Chp 10: Screams at night

Hermione's POV:

There was utter silence for a moment, but it was shattered by the screams of 'FRED!' That ran through the hall. Me, Harry, Ron and Ginny leapt up and ran to the ghost. Harry and Ron tried to hug him, Ginny tried to hex him using the bat boggy hex, but they just past right through Fred. Harry and Ron came back looking sheepish and kind of cold, but the bat boggy hex hit Malfoy square in the face. We all laughed as he was rushed to the infirmary, muttering something that sounded suspiciously like "Just wait till my father hears about this!"

I, however, stopped just before reaching Fred, remembering that whatever I did will just pass through him. I thought back to just before the Americans sorting, and had a crazy idea.

"Nico? Can you come up here please?" I called out.

He looked up, confused, and came up with a small shrug. "Yeah?" He asked. "Going by how the ghosts acted around you, can you physically touch a ghost?" I asked. He nodded slowly, probably wandering where I was going with this.
"Good. Slap him!" I said, pointing to Fred.

Fred looked horrified, but Nico just shrugged again and slapped him in the face.

"SLAP!"

The sound rang through the hall. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Nico sitting down, and then Annabeth and Will both started hissing at him, while he just shrugged.
Ignoring this, I carried on with my idea.

"FREDRICK SEPTIMUS WEASLEY! (Made up name) WHERE IN MERLINS BEARD HAVE YOU BEEN THE PAST SIX MONTHS? GEORGE HAS BEEN CRYING ALMOST NONE STOP, HE WONT EVEN LOOK IN THE MIRROR ANYMORE BECAUSE HE THINKS ITS YOU LOOKING BACK AT HIM! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA  HOW DEPRESSED WE HAVE ALL BEEN? NOT ONE WORD, NOT ONE OWL! I UNDERSTAND YOU CANT WRITE YOURSELF, BUT YOU COULD HAVE ASKED SOMEONE TO DO IT FOR YOU! AND...!"

I was cut off by Ron putting his hand around my mouth and restraining me, with the help of Harry. I calmed down relatively quickly and stormed back to my seat while Ginny carried on my rant. I was both happy, yet slightly guilty, to see how sad he looked.

In the end he came to our table as we where eating the feast to say sorry, and we had a better reunion then.

Franks POV:

After the, ahh, eventful sorting, we had a great feast. The food was almost as good as the stuff at the camps! However, just before we started eating, there was a rumble of thunder in the distance, and Rachel remembered we had to sacrifice some food to the gods. Leo promptly spat out the piece of burger he had in his mouth. Laughing, we all burned a bit of our food into his hands, which he very graciously set fire to for us. We thought we were discreet, but then the girl with the bushy hair, Hermione, asked us what we were doing. We all looked to Annabeth, stumped. She sighed.
"It's part of our religion." She said. Short, simple, and partially true. Nice. Apparently it was enough to please our fellow Gryffindor, and she turned back to her food.

After the feast, professor Mcgonagall stood up and cleared her through. The chatter in the hall died out and all of the food disappeared. In a clipped, precise tone, she addressed the hall.

"Prefects, please lead your houses to their common rooms. The layout of the castle has slightly changed." many students groaned at this. A second year near me whispered to her friend : "As if it wasn't hard enough already." Her friend nodded. The professor ignored all of the mumbling carried on, but in a slightly louder voice. "due to recent events, your heads of house will accompany you on the new routs. I will be joining Gryffindor as their head of house hasn't yet mastered the art of going anywhere without passing through the walls, therefore does not know the way for his solid counterparts." She got a few laughs from this. "That is all. Goodnight."

There was the sound of scraping as the hundreds of students stood up, dragging the benches across the stone floor. We stood up with Harry and his friends and followed Fred and professor  McGonagall up the grand staircase to the Gryffindor common rooms.

"Oh look, Margret, there some new faces this year! Big ones to!" I jumped and looked to the left of me where the voice had come from. There was nothing but a wall and a picture of two old lady's having tea with the English flag behind them. How British. Suddenly, the picture moved! Lefty put here cup down and scrutinised me: "hmmm... they seem very fuzzy, jumpy as well." The other one sighed. "Your glasses, Catherine." The old lady on the left started looking around frantically. "There on your head, Catherine." "Oh thank you dear, this reminds me of the time when..." I left the two old lady's chatting. Talking pictures. Not the weirdest thing I've seen.

I looked over at Percy and Annabeth. Annabeth was saying something about the architecture while Percy was just staring at her with a glazed look in his eyes. I reached out and grabbed Hazel's hand and she smiled at me. She has a beautiful smile. I am so lucky to have her.

Suddenly we reached a dead end with a large painting of a slightly obtuse woman with a pink dress. There was another woman standing next to her. "See, I told you there where a some transfers! I told you!" "Yes, yes Violet, you seem to be right." The fat lady looked over at us. "Password?"

Professor McGonagall stepped up and said "Athena's Trident" I snorted, along with the rest of the demigods. People looked at us weirdly, but we ignored them.

When we stepped through the portrait hole, the first thing I thought was that the Stolls had set up and exploded a red and gold colour bomb in the room. Almost everything was those two colours, and there was a roaring fire in the corner. I didn't feel to comfortable with this, with the stick lifeline and all, and I could tell Percy was a bit uncomfortable with the lack of blue, but Leo was in his element.

"I could get used to this!" Leo said, rubbing his hands and sitting in one of the massive red armchairs near the fireplace. Maybe for bunker nine..." he went of in thought.

"Ok, girls to the..." the professor began before Fred cut in. "Ooh, can I say this? I've always wanted to, and I've been practising!" Professor McGonagall sighed and gave a nod of consent. The ghost looked exited for a moment before composing himself and made a big show of clearing his voice. "Alright, boys to the left, girls to the right, up the stairs and your name will be on your dorms. You will find your trunks at the end of your bed. Of you go." His voice was a perfect imitation of the teacher. She gave him a small glare before turning to us and telling us to go to bed.

Suddenly I remembered something. Percy and Annabeth had to sleep together! Percy seemed to have come to the same conclusion as I had because he said, "uh, Professor, me and Annabeth kind of have to, um, sleeptogetherorneareachothersincewegetbadnightmares."
"Will you repeat that please mr Jackson?" Said the professor.

Percy took a deep breath and was about to repeat himself before Annabeth cut across him. "What he means is that me and Percy have to be within touching distance with each other while we sleep as we get really bad nightmares from somewhere we've been. Nico's been there to, but he's got someone already..." my eyes flicked to his and Wills clasped hands.

"ABSOLUTELY NOT!" The strict voice broke me out of my thoughts. "The boys and girls dorms have been separated since the first brick was laid. You shall not break his rule because of some teenaged love!" "But..." "NO BUTS! GO, NOW!" There was a mixed reaction between the students, some looked confused, some looked angry and some just looked amused. The demigods were mainly angry. Clarisse was the angriest.

"ITS YOUR FAULT IF NONE OF THE STUDENTS WORK WELL IN SCHOOL BECAUSE THEY CANT SLEEP BECAUSE OF THE SCREAMS!" She shouted, and stormed of up the stairs. Several people looked shocked at what she did, but we were used to it. I don't see how I am related to her, she scares me. We all walked upstairs leaving a bemused ghost, a fuming teacher and a scared/sad Percabeth behind.

Harry's POV:

Nightmares? Stupid Americans. Like that excuse would work on McGonagall, she has seen all the excuses and can't be fooled. And to think that I liked them at first!

I changed into my Pj's and went to sleep as soon as my head touched the pillow.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~This time skip knows your name...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
I was woken up by the sound of screams coming from above me. I jumped out of bed with the rest of my dorm, grabbed my wand and ran up the spiral staircase. The sound seamed to be coming from the transfer students dorm. I threw open the door, wand at the ready, and found Percy screaming and thrashing around in his sweat soaked sheets. His eyes were open and glazed over, his body was convulsing in unnatural ways. One of the blond boys, Will, was standing over him trying to calm him down. He screamed again and I realised that it had words to it.
'ANNABETH! NO! LEAVE HER ALONE! ANNABETH!"
Suddenly, the girls in question came running through the doors and strait to Percy.
"Percy. PERCY! Listen to me! We're not there! We got out! I'm here! PERCY!" She started shaking him, but the moment she touched him he shot up with a gasp, awake. The first thing he did was pull Annabeth into his arms, both of them sobbing and breathing heavily. They seemed to draw comfort from each other.
Guess they weren't lying about the nightmares.
The rest of the transfers glared at me and pushed me out of the door into the growing crowd of confused and scared students. Professor McGonagall was pushing her way through the crowd shouting.
"What's happening! Move out the way! I said wha... DERYK I AM A TEACHER, SO MOVE... what's happening here?"
Suddenly the Cherokee girl, Piper, was at the door. In a cold voice she glared at the professor and said one word: "nightmares", then she slammed the door in our face.
I swear McGonagall flinched. But wether it was from shock, anger, or fear, I couldn't tell. What I did know was that a few seconds later, she was banging on the door, demanding to be let in.
Suddenly the door opened and one of the girls, I think it was Clarisse, stopped the professors knuckles from rapping on her face. Then all of the girls, minus Annabeth, walked out and began making their way to their dorms. The piper girl looked back at us and said "Go to bed then go to sleep." Her voice had some sort of layered quality to it, and I had the compulsion to do exactly like she said. So did the others.
That was the last thing I remember until I woke up the next morning. When I did wake up the next morning was : thank god it's a Saturday, Hermione would have been pissed if she had been woken up on a school night.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Time skip to the evening~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hermione' POV:

DAMN THOSE AMERICANS!

I mean, waking me up in the middle of the night! I hope this doesn't carry on through the school year because I don't think I could study in those conditions! Percy does have a good set of lungs though, apparently Luna heard him in the Ravenclaw tower!

I got into bed and lay awake. I just couldn't sleep. It was 12:07 so I got up to get some water, maybe that would help.

And then the screams started.

I grabbed my wand and ran down the stairs while the rest of my dorm mates where waking up. I sent a quick message to professor McGonagall and carried on to the bottom floor of dorms. The Americans dorm. I peaked in and saw the smart one, Annabeth, thrashing on her bed, her sweat soaked sheets entrapping her legs. Her eyes where wide open, but glazed over with sleep, pain and tears. More tears slid down her face as she she screamed again.

The other girls where standing around her, talking in a language I didn't understand. It sounded like Latin, but it wasn't? I'm confused.

"PERCY! PERCY, WHERE ARE YOU? WHY DID YOU LEAVE ME!? YOU PROMISED! PERCY!"

The girl screamed again, a wordless cry of sorrow. Then something ran past me so fast it was a flash. It was Percy. How did he get in the girls dorms?!? Boys can't get in!

"Why are you here? Scrap that, HOW are you here! You're not aloud on the girls dorms!"

The Americans heads snapped up as they realised I was there. Several of them reached for their pockets, for their wands, presumably. Except for Percy. He was to busy comforting Annabeth, who had just woken up.

One of the girls spoke up. The regal looking one, Reyna, I think.

"I suppose you heard the screams? Well, those are because of their nightmares. He's here to calm down Annabeth. He's the only one who can. Secondly, he came up the stairs and through the door behind you, which I will be showing you to know. Goodbye Hermione, see you at breakfast." And with that, she closed the door on my, McGonagalls and the whole of the Gryffindor girl populations faces.

There's something up with these Americans, and I'm going to find out what it is, if it's the last thing I do!

Percy's POV:

I didn't dare to go to sleep. The nightmares would haunt me again. And I had to be there for my Wise Girl if she had a bad night.

Suddenly I heard her screams and ran out of bed as fast as I could, down to the common room. As I ran up the stairs, I think they turned into a slide, but I ignored that and ran straight up it anyway, using the hand rail to pull me up.

I flew into their room, right past a random witch who was there, and strait to Annabeth. I could hear the others talking behind me in Olympic - the new language the demigods had made up, including both Latin and Ancient Greek so the two bodies of demigods could talk together - but I ignored them. I began to whisper to Annabeth, trying to calm her down.

"Annabeth! Wise Girl! I'm right here, right next to you! It's ok, we're out, we're together! Remember? Together for ever. Your not getting away from me ever again, Wise Girl. You just have to be stuck with me for the rest of your life!"

"Percy!" Annabeth whispered as her eyes cleared, and she hugged me. "I was... you had..." "Sssshhhhhh" I whispered to her as my tee shirt began to dampen with her tears. My own tears flowed, unchecked, in her wonderful gold hair. "I know. Gods I know."

We fell asleep like that, hugging each other, calming each other down just by being there.

"I love you Seaweed Brain." Was the last thing I heard before I let Morpheus consume me in a dreamless sleep.

The next morning there was a new door in the common room leading to me and my Wise Girls private room. No one, not even the teachers, knew how it got there. I suppose the castle had gotten tired of not having any sleep as well. But who can say?

Anything is possible with magic.
