Warnings: Blood

~Vikk's P.O.V.~

"Stupid" Crunch "spiders!"

     The mangled spider makes one last attempt to lunge at me, but falls limp to the ground halfway, and disappears in a cloud of smoke. I pant heavily, clutching my sword so tight my knuckles turn white. I flinch as an arrow whips mere inches from my face, creating a loud thunk as it embeds itself into the tree behind me. Knowing in my current condition-which includes a broken arm, scratches and cuts, and exhaustion-I can't handle a skeleton, I turn and book it in the opposite direction, dashing blindly through the dark forest.

After being indirectly forced into the forest tonight, I've spent the last half an hour running for my life and fending off countless amounts of hostile mobs. Probably the worst of them all has been the spiders, which have been given endless opportunities to pounce down on me from their hiding spots in the trees. It's honestly the most frustrating thing in the world. You know the powers I supposedly get from my white gem would be great right about now. I grumble inwardly, swiftly dodging around a creeper and not daring to look back. It's hard enough trying to flee attacking mobs, and the darkness of the night really isn't helping. Heat pounding and muscles burning, I hesitate slightly to accomplish two things. One, to give my searing everything a moment to rest, if only for a moment. Two, to take a pitifully short glance at the sky through the trees, and see where the moon is. As it turns out, I don't get a chance to glimpse the moon, before an arrow is sailing uncomfortable close to my face, and I'm off once again.

      "Please let it be day soon..." I huff, grunting as a zombie lumbers out, and bumps into me.

      The sun won't do much to burn the mobs, since the trees will provide shade for them. But at the very least it'll cease their spawning and calm the gigantic hairy spiders to a neutral state. Speaking of which...

      A loud hiss cuts through the air, and an ugly spider pounces from a branch, legs stretched out and fangs dripping with a mixture of saliva and venom. I skid to a somewhat ungraceful stop, and raise my tattered iron sword up to intercept the arachnid. The force of the heavy mob landing on me sending me stumbling back a few paces, but the spider quickly recoils, spitting in anger and pain as a line of blood drips from its stomach. Disregarding its own injures, however, the stubborn spider lingers forward, red beady eyes gleaming in fury. I haul my sword up high above my head, and bring it down as the distance closes between me and the mob. The good news is that I kill it before it can reach me, and do any harm. The bad news... My sword just broke, leaves pieces of useless iron scattered across the ground, and a bare handle in my hands. Even more bad news, is that it's still night, and the forest it teeming with deadly mobs. Like the zombie shambling up to me at this very moment.

      Sides heaving in exhaustion and pain, I take a few hesitant steps back, feeling a wave of terrified nausea flood my brain at the sight of the mangled undead beast. There doesn't seem to be any other mobs nearby, but I guess it doesn't really make a difference. Maybe I should just let it kill me. I contemplate, letting the empty wooden handle of my sword drop. I can always respawn...

     "No Vikk." I cut myself off, straightening. "Sure you can respawn, but if something happens to your gem during that time, the world will be destroyed."

       That's the thing about respawning. No one really can die unless their gem is broken. And the process of respawning can take anywhere from a day to a week, depending on how bad your injury was when you were killed. And even though no other gems can truly kill a white gem, and crush the gem, but another white gem or a black gem, I'm not one hundred percent certain how that applies to mobs and other natural occurrences. And if anything were to happen to my gem, and I truly died, I'd be dealing this worlds doom. So taking a deep breath, I raise my fists, and square up to my opponent.

      The zombie gurgles and bends forward, rotting hands flying out and teeth gnashing. I quickly step forward, putting my weight behind my punch, to send the zombie stumbling back. It groans in frustration, glaring at me with those disturbing hollow eyes. It lurches forward, starting at me again. And again, I send a fist to its chest, and force it to move back. And again. And again. And after a few minutes of this tedious process, it seems I'm finally going to beat it. That is however, until the skinny figure of a skeleton steps out from behind a tree, and an arrow is sailing directly towards me. I yelp in fear, ducking to the side. The arrow whizzes by, just grazing my cheek and leaving a thin trail of blood behind it. And just as I recover from that, the zombie moans in victory, sinking its yellow infectious teeth into my upper arm.

       A scream of pure agony rips form my throat, and I kick the mob back, sending it to the ground once and for all. Pain shots up my arm, spreading out and engulfing my entire body. That zombie bit hard, with every thing it had, and now blood is spilling from my arm at a sickening rate. The skeleton rattles its bones, drawing it's now to shoot another arrow. Tears clouding my eyes, and blood caking my body, I turn and force my already worn out legs to carry me away.

~~~
      The first rays of morning sneak through the trees, and I sit sobbing, basically left for dead. Gashes, bruises, and burns from explosions cover my body, sending waves of unimaginable pain through my body at a steady pace. Tears soak my cheeks, mixing with the blood and sweat, as I watch the looming figure of a creeper stalk up to me. I've accepted my fate, and am just going to have to chance leaving my gem unguarded while I respawn. After all, what's the point? There's nothing I can do. Sure I'm curious about those strange white lines that have joined to my gem a little while ago, with varying intensities, but it's not like I'll be able to get out of here anyhow. I'm trapped, with my back to a tall cliff, seconds away from being blown to smithereens.
       And you know, my hopes lift just for a moment, as an arrow pierces through the skull of the creeper, killing it instantly. But those are soon gone as two figures-one like a regular person, and one a lava creeper-step out of the bush. I instantly recognize them as the mutant and mage, even though I haven't seen them before. And so, succumbing to my exhaustion and pain, I collapse to the ground just barely conscious, and waiting for the two to recognize me as a villager from Oresville and kill me.
      As my world spirals into darkness, I remain completely oblivious to the white lines connecting our gems.
