Serve Thirteen

"Eh, that match was exhausting." You sigh, your empty bottle hanging loosely in your palm.

"You didn't even play." Satoru sighs as he sits next to you.

"I know, but I could feel everyone's emotions." You shrug.

"Really? I wasn't sensing anything."

"I pick up on these things easily." You pat his sweaty back. "You should go, I think Keishin has something to say." Satoru looks over to his team and see them beginning to huddle around. His jumps up and runs over to them.

"Receiving." Ukai starts as the group pay full attention to him. "We're nothing if we can't receive." He tells the team. You turn your back to them, and crouch down, beginning to pack away yours and Satoru's things. He'll return home in his sports kit, you knew that for certain. He'd also forgot to put it in the wash, so you'd have to remind him about that as well. Weren't you supposed to do something else today?

"(F/n)!" Ukai shouts, making you flinch at his sudden shout. You look over your shoulder to him and blink languidly. "Come here." He orders. You leave your things on the floor and slowly make your way over, holding your arm.

Oh god, everyone's staring. My hairs a mess and my lips are probably blue from my drink. Don't trip, walk straight, don't make eye contact. You'll be fine.

You take in a deep breath as you stop beside the coach. He places his hand on your shoulder as you face him, then he turns you to face the team and your eyes widen in surprise. They are all staring at you. What had you done? Did they want you out the gym as they practiced? Did they think you were a spy for Tooru? They hadn't mentioned it at all, but maybe they thought it. What if the team had secretly had enough of you and thought you were a distraction?

"Karasuno, meet your new Assistant Coach." Ukai pats your shoulder. You freeze. Everyone stares back at you with the same amount of bewilderment or shock.

"What?!" That was too loud, and your surprise is evident. Ukai chuckles, patting your shoulder.

"What? You're not in any club, right?"

"Well, no, but I—"

"And your family loves volleyball. Your mum knows me too. They won't have to worry about your safety or nothing!" He grins. You have nothing to say to that. You roll your shoulder, furrowing your brow. He is right. You look out to the team. They mostly look bewildered, but Daichi grins. You sigh, reluctant, before bowing.

"Please take care of me." You say, face slightly tinted pink.

This is so embarrassing!

The team bow back and repeat your words as you stand between Takeda and Ukai. You stare awkwardly down at the floor, your fingers intertwined.

"And don't forget to stretch." Ukai mentions and the team runs off. You stay in your spot, not moving an inch or making any sudden movements. Then Ukai looks down at you and chuckles. You grunt in response and scatter to your bag. You put said item over your shoulder and take out your phone, just wanting to do something with your hands.

I can't believe it, I'm the assistant coach. I can't be the assistant coach. I'm not cut out to be one. I'm sure there's thousands of people who can do a better job than me.

You panic, feeling your heart still hampering in your chest. This was why you never play in team anymore. Being on court was like being center stage and that was terrifying. On top of the loud sound of the ball smacking against body parts and the floor. You hated to be in the spot light, it's your brothers job. And yet there you were, standing in front of all the volleyball team and made a fool of yourself. Could they hear your breath? Perhaps your thundering heart beat? Were your shoes squeaking too loud and were your steps light enough? Oh, this is terrible. Then your body jerks at the sudden hand placed on your head. You look up to see Daichi with a bright smile.

"Glad to have you on our team." He beams.

"I—" you clear your throat awkwardly. "I look forward to working with you." You say with a timid smile. He chuckles once more with another head pat before walking away to the changing rooms.

"Sis!" Shouts Satoru as he runs over. He jumps and engulf you in a hug.

"Yeah?" You raise a brow to him. You say your shoulders. You feel so tired. Maybe it was the fast peddling to get home and back here.

"Now you'll be spending even more time with us! More and more and more!" He grins as he jumps around excitedly. You grin back, but inside you didn't feel the same.

"I'll look forward to working with you." Sugawara smiles as he walks over. You blink languidly at him with an embarrass blush.

"Me too." You nod.

"But I was wondering... Why did you say no when Daichi asked?" He tilts his head in question. You look down before your lip curls up.

"Well I..." because you couldn't say no? Ukai told you to. He ordered it, and in front of everyone. You weren't in a position to say no. "I wasn't given to option to reject." You admit in embarrassment.

"That sounds like you." He laughs. You blush.

"Do I really come across like that?" You ask shyly.

"It's not a bad thing." He smiles. You send him a closed eye smile and tilt your head, a small giggle escaping your lips.

"Stop before you blind us all!" Satoru pleads, placing his hands over his eyes.

"Yeah, your smiles have that effect on people." You tell Sugawara, giggling at his bewildered expression. He looks like he was going to say something before Daichi calls him over. With a quick goodbye, he leaves. Satoru furrows his brow as he looks up over.

"You can't honestly expect me to think you don't have feelings for him?" Satoru interrogates, folding his arms over his chest. You raise a brow at him and mirror his movements.

"What would make you think that? And also I'd a thought you would prefer me to date him out from the rest of the team?" You question.

"The ones with the innocent smile also have the weirdest kinks." He points. You laughs into your hand at this.

"So if I had to date someone in this room, who would it be?" You ask him. He stares at you, seemingly stuck in his situation.

"Er... Eh... Maybe.... Hieeeem, nope. But what if, no. Okay so... No........ Ennoshita?" He shrugs.

"I'll take that." You shrug, not really caring.

"Who would you ship me with?" He asks.

"No one, everyone already has a partner." You answer, no hesitation.

"Really? Whos Shouyo with?"

"Kageyama."

"But they hate each other? Kageyama is always picking on Shoyo."

"KageHina for the win."

"What's KageHina?" An innocent voice asks from behind you.

"Nothing, Hinata!" You squeak. He stares at you with a puzzled expression. He'd never seen your face this red. It's really cute.

"KageHina is your couples name with Kageyama." Satoru grins. You splutter, scoffing at Satoru in disbelief. Hinata turns bright red and stutters out words you couldn't catch.

"That's only if you were gay, and that's not a bad thing. Kageyama-San is great!" You try to calm Hinata down.

"You have a crush on Kageyama?" Tsukishima asks, popping out from nowhere.

"Not helping!" You scowl then turn back to Hinata, patting his biceps. He stops moving and stares into your eyes, his brown eyes almost hard to see past his largely dilated pupils. "I was joking, I don't actually think you like him in that way. It just sort of looks like you're a couple." You smile awkwardly.

"How?" Hinata mumbles, not breaking contact with you. It is sort of creepy, the way he stares into your eyes with this weird emotion that made your body tingle – the fact you're so close together doesn't help.

"Well, you do both have matching sports pads." You point out sheepishly. Moments later he falls to the floor and buries his face in his legs.

"I'm not his boyfriend!" He squeaks.

"Wow! I didn't notice that." Satoru nods as he looks back and forth between Hinata and an approaching Kageyama.

"Hey, dumbass. Get off the floor." Kageyama glares at the ginger.

"They already have cute nicknames for each other too." Tsukishima snickers.

"Good one, Tsukki." Yamaguchi chuckles. Kageyama sends a glare their way.

"Kageyama, get new knee-pads!" Hinata yells.

"What? Why?" Kageyama scowls.

"Because we match! I don't want people thinking we're a couple!" Hinata huffs.

"A couple? Why the hell would they think that?" Kageyama scrunches up his face.

"Well, let me inform you on that one my buddy o' pal." Satoru pats Kageyama's shoulder, point to an imaginary image only he can see. "When in a relationship with your significant other, they both normally have a match object. Whether it be the same shirt, same shoes, same cellphone accessory or sports pads. It is how others can see that these two people are together. Like marking your territory." Satoru sighs dreamily. "It's the wonderful world of relationships. That is how we all know you're secretly dating Shouyo." He sums up. You hold back your laughter and Kageyama looks to you. You try to stifle it, but you splutter instead and turn away.

"Why the hell would people think I like this dumbass? They're just some pads." Kageyama glares at your brother.

"Well, maybe so. It could just be a coincidence." Satoru shrugs as he walk to you.

"It is!" Both boys reply.

"Not in my case." Satoru shrugs.

"You're dating someone?" Tsukishima asks, not believing a word he speaks.

"Don't sound so surprised." He grins. "I'll let you know I'm a ladies man."

"Sure, one hundred percent, totally believeable." You roll your eyes, earning small laughter from the boys.

"Huh? You hurt me so. As it is me and you who are a couples item." He pouts.

"You two are dating?!" Yamaguchi gawks as well as the other, well less Kageyama and Tsukishima, they just looked disgusted.

"No, no, no!" You immediately jump in. "We have brackets. That's not a relationship thing. That is incest." You remind them.

"Why did you guys look so surprised? Jealous that you can't have my sister? Maybe if you get on my good side I'll allow you to date her. She is at least worth ten cows." He nods, seriousness laced in his words.

"Shut it before I tell mum what you've been saying." You scrunch up your nose at him. He stares at you in fear.

"Please don't tell mum. I'll do anything!" He pleads, throwing himself onto his knees. You think for a moment, crossing your arms.

"Tidy our room." You instruct him.

"I meant anything within reason." He stares at you like a mad man. "Like go to England and buy you some tea." You roll your eyes, letting out a small laugh through your nose before waving him off. He scatters quickly as you watch him run around.

"So you're not actually dating anyone?" Hinata asks, looking at you. His eyes are wide, his mouth partially open. You're taken back fkr a moment, almost leaning away from his gaze. Your mind is running a mile a minute. The other first years are also awaiting your answer.

"Well," you chuckle nervously, staring off somewhere else. "I'm not in a relationship with anyone at the moment." The perplexed looks they are sending make your heart hammer. "Anyway, I'm looking forward to being your coach but I've got to go. People to be, places to see." Then you speed walked away from them.
God those looks made your body have a hot flash. Scolding yourself for everything stupid you said, you walk out the door and after your brother.
