Ch. 15: Adam Smith

It was a rainy day, sometimes lightning strikes. I am a lonely man that none ever wanted. Not even by my own family...

"Adam, I told you to clean your room, didn't I?!" Mother once again scolded me. It was a hard thing to adapt since I understand her being a demon.

I slightly nodded and headed off to my room to clean it. Afterwards, I stared at the window for hours. I was thinking of an escape. I do love my parents but how long will they control me? I'm already 25, I want to have a family of my own.

While staring at the window, I saw my ideal form of family. There was a man in his twenties with a woman who seems like they have the same age, a child who's a toddler, and a dog they walk around. I was surprised to see a family walk by in this street. They say that my street is haunted and that no one can ever make it alive. A lot of people believe that so I don't know why they're dumb enough to actually go here. It's not a myth though, but it's not real either. It's hard to explain.

Seeing this, I panicked, jumping from my room. I'm half demon and agile enough to not be injured when I jumped. My room is in the second floor, by the way.

I immediately ran to the family right after I landed. "Don't step into that line!" I shouted.

The whole family turned to me and paused, almost stepping in the line.

"There's a creature there that eats humans. You need to turn back and return where you came from. NOW." I warned.

"Oh, you're silly. There's no such thing." The woman chuckled and cocked her head to the side.

"Yeah, that's right. We wanted to prove the world that the myth is false. You'll see, everybody will see!" The man continued with sparkling eyes and face full of hope.

Mine, however, is a face full of terror. My ideal family is going to get killed by the monster once they pass the white line that divides the non dangerous monsters and the most dangerous ones, that even the other monsters couldn't attack.

I tried convincing and persuading them to stop. They thought about it in my second attempt.

And then, unknowingly to us, the toddler started walking to the line. The dog barked crazily, and that's when we glance. The young child's body was horribly cut into pieces and the body lies down there, dead.

The couple immediately reacted, as well as the dog. The leash on the dog slipped down from the man's hands and we witness the killing of the dog. The monster, who was like an air assassin, slices the dog up into pieces and left the body, like how it happened to the toddler.

The couple cried for their losses and looked at each other. They nodded and purposely stepped into the line. Once they did, they were immediately cut by the monster from behind.

Once he sees that there are no other humans, he proceeded to eat the bodies, starting from the toddler.

"Thanks for the meal, Adam!" He said with a bright smile used to mask his scary abilities.

I wasn't able to respond since I was actually trying to pull them out from that tragedy.

"Urgh, as I expected, blood tasted really weird. I wonder how those Cullen family gets to drink this." Jack complained. He went inside his house and took what seems like a carafe and scooped out all the blood from the toddler and tossed it to me. I caught it, naturally. "Take it. I don't need it."

Once I caught the carafe, I didn't know what to do so I decided to take a little sip. Once the human blood touched my lips, I backed away immediately, repeatedly spitting away all the remains. It tastes so horrible!! It tastes like metal with rust and all that. Jack and I really don't know how the Cullen family were able to drink these in a lot of human bodies like what the hell?!

"What am I supposed to do with this?!"

"I don't know. Experiment on them or something? You're smart, you can think of a way. I'm not, so I just pass them all to you." Jack straightforwardly explained.

I sighed, moping my way back to my house. It was already evening when I came back so my parents are already sleeping soundly in their own rooms.

I wonder what I can do with this amount of human blood. I can't cross to the line where the Cullen family are. They're usually not in their house.

Experiment, he says. What kind of experiment?

"Brother? What are you doing up so late?"

I recognize that voice instantly. The one little girl who keeps on sneaking up behind me!

"Senna! How many times did I tell you not to sneak up on me like that!?" I scolded a toddler like a teen. It's really shameful and disgusting if you think about it.

Senna, a 3 year old toddler and my half sister, is a child that my mother kept hidden from my father. If he would see, mother would get busted for cheating. I don't want to end up with this kind of complicated family. And I don't want to tell Senna, but I think she already knows it by now.

"I'm sorry brother. I was just passing by and saw how useless you seem. I just can't turn away from this opportunity, you know~~" she says with a smirk.

I sighed, knowing her personality right now. She can be a sadist, ordering people around in her own will. Sadly, she has no friends to order around so she kept on picking on me instead.

Despite her age, her maturity sometimes surpasses mine. A demon's age is really fast in Earth. I'm already 125 years here but if I go to Hell, I'll only be 25. In Senna's case, she's already 35 in Earth. Of course, no one held any grudges about it, especially Senna. She doesn't seem to mind as she's fully aware of her own species, her family's species, and her...other family's species. I'm surprised that she can endure this long without uttering a single word to others about her own feelings.

"Can you help me with this?" I asked her, shoving the carafe on her face.

She took the carafe and studied it closer. "Human blood, huh. Don't drink this. Only that vampire family would. Someone who's dumb enough will actually take a sip and then spit it out afterwards." She smirked at me again. I can see her eyes glinting of sadistic delight. So she saw, huh. "Anyway, this is useless for experimenting in cases other than poison. I can't exactly explain but you get the point. Human blood is different from demon's so you need to get a human to test out your experiment once you're done. That's all I'll tell you." She threw the carafe at me and turned around, heading towards the exit.

She's also intelligent. I can count on her when I don't know anything about something, just past her sadist phase.

So, following her basic commands, I started to see how I can experiment with this human blood.

1 week later.

I finally have a poison that can dissolve the human blood!

"You're so stupid, brother."

I felt the warm breath that again sneaked up on me. I shuddered by the sudden appearance and almost throw out my experimented poison. I was lucky to catch the tube that was holding the liquid poison before any of it leaks out.

"What is it this time, Senna?!"

"I was hinting you to make a poison out of the blood, not for the blood." She scolded me with a cold blank expression.

"When are you going back to Hell anyway?! You've never been anything than a troublemaker for me!"

She started to slowly walk towards me, with her head bowing down. When she was already close enough, she took out her precious powerful staff that mother gave to her as a demon weapon and pointed at my throat. "Excuse me, but who was the one that told you to make poison out of that disgusting human blood?" I gulped. "And who was the one who helps you in your homework when you were in a pinch?" She held the staff closer to my throat. "Who was the one that you said you can count on?" She glared.

My palms, my whole body started trembling and sweating, like heavy downpour is starting at my body.

The staff is getting closer. Closer and closer...

"Adam, are you there? I need to talk to you." I heard my father's voice from the other side of the door.

Senna and I were surprised. "Quick, hide!" I told her. Senna dived under the bed while I clean my room and slowly open the door. "What is it?" I asked the man.

"I think it's time for you to work." He said with a hopeless fake smile.

"About time. You should've unbind these chains a long time ago, since I graduated. Why do you think I need to go to work at this time around?" I crossed my arms out and glared, piercing this old man's soul.

"I'm sick."

"Of course you are. Humans are often like that at old age, right?" I was about to close the door at him but I abruptly stopped. "What's my work?"

1 year later.

"Farewell brother, I hope we never meet again." Senna grimaced as she waved at me goodbye.

"Same to you." I waved with a fake carefree grin.

My father is in the hospital by now, and my mother went with Senna as they both go to Hell. This benefits the whole family. My father wouldn't witness my mother's hidden cheating business that would probably make his heart attack kill him faster, mother and Senna, the two troublesome girls in my life, decided to leave, and I'm home alone with a girl I met. She's a wonderful, sweet, kind girl that I fell in love with.

I met her at work. She's a nurse at the reception and I'm a doctor in the ER. At first, I hated her easygoing personality. She remains calm even in the most unusual events in her life. It annoys me that there's a human that would exist like that. But overtime, I didn't know that I will fall for this kind of person. She has a hidden personality inside of her that I want to see so badly. That kept me interested. She was my first genuine human friend. I felt secured around her, she wouldn't betray me... That's what I thought.

Maria, my wife, became pregnant and had a baby boy by the next year. Right after the boy's birth, Maria looked at me in the eye and said with tears flowing out of her eyes. "Keep the baby safe." How will I do that? I wanted to voice out. But I know that she wouldn't hear me so why will I say it to her?

I held our baby close to my chest and hear it hopelessly crying. I was also crying, not as loud as he is, but tears are flowing from my eyes as fast as his, maybe even faster. I hugged the baby as my last remembrance of Maria.

She didn't betray me, I thought. She never did...

Not knowing what to do, I kept the unnamed baby all to myself. I didn't know what to do, I don't know what to do! I researched about what to do with children but I knew the easiest answer.

I put the baby in a basket, wrapping him with cloth and put him by the door of an orphanage. I ran away afterwards, not to look suspicious. I sighed in relief as I saw one of the workers brought him in.

But before I sent him off, of course I wouldn't want him to be in danger so I sealed off his presence as a demon the same way I sealed off mine before. It was like a devil's magic and it won't wear off that easily. I know that I couldn't sustain his needs as our species are different, I don't know how to raise you, so I hope someone else that's most likely to be a human, will raise you so well that I can't see you as my son.

After 5 years.

I was in the bathroom, brushing my teeth. Then, my phone started ringing so naturally, I would answer it even if I'm brushing my teeth.

"Hello?" I said in a muffled voice. My mouth is full of toothpaste foam.

"Brother, Mother died."

I knew it... She's still my mother and I genuinely care about her...just like what I feel about that old sick...dead man.

"Spit out all the details." I said after I gargled and spat out the water.

"She was one of the victims of TCM666D. You know that news, right?"

"Of course, why wouldn't I? You'll avenge her, right?"

"Of course, why wouldn't I?" She copied my tone. "You'll avenge too, right?"

I smirked before answering. "That goes without saying."

Hmm... The culprit must've been the King. Since he's in Hell Jail, I couldn't touch or interact with him. If I'm not mistaken, he has a daughter, right?

"Keep me updated, ok?"

"Sure." She replied then hung up.

Fast forward to the present.

"Brother, I heard that Celeste is in Earth. It's your turn now. I'll follow afterwards."

"Thanks, Senna."

------

I woke up lying down on my bed. Man, that cure that Cervi gave me really worked! After an overnight sleep, I was able to restore all my strength!

I walked outside my room with a very cheerful expression. The strength that I lost was restored at last!

I was about to throw myself out of the railings but I saw my friends hanging around there.

"Ah, she's awake. Good morning, Celeste." Cervi's the first one who noticed me, which is because he is seated on the couch that faces my direction. I'm on the left side and they're on the right side but particularly Cervi's couch faces my direction so he was able to notice very quickly. "You were asleep for a whole day." He continued to smile, albeit chuckled a bit. I think no one heard it but me.

"Today is Thursday afternoon, October 6." Joan more specifically stated.

"Hey C, how are you feeling?" Zan asked, waving at me. He's the one seated on the couch that's facing away from me.

My delightful expression continued on my face and ran towards them.

"Why are you here?"

"Partially because we want to visit you." Joan answered.

"And partially because Sebastian took us." Zan continued.

"Hm? That delinquent's not here?" I  looked around.

"He's the one who's exhausted out of us, and the last one Sebastian took. He said something like... 'I'll visit her later.' That's what we got by reading his lips and mouth movement at least." Zan answered.

"I see..." He will enter by the window again. I wonder what time that "later" is gonna be.

"I'm going to eat dinner. What time are you going to leave?"

"We're leaving now. See you, Celeste!" Zan answered without looking at the time. No one has a watch.

I didn't bid them goodbye and headed straight to the dining room. Angelo made me curry rice. It was as typical as always. As always, every human food tastes the same.

I headed back to my room and lie down on my bed. The souls that I keep in my black hole are already half empty. I wouldn't want to blow my cover. So I wonder what I can do...

------

"Senna? SENNA!" I desperately called out. "Shit, where is she?!"

I ran to the school she's residing in. I forgot the name though. It was something like... Class A School or something. The school that only accepts rich or smart people. Senna's smart so she was accepted.

I made my way to the guards and entered the Royalties room. But, there was no one there. Senna never leaves this place!

I looked around and saw an open door. I non-hesitantly ran, not caring about the creepy atmosphere it has. Then there it was, I heard a stab, and blood gushing out. I was too distracted by the sound that I didn't hear anything but that. Their dialogues, I cannot read it. Their expressions, I cannot see it. My vision is blurry, my ears and nose are clogged.

"Bro...ther..." I saw and heard my little sister uttering her last words with a whisper as she looks at me with tears in her eyes. "I'm sorry."

It was not the stab that killed her. It was the poison in Celeste's spear.

After killing Senna, she looked around the place. She was about to attack the secret room that Senna has for poison. But she didn't...

I ran back, for as far as I can without her noticing me. And at that time, when she was also gone, I took Senna's small-statured body and walked back to my house.

I tried several things to revive her but I couldn't. I shed tears, who wouldn't? If their little sister who you can count on died, you would shed tears too, would you not?

At that time, I lost every loved one I have.

I lost to everything that I would mug some people just to keep up with my needs. It was a hard thing to do, but I thought that it will help me enhance my skills to confront that devil woman!

So I was happy when I finally had a chance to take the offensive side without her actually noticing. She's with a human. That's ok, this poison I will spray at her is only lethal to demons. This poison is specially made for you, Princess.

Hahahaha!! The file I gave her is actually an unsolvable file that even I myself couldn't solve! I only solved that...information...that...

Oh my god, that information is my weakness! Ha, if only she could search for my son, I would appreciate it instead of punishing her more.

I wonder what will happen from now own, I thought as I look at the sky and adjusting my hat.

------

Friday. Morning.

"Hey, how long are you still going to stay there? Hurry up and let's go!"

"WAIT! WAIT!!" I hopelessly cried out as I struggled with my black shoes. I usually wear ankle boots and high heels but these black shoes really are uncomfortable so I tried hard to wear them.

In the end, I said "fuck it." And just carried my shoes with me while I wear my usual light brown fluffy ankle boots.

"I'm coming, I'm coming." I panicked as I dashed my way to the window.

With the small space that Kanae left, I squeezed my way through and dived right away. When I almost reached the ground, I levitated myself and landed safely on my feet.

Kanae climbed down from the tree nearby my bedroom window and also landed safely.

He already done this multiple times. It would be an unbelievable scene if he still didn't landed safely. I would sigh, smack myself, and probably kill him for acting so stupidly.

"Hey Missy, aren't you going to get in trouble for your reckless actions?"

I turned to him with a blank face and solemnly answered. "I don't care."

I turned back and continued on walking on a straight path, not looking back to check on Kanae, even though it's silent on the back. The only footsteps I hear are mine.

When I was too careless on focusing to the path I take to my school, when I turned back, Kanae wasn't there following behind me.

I turned to the front again and I saw a tall man who's wearing a dirty trench coat with a hat that has the same color. I knew it. One small glance and I already know who it is.

"Adam Smith." I whispered under my breath. "Did you do something to Kanae?!" I shouted, holding up his collar even though he's much taller than I am.

"Who?" He asked innocently, raising his brow.

"The one who...follows...me..." I answered, my voice gradually fading away as I realize that he doesn't know my friends. He didn't research about me that much, right?

Realizing how uncivilized I acted just now (because of these stupid human emotions), I jumped down from him, dusted my clothes, and cleared my throat, signaling myself to act as someone else entirely.

"What is your business here?"

"Nothing in particular. I was just passing by." He looked around, looking like he was checking twice if he got to the right path.

"Well, I'll let you know that this path is the path to my school, so this is really a coincidence, is it not?" I used my deceiving ability to deceive him that I act so professional. Behind this act, though, is a person who wouldn't stop fidgeting because of nervousness.

"School? There are no schools here." He doesn't seem to be lying. His voice is flowing smoothly yet at the same time, a hint of confusion.

"Class A School. Is it not here?" I asked, raising a brow.

"Class A School... That sounds unfamiliar. I don't know that place." Adam puts his finger on his chin as to think deeply.

Inside, I'm already freaking out crazily. It's like I will die from this nervousness from death.

I looked around to check for someone who possibly knows where Class A School is.

I saw a girl who's wearing the same uniform so I ran up to her, ignoring the stoplight when it glowed red. Well, there was no problem anyway. While crossing the street, I carelessly ran, but I didn't get hit nor the drivers. Must be their lucky day.

"Excuse me, do you know the way to Class A School?" I asked, tapping her by the shoulder.

"Oh, it's still on the street. You should've turned left at the intersection and not just a straight path."

I was stabbed by her cruel honest words. In my own world, I'm already standing in all fours, hanging my head in despair.

"Umm... Would you mind explaining why you are here?"

"Ah, I wasn't paying attention." She answered honestly. This woman is honest, I assume.

"There you are!" I heard from afar. That guy's voice carelessly caught a lot of attention. He ran to me, panting heavily. What did he do this time? "You stupid little--"

"Ok, you're here, take me to school." I immediately commanded as soon as he gets close to me. I tugged his black blazer.

"Are you kidding?! At least let me rest for a while!"

"Umm, excuse me..." The girl meekly said to catch our attention. Unbelievably, it worked. We all turned to her, even some of the outsiders who have a lot of free time in their hands. "Do you mind if you also take me there?"

"I thought you--"

"I'm a new student there and I got lost so, if you would be kind enough, please--"

"I have heard enough." Kanae cuts her off.

She was obviously surprised. If you don't anticipate the listener's reply, why even ask? Idiot.

"I'm going to take you there." He continued.

"What?!" The girl and I simultaneously replied with different expressions and reactions. One has eyes sparkling in delight and smiling widely from ear to ear, and the other has fire spurting out from every inch of her body with flaming eyes of anger. You get which is who.

Annoyed, I clicked my tongue and turned around.

"Hey Missy, are you sure you can go all by yourself~~?" This guy decided to tease me.

"You choose. You can only take one." I replied, turning my head to face him.

"Why? I can take both, right?" He smirked wider.

"Psh." I turned around.

"Hey! I ran all the way here just for you! Are you just going to waste all my energy that I exert for you?" He huffed. "Be considerate once in a while!"

I paused, not facing him. I slightly turned my head and whispered "I am." I think he got it.

I continued to walk to a straight path but I suddenly felt a grab on my arm. I instinctually looked behind. The moment I did, he carried me bridal style and began running again in such speed.

"What are you doing? Put me down this instant!" I struggled. I know for sure that if I let go, I'll badly graze my back.

"Don't you dare defy your Master's orders."

That shocked me into realization. Of course, I forgot that I'm this piece of shit's familiar.

I hung my head and stopped struggling. My hand swept his shirt as it fell. I was supposed to grab his shirt and repeatedly shake him until he drops me. But I guess that won't work now.

"This place is empty!" I complained as I accompany Kanae drinking the bottled water he just bought.

"The school's looks like an abandoned facility. Where are the other students?"

"There are none. Check the time."

I walked to the wall clock that's located near the guard's area. It's just 6 am. So all that, was to make me a bit late? Or find some company while at it?

I suspiciously looked at Kanae, squinting. "6?" I asked with a hint of anger. I cocked my head to the side as I slowly approach him. "You were endlessly telling me to go to school."

Kanae paused. He placed the water bottle next to him at the table and faced me with a terrifying serious expression. "I..."

I backed away and ran towards the doorway of the cafeteria, peeking my head out to partially listen to his story.

"Missy, what are you doing there for? It isn't fun if you don't go near." Of course, he decided to tease. Why wouldn't he? It's his usual personality now.

"I'm scared of you."

"Why? I'm not holding any weapons, am I? And you're more powerful than me. So why?"

"I'm not scared of your physical appearance or bloodlust. I'm scared of your emotions." I started.

Kanae looked at me, puzzled. I sighed and was about to speak again but we heard a vehicle stop by at the gate. Knowing that someone else is interested on going to school at 6, we dashed there, ignoring our previous conversation entirely. Kanae still holds his water bottle as he dashed by the school gate.

"Ah, it's that girl." Kanae pointed.

"That you left." I continued.

"I have a name, you know." She chuckled. "My name is Antoinette Clarice, AC for short. I am a new student here." She calmly expressed. "Nice to meet you."

Kanae and I looked at each other and then back at her again. We both cocked out heads to the side with the same puzzled expression.

"This school is still accepting students?!" We both thought aloud.

She giggled, carrying her bag like it's nothing heavy. If only by looking, I would say that it's as heavy as an anvil. "I'm looking forward to meeting you."

"And she's our classmate?!" Kanae and I continued, still surprised to know about that.

She went straight to the classroom like she knows where it is even though it's just the first day.

"Wait AC, why did you leave me?" Another girl emerged from the same vehicle. Compared to AC, she's more messy in appearance, but civilized in manner. She's shorter than AC, but looks older than her. "Ah." She realized. "Excuse me, my name is Lana and I'm looking for Antoinette Clarice or AC. Have you perhaps seen her?" And also compared to AC, she's more formal and not scary. With AC's first personality, I could see her deceiving skills like a professional. That's why I'm cautious around her.

"She ran upstairs, 3rd floor, first classroom to the left." Kanae gave the directions, pointing upwards with his index finger.

Immediately understanding this, Lana bowed. "Thank you." She said before dashing to the same path that AC took.

"What is she? Like a bodyguard or something?" Kanae asked as he continued to drink from the water bottle.

"I don't know but it looks like it." I said, eyeing my suspicions on her. "She does look older, right?"

"Yeah."

"So, what were you saying? Why did you invite me so early in the morning to school?" I brought the question back.

It made him choke on the water and blush with a shade of dark pink. I don't want to openly admit but he's cute when he blushes. I think everybody is.

"N-never mind..." He meekly whispered, holding the bottle on his left hand and, like hiding it, holds something on the right. The arm position gives it away even though I'm standing by his left side and it limits my vision to actually know what it is.

I decided to let him go since I don't particularly care anyway. "Ok. Whatever you say." I slightly smirked accompanied by a slight shrug. "But let me tell you this. No matter what, our friendship wouldn't change. That's what I like to happen..."

I wasn't even finished and Kanae already looks at me in awe.

"...so if those two girls tempt you, I think I would have to change my mind." I finally finished.

Kanae changed his expression to a blank face after I finished. He looks at me, staring blankly with a small hint of anger in that blank stare. It was nothing scary or suspicious. It was like he wants to say something to me that would probably hurt me, but deciding back and forth whether he should do or not.

In the end, after around 2 minutes, he exasperatedly sighed and bent his arm that looks like he was trying to escort me.

I looked at it, confused.

"Whatever you say Missy. Now, let's go and get to know those two girls while there are no people yet, shall we?" Kanae smiled. I don't care how small it is, but I'm glad that he is genuinely smiling. It was not the usual bullying smile, it was an unusual genuine smile. I don't know how he got this kind of smile though. It was so rare that I'm confused if it's fake or not.

I smiled back, inserting my hand in his arm as we walk on the same path as those two new girls took.

After just a step, I quickly withdrew. Kanae looked at me with a satisfied expression. "What's with that reaction?" He asked, further pressing my berserk button.

"You're sweaty! Don't go near me!" I scolded. Why was I so stupid to be deceived by his real-looking small smile that I was lured in his trap?

He laughed it off, saying, "Hahaha. I didn't know that you would go just because of my genuine smile!"

"What?" I abruptly stopped lecturing him. "Genuine?"

"Yeah, it was a genuine smile." He answered, slowly calming down from his excessive laughter.

I smiled again, running to the stairs. "Catch me if you can, you piece of shit~~!" I invited playfully.

"I regained some of my strength so I can chase you!" He sounded threatening but in a fun way.

I was laughing, dashing playfully by the hall and classrooms.

"You know we shouldn't be here."

An unrecognizable voice inside our classroom caught my attention so I stopped and placed my head close to the door to further listen to their conversation.

"We're just following his orders, remember?" It sounded like AC's voice but deeper. She sounded dead serious about the topic.

"I know but--" I heard sobbing. And it sounds like Lana's.

I'm amazed at myself that I can memorize their voices even though they just came.

"Stop crying, Lana! If you do that, he will--"

"There you are!" Kanae shouted. Of course, the two girls inside heard it.

I tried shutting him up with sign language but he didn't understand. I just slapped my forehead since I can't do anything now. AC already opened the door behind me.

"Oh hello. Are you going to go inside?" She wore a facade again, didn't she? She really is a scary person.

"Yep." Kanae covered for me, stepping in front of me with a wide bright fake smile. "It's hot here. I believe that the air conditioner is already turned on?" Kanae imitates AC's style of speech, partially for mockery.

"Yes." AC replied.

I can sense lightning coming from their eyes to see who's more of a faker. Even though Zan and I reconciled indirectly, I would still say that he is the real faker. He went to Bad Comedian to Faker real fast, didn't he?

"But you are all sweaty. I believe that going to a room with the air conditioner on while being sweaty is bad for your health. The girl can come inside, not you. Stay outside please."

Taking this opportunity, I leaned on his back, burying my head on his blazer, and whispered something that only he can hear.

"Go to the second floor, pass by the hall. There's an intersection there so go to the right and then climb up the stairs that you will see once you reached the dead end, then go to the far right. You will see an unfinished window there. Climb down there without being suspicious and go look for Adam Smith. Once you see him, bring him to me."

He turned his head to my direction. "You know, I don't take orders from you." He complained. "But I guess I'll consider it this time."

"Thank you, Kanae." I stepped back from his blazer. "I might have solved this case with your help."

"What do you mean?"

"AC and Lana's case."

He didn't ask me further. It will look suspicious for AC. He went to the railings and waited for me to go inside first before he do the job that I ask him to.

I understood it and went inside, planning to distract them first.

"Lana? Are you crying?" I asked in shock.

"N-no. I was just--"

"She was just sweating through her eyes. It's a bad case." AC butted in.

"I see. I hope you get well soon." I said with a worried smile. Of course, everything I do, starting from when I entered the classroom, is completely fake.

"Since we're new, can you tour us here in this school?" Damn, did AC hear our conversation? I doubt it. I don't sense any malice in her smile right now.

"Ok."

"Let's start in the 2nd floor!" She excitedly invited.

"That's a bad idea." I started. This acting thing is so fun. "If we start in the 2nd floor, where should we go next? You will climb up and down the stairs and tire yourself." I reasoned.

"She's right, AC. I think it's better if we start here, in the 3rd floor." Lana commented.

By the time we're finished in the 3rd floor, Kanae is already by the other building that's connected in this school. And the pathway to that is...near the stairway that we're going to exit once the tour is done!

AC's lips curled to a wide smirk. I guess we're thinking the same thing. "Ok then. Let's start this tour." She said.

I nodded and started by our classroom, then walk to the next classroom. Then the next. The classrooms are wide so 5 fit in one floor. After the 5th classroom, we descend the stairs. AC seems excited to go to the pathway leading to the other building.

"After this classroom and those bathrooms nearby, we can go there." I tried calming her down.

"But I want to go there now!" AC broke her previous mask and demanded.

I guess it's my turn to break my mask too. "Look, if you wanted to go there so badly, you could've without trying to set up a tour to mask it."

AC's eyes sparkled in excitement and was about to run to that pathway but I grabbed her collar to pull her away.

"But since you're on a tour that you set up yourself, you should stay until the end."

She shuddered in that thought. She didn't know that her plan will backfire. If she's really working with Adam, she should've known that she cannot outsmart a demon like me. How about listening quietly like what Lana is doing?

After boring hours of the tour, with me telling it in my perspective, we were about to go to the pathway. I hope Kanae had already jumped down. Before we could enter the door, I saw a huge shadow covering most of the light. It made us all stop and turn.

"You owe me for this, Missy." Kanae emerged from Adam's back and presented himself, with a refreshing look like Adam wasn't that far.

"What do I owe you this time?" I heaved a heavy sigh.

Kanae slowly approached me. The other girls backed away while I stay in my place, looking at him blankly. He leaned down and whispered at my ear. "A date."

I shuddered and backed away for 3 steps, until I reached a dead end wall.

"But if you don't want to--" in the split second before he started his sentence, I saw a wide smirk that reached from ear to ear. Now, it was like a sly one.

"I...want..." I meekly responded. "You'll treat me, right?" I asked, raising my head and tilting my head to the side, with the same wide smirk I saw earlier.

"Hmph." He snickered. "Whatever."

"And what business do you have with me?" Adam asked.

I cleared my throat first before I start to speak to act civilized. Even if I wanted to so badly, I couldn't break my foster family's name. It was given to me by Cervi and I don't want to waste it.

"You know these girls, don't you?" I pointed at the girls with my thumb.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

Immediately, without wasting any second to let him turn around and leave, I made another hallucination that only the two of us can see. A snake slithered between his legs before he takes a step and hissed in front of his face. He turned to face me again, with a face full of terror. Everyone except the two of us are puzzled by what they just witnessed.

"You know these girls. Don't you?" I asked again, putting up a threatening look, creating two other beasts-- one is an amalgamation of several cats. It was not interesting to see. It's not like the usual human interest of cats. Instead, it's several cat body parts that are glued together to form a huge cat body. And the other is a hybrid of a wolf and a fox, the head of a wolf and the tail of a fox.

I can sense him gulping his soul back inside his body. His face is getting paler each second that he doesn't reply.

"Y-yes." He finally answered, trying hard not to pay attention to the hallucinations I created. The two are staying behind me while the snake is behind him to guard him if he tries to escape.

"What's your relation with them?" I continued to ask, interviewing him. I called him here just to pry informations though. And I don't need to mind the two girls. They are with Kanae...who is attempting to watch them like a hawk without looking for a fight or trouble, for the least.

"They're my slaves." He answered quickly, albeit monotonously.

"Tell me the story." I demanded, the amalgamation stepped close, taking merely a step. Adam didn't dare to look back or step back since he knows about the snake behind him.

"I saw them by the street and decided to put their intelligence to good use." He briefly answered. In his tone, it's obvious that he was trying to call out for help for his life.

"Hmm... So you're smart?" I faced them. As soon as our eyes met, they shuddered, and turned away, nodding nonetheless. "Ok then. I'll spare you guys for now. You may attend this school peacefully. Around this time, I think people start coming?" Kanae approached me and grabbed me by the waist. "Good luck with your first day, young ladies." I bid them goodbye.

Afterwards, I climbed up Kanae's back. He carries me piggy-back style and ran to the classroom. As soon as we reached it, the people there started making a mess. People wouldn't give them space.

In the teacher's description, the two new students in Class A School are two beautiful and intelligent girls, that are distant cousins and childhood friends. Complications around the families, that is. They're also civilized, calm and composed. They exactly fit the description, don't they?

"Kanae." I called out.

"Yeah?" He responded.

"Those other 3 are not affected, are they?"

"I'm not sure though..." He trailed off.

"What do you mean you're not sure?!" I shouted in shock. I honestly thought he was going to agree!

"Earlier, before you said that if those two girls tempt me, I think I was hypnotised by them already. If you didn't remind me, I think I could've been in their control so easily!" He panicked. "They have this kind of aura that lets you draw your whole attention to them and you couldn't get out of it unless someone who has more importance to you reminds you not to." He held my shoulder in panic.

"Calm down, you jittery peasant." I gently put away his hands from my shoulder and sighed to release some stress. I really hope he could at least keep his calm cool.

"I'm not a peasant!" He protested.

"So you're going to treat me without me owing you, right?" I chuckled. "But that's not the point." I cleared my throat to change my mask. I've been doing this several times now so I think this may be my trademark. Haha, just kidding. "The point is: they attract unwanted attention and I really thought that those 3 wouldn't get affected since they mostly don't care. But if you got hypnotised by them, I wouldn't doubt anymore." I calmly told him.

Kanae slid down the door and bent his right knee. He rested his arm on it while his head is facing upwards. "You know," he started. "I was initially going to make you my familiar so I will be the strongest person there is, with a demon by my side." I feel a flashback coming. "But I have a hidden reason. That reason was because you're important to me and so that I will get closer to you."

"What are you trying to convey?" I asked with one brow raised.

He looked at me dreamily. His gold eyes reflecting me, like I'm the only one he's focusing on right now. While he does so, he's looking at me with another genuine smile, a dreamily-looking genuine smile. This is actually a good view, I may admit. But I don't want to. Haha.

Then suddenly, he bursted out, laughing loudly. I don't know how to react so I just stared at him with a hint of annoyance. He pats my head and warmly runs his fingers on my hair.

"Unlike that Comedian, I am more subtle. If you don't get it, I won't tell it to you straightforwardly." His warm melodious voice passing through my ears. It didn't echo in the whole classroom, even though we are the only ones inside.

I giggled. I don't know why. My body moved on its own as it began to speak, "if I ever get too close to them, can you remind me not to be sucked in their aura?" I said that, laughing. And I don't think I'm in control of my body right now.

"Haha. Of course."

"But first, we need to get those three out of their aura." I said, standing up. As I was about to open the door, the knob rattled, startling me. Then, they entered, still going on about the two new students.

I couldn't get the chance to even search for those 3 when I'm being squished in this crowd!

"Excuse me, excuse--" knowing that they don't hear me, I scattered them all with a strong gush of wind, making it look like it came from outside, and that I, too, was affected.

"What was that?" Ned asked, fixing his ridiculously large glasses.

"A tornado?" The girl version of Ned, Dianne, said, also fixing her ridiculously large glasses.

The two looked at each other then blushed. Like what the hell, man? I will never understand romance.

I sat up, looking like it was hard to sit just like that. While doing that, Kanae is already walking towards me with no sweat. I'm not mistaken here. He really is a superhuman, isn't he?

"Good job, Missy. Now we can search for those three faster." He said, offering his hand to me.

I didn't understand the gesture and just stand up with my own strength and walked around to look for them.

The first one I saw is Cervi. He was lying down on his side, with eyes still covered. I think his consciousness is going to go back soon so I kneeled next to him. Waiting for a while. When it seems like I was waiting for hours, but it has only been 5 minutes, I clenched my teeth and shook him up. He slowly opened his eyes and whispered something. I didn't understand what it was and I didn't hear it either. He just suddenly slumped himself to me, I don't know if it was purposely or accidentally.

"I'm dizzy, Celeste..." He whispered.

"Please don't puke."

Cervi covered his mouth. I instinctually panicked and pulled him away from me just so I wouldn't be dirtied, but I have just been fooled. While away from me, taking this opportunity, he smiled, slowly withdrawing his hand, then pecked a kiss on my cheek before he slumped back to me again.

"Uh... Cervi?" I asked, confused as to what just happened.

"I'm at my limits." He said. I felt his body getting heavier each minute.

I hopelessly sighed and pat his back twice. I laid him down again gently, and called for Kanae to go pick him up. He obliged immediately.

The next one I saw is Joan. I shook her up too, just like what I did with Cervi. She woke up and slowly opened her eyes.

She looked at me from head to toe. "Your usual boots doesn't match with your uniform." She judged before she passes out again.

There wasn't even 2 minutes afterwards but she already jolted up and walked around like nothing happened. I know Joan is a bad actress so she was genuinely dizzy that time and was taken away by that wind too, but since she's an angel, she was able to regain her strength in no time.

And because of irritation, I wore my black shoes that I have been carrying around for some time and I put my boots in a separate black hole.

And of course, the last one is Zan. He wasn't lying down like those two. He was sitting down on a wall like what Kanae did earlier. He's bending his knee and rested his arm on it while his head is facing upwards. He's still closing his eyes though. That's where I know that he's still unconscious. His breathing pattern is irregular too. I don't know if he's being relaxed or in panic. Not knowing what to do, I stayed beside him until Kanae went to get him.

"Why didn't you call me sooner?" He complained.

"There's something wrong with him but I can't put my finger on it." I replied calmly.

"Well, we'll figure that out soon. I'll just carry him outside before those two ladies regain their aura."

I nodded in agreement, following them.

Once we were all outside, I stared at the bright sky, the sun slightly burning my eyes. Even thought it hurts, I'm smiling like an idiot.

"What's wrong?" Kanae asked.

"Oh, no reason." I chuckled. "I was only thinking of a reason to enslave Adam." I wanted to add. But for some reason, I didn't.
