A Switcheroo
-Raven POV-
I looked deep into the green man's eyes. Beast Boy, he called himself. I tried to read his emotions but found myself unable to do so. But you can tell a lot from simply looking in someone's eyes. Even without reading their mind.
I saw he was very furtive years worth of pain. A leader who fears failure. But behind all that, a sense of longing.
“Now,” he interrupted my thoughts. “I answered your questions, so you answer mine. What are you doing here?”
I snapped out of my trance and spoke, “I came to free my friends. You put them in a cell with no real reason.”
Beast Boy raised an eyebrow, “Filmage without consent, trespassing, breaking and entering, spying, and bringing weapons onto private property. And these are only the things we can say for sure as of now. There could be more charges in the future if they weren't doing as you claim. I suspected that they'll be here for quite some time.”
I had to think fast. This King obviously didn't know that we were the Teen Titans who helped fight crime across the kingdom. I knew for a fact I wouldn't be able to do it all on my own, but mabie the three of them could. And being in a castle that no one knew about would be useful if my father decided to try and open his portal.
“Take me instead.”
The King froze from shock while Robin said, “Raven, don't do this!”
“What did you say?” The king asked trying to process what I said.
“I'll take their place.” I told him. “They have people to go back for and things to take care of. I'll stay for all the charges held against them.”
Starfire pushed against the door of the cell, “Friend Raven! Do not take our punishment. You have done nothing wrong!”
But the king seemed skeptical. “It could work. But they all have quite a few charges against them. With all of that time done by one person, you might be here the rest of your life.”
“That's fine with me.” I said ignoring my friends pleas for me not to do it.
But my friends' voices weren't deaf to the Kings ears. As he looked extremely torn between the two options. He looked at my friends then back to me. “Are you sure this is what you want?”
I nodded. “They go free, I pay the debt. Deal?” I held out my hand.
The King took it. “Deal.” And we shook on it. “We can look at the legal stuff and swearing all of you to secrecy about me later. For now,” he put a hand on a square by the cell scanning his fingerprints, causing the thick glass to open. “I'll let you all have some alone time.”
He motioned for me to go in to which I obliged. He closed the door behind me and my friends rushed to my side. “What are you thinking!?” Robin demanded. “Staying here for us doing something you told us not to do. Are you out of your mind?”
“Calm down Robin. I know what I'm doing. I won't be able to defend the city from crime by myself for the amount of time you'll be here while I know you can do it just fine without me. It won't be as quick but you can still pull it off. Also, I don't think that Starfire will be able to stand even a week in jail.”
“She is not the wrong.” Starfire said blushing. “The very idea of confinement for long periods of time I find to be the most terrible.”
“But, we might never see you again.” Cyborg said his human eye tearing slightly.
I just smiled. “Then let's make these last moments count.”
“Raven no. I can't allow you to do this!” Robin said his inner leader coming out.
“It's my choice Robin. I know you'll do a better job at defending this city than I ever could alone.”
