowly grabbing the collars. You smiled a bit bigger at them moving away to give them space. "I will be back." You turned around knowing they were watching you all the way until they couldn't. You finally made it to where Yuichiro and Muichiro were seeing they both were standing. They were identical twins as well. You smiled at them and, showed them the last two collars. "I am sure you two heard everything I was saying. I promise this won't be bad. I just need you guys to put the collars on. I can do it but, if you do not want me to touch you then I won't." They were more scared than you thought so you stepped forward a bit wincing at their flinch. You placed the collars down in front of them. "You both can put the collars on then. I won't touch you." They both just stared at you.

"You're our owner though. You are supposed to." You smiled at the two of them.

"I know. However, the two of you are extremely frightened. I do not wish to do that so as your owner I am giving you a choice." They seemed to have frozen at that. They really never got a choice in anything huh? They both stood there not knowing what to do. This was going to be rough. The one in the front grabbed the collars by their feet and, looked at them before looking back at you holding it out. You got the message. "I'll be quick and gentle." You did just that. Quickly fastened the collars around their necks stepping back. "Come. It's time to go to your new home with Michikatsu and Yoriichi." They brightened up visibly at that. When you stepped out of their room everyone was already out of their rooms waiting. You walked to the front with all of them trailing behind you.

"They need leashes." You turned to see a different person. Some mean-looking person.

"I'm not putting leashes on them. It's embarrassing enough they got to wear collars." With that said you left with your new demons walking behind you. You heard a soft call of "Ume" and jumped when you felt a hand grab onto yours. You looked down in shock that the little girl who seemed utterly terrified of you was gripping onto your hand like a lifeline. She was smothering your hand into the side of her face. You sighed turning to Gyutaro with a sincere smile who looked petrified. "I won't hurt her. Never." You turned back around to go into the car watching as they all climbed into the 8-seater awkwardly with jittery nerves. Gyutaro kept looking at the little girl.

"So warm..." Ah, she wanted your warmth. You picked her up gently going to Gyutaro in the back.

"I'm giving you back to your brother okay sweetheart? He is really worried about you. You don't want to worry your brother, right?" She popped up at that shaking her head vehemently crawling her way to Gyutaro who sagged in relief. You closed the door gently, entered the driver's side, and pulled off. You felt their eyes on you but, you didn't mind. You were thinking of the outcomes of doing all of this.
