'YES!'

Scar backed away from where Bdubs items rained down... Cleo was going to go to him now. He was back to being trapped in Cub's base, chased by a lunatic.

'I've been waiting for this moment TOO LONG.' Cleo grinned. Scar continued to back away into the utility area, hoping he could escape Cleo if she came... She looked over, stepping closer. Scar gripped a totem.

'You've got Bdubs. You've got what you wanted...'

'I know. But Ren won't let me come back unless I kill another. A sacrifice. An apology.'

'Please don't kill me! I- I have a lot to live for!' Cleo continued to approach, Scar backing further away, into the corner. 'Come on, Mom! You can't turn on your own flesh and blood like this!'

'Oh, but I can. Besides. You're adopted anyway.'

And then Scar's hand reached a map on the wall. And he managed to shift it.

He looked over, frowning, and shifted the map again. Sure enough, there was something behind it.

A secret exit.

'Well... This has all be wonderful... Give my apologies to Bdubs and... Goodbye!'

Scar dove into the exit, standing and racing along the tunnel, around a corner... Trapdoors above, a button to open them and Scar was swimming up through Keralis's pool to freedom.

In a moment of genius, he covered the hole with dirt, and flew off as far from Cleo as he could.

It had been 2 remarkably deathless weeks since Bdubs's death. The living (excluding those allied with Ren) had met to discuss the situation, agreeing it was too late to stop it. Besides, with Grian and Xisuma both on Ren's side, their best hope of finding a solution had plummeted. All they had to do was get the end, get everyone back to normal, and move on.

Scar crossed the server, taking the decently short journey from Scarland to the shopping district, slightly confused by Cub's message. What did they need a plan about? Ren? Demise? Something completely different?

He shot towards the water, then up into Cub's base, surfacing and landing next to his friend.

'What's the plan?'

'Scar, just hear me out about this.'

And then he knew,

'I'm not killing you, Cub.' Scar crossed his arms,

'I said hear me out!'

'You need to survive, Cub. You know how badly they'll affect you... We both know what happened last time. I'm not letting it happen again.'

'Scar, seriously... Ren's targeting me, you need immunity, I'm not going to win. So I'm going out on my own terms, but only if I fail.'

'Fail what?'

Cub smiled.

'You know how Etho died?'

'No way. I'm not doing that.'

'You push me off the tower, and I MLG it. If I die, you get immunity for killing me. But, we make Ren promise that if I land it, we both get immunity.'

Scar was silent for a moment, staring at his feet before starting to pace.

'So... Either way, I end up with immunity?'

'If Ren accepts.'

'Oh, of course... And whatever happens you end up working for Ren.'

'Immunity doesn't mean we join him. It just means he can't kill us. And that we get to listen in on his meetings.' Cub insisted. Scar sighed.

'This could go wrong very easily.'

'Either way, you get immunity.'

'What about you, Cub?'

'What about me? I'm not going to win!'

'Stop talking like that!'

Cub didn't reply. And Scar realised something else.

'You want to die, don't you?'

Again, no reply.

'Cub...'

'Do you realise how exhausting it is to be avoiding traps all the time?!' Burst out Cub, starting to pace. 'I want to do something!'

'Of course I know! I've been in the life series!' Scar grabbed Cub's shoulder, forcing his friend to face him. 'And it's never worth it!' The constant fights and terror and everything is never worth it, Cub. Don't. Do. This.' Tears burnt in Scar's eyes. Cub stared for a moment, fighting his own emotions... one hand rose to the vex magic jewel of the matching necklace to Scar's, unable to keep eye contact, focussing on the floor.

Scar hugged him. Cub hugged back as a few seconds passed...

'I'm sorry Scar... I need to do this.'

Scar hit the ground as Cub pushed him away and ran. A yell escaped his mouth, scrambling to his feet, following... and then Cub was gone down some secret exit. Scar leapt down, into the water, fireworks shooting him up, into the air...

There. He flew after Cub, furiously blinking away tears, crossing spawn, into the shopping district, towards the New Year's firework pillar... Cub landed suddenly and-

Scar barrelled into him. Cub let out a yell, stumbling... slipping...

And fell. 

'CUB!' Scar dove after, looking into his friend's eyes, knowing.

Cub wasn't going to safe himself.

Cub was just going to

fall

until he hit the ground.

'CUB FLY!'

'I'm sorry, Scar.'
