Chapter Five

Nico di Angelo

The morning was hectic, we were running around, shoving others around and throwing books into suitcases, grabbing some fruit and then immediately being told to apparate to the train station. Which was really far away. And we didn't know how to apparate, so I had to shadow travel us. This was gonna suck for me.

They left two by two, telling us to follow them. Once they were gone, we decided to try to follow. Bad idea on my part. "Okay, everyone get into a circle and hold hands." I sounded like a child hating kindergarden teacher ordering around toddlers. Which was actually half accurate.

"Nico, you sure you can handle this big a group going that far? Maybe Hazel can help," Leo said.

"Hazel's still in practice, if we had her help the group would get divided and half if us would either be stuck in the shadows' world or end up gods knows where, no offense sis," I cut in. "Now stop acting like Will."

"Fine, Death Boy," He fake pouted, "shootin' me down when I try to help like that."

Everyone was linked, I took at deep breath and exhaled softly. Slowly, I stepped back into the shadows, bringing the group with me. Next thing I know, I'm stumbling back onto Jason and Ms. Weasly is rushing over to check if I'm okay.

"Sorry, he's new to the Apparation thing and it makes him a little sick." Annabeth supplied quickly.

"I should have listened to Will . . . " I muttered.

"Oh dear. Uh, sweetie, who's Will?"

"Mah boifwend," I threw out right when Annabeth said he was my doctor while Jason helped me steady myself.

Wow, hahahah, the world won't stop spinning. Fuuuun! Someone help me.

I'm pretty sure I missed something. I heard Mrs. Weasly telling us to run straight into the wall between Platforms Nine and Ten and we'd end up in Platform Nine-and-three-quarters. I thought she was crazy, until Piper and Hazel nodded and went running at the wall. They disappeared into the wall. Piper came back out and told us to follow, and sure enough, we ended up on Platform Nine-and-three-quaters.

Annabeth and Percy led our group onto the train by following Ron, helping my ready-to-pass-out-on-the-floor figure stumble about. Leo started joking about random things somehow related to me being 'sick' or the train to brighten the tense mood. The puns were terrible, but funny. I nearly threw up when I laughed, cutting myself off and doubling over overtop of Percy's arm before I did.

We split off into two groups; Annabeth, Percy, Harry, Ron, Hermoine, Ginny, and I in one, and Jason, Leo, Hazel, Frank, Piper, and Thalia in another. They got a cabin closer to the back whereas we had to wander further down the train to get an empty cabin.

Thw wizards all shared a bench, chattering about something called Quill Ditch or something and the 'new classes.' Percabeth settled into the corner on our bench together after setting me down on the few seats beside them. I closed my eyes and leaned my head back, trying to fall asleep.

And I guess I did. The next thing I know, I'm sitting up and the train had shuddered to a stop. An aura that radiated death crawled up my spine, I shivered, pulling my knees up closer to me. I nervously twirled my skull ring around on my finger. I whispered, "Something's on the train. I don't think it's the usual monster."

I leaned my head back against the wall, clutching my ring tightly in my hand. Frost crept up the windows, heat draining from the room, but I was still warm. The light of the cabins flickered out, and there was a mad jumble of muttering before everything fell to silence.

Harry and Hermoine's wands lit up as I slowly stood. I looked to Pair Percabeth and motioned to Harry before glancing at my ring and then to the frosting over door. They nodded in understanding and began to whisper nonsense to them.

Sliding the door open then closed behind me, I glanced down the train car that looked lit up as daytime to me. A floating, hodded figure was slowly gliding towards me from the other side of the train.

I took a few steps back, then it slowly began to move faster. I shadow travel to the end of the train, turning my ring to it's sword form. It kept approaching and I swung at it, only to have my sword faze harmlessly through the creature. Shadow travelling around it and away then closer, I continuously slashed at it until I was out of energy to keep moving. It cornered me, knocking my sword out of my hand. It's skeletal hands reached for it's hood as I desperately reached for my sword, only managing to brush my fingertips against the hilt. I finally got a hold of the hilt just as it began to pull down it's hood. I quickly brought the blade up, stabbing through it's head. It let out a blood curdling screech before exploding into black dust, heat and light returning to the spinning room.

Jason burst out of a nearby cabin, followed closely by Thalia. "Nico are you okay?! What was that thing?" They helped me to my feet, but before I could respond, my world went dark.
