Serve Fourteen
"Pika-pika-pika-bitch!" You chant as you skip down the school halls towards your brother. Finally the day of training camp. You got dragged along to this. Ukai making you coach really disrupted your schedule. Guess you weren't working this weekend. Bout you feel excited. Your first trip at Karasuno.
Ahhhh! Sleepover with boys! Who's face shall I draw on? Who shall I scare? Evil plots mwah-ha-ha-ha!
You laugh wildly in your thoughts, a creepy grin appearing on your face. Everyone is having a potty break before returning to the gym, and after they'd finally be leaving to the lodge.
"Oh brother of mine!" You coo, running down the hallway towards him.
"Yes sister of mine!" He twirls around to greet you. You jump on him, pushing up on his shoulders as he wraps his arms around your waist, keeping you suspended in the air.
"Hello, Hinata!" You grin, seeing the boy behind your brother. Satoru lowers you down, turning around.
"Hi, (S/n)-chan!" Hinata replies, an equally as big smile on his face. "I can't believe we get to go on a training camp! It's my first one!" He squeaks happily.
"I can't wait either!" You grin excitedly. Well, maybe not excited because of the training camp, more because you had two cans of fizzy drinks and weren't aloud to move from your seat. Now you had pent up energy you needed to lose before you got stuck on the coach for an hour or two.
"We've been to these sort of things before, but they're always exciting!" Satoru joins, the same excited expression on his face.
"Really?! I didn't know that! What did you do before?" Hinata asks as all three of you walk out in tow towards the gym.
"(F/n) had football and I had volleyball. But then she also did badminton and netball. She even helped out in junior high with the volleyball team." Satoru lists off.
"Wow, you did so much!" Hinata gawks.
"It's not that much." You wave off with a smile. "I just get distracted easily. Plus, they were fun sports." You shrug as you approach the gym.
"Is volleyball fun too?!" He asks. You knew he'd been... well not obsessed, but resilient to find out if you liked volleyball again. It's not that you hated, it just didn't peek your interest anymore. The game made you twitchy. But Hinata seemed to want to make you love the sport.
You stand in your signiture spot in the gym. Just at the lip of the stage, sitting on the edge and watching the boys practise. You were evaluating their spikes. Each player had their own flaws, which anyone would, but you needed tot hink of how to make them improve upon it. But even if you did, you had the issue of how to tell them. You couldn't just straight uo tell them! You aren't Ukai. This team loved the game, it's their passion. Imagine being critiqued on that by someone who doesn't even play. You begin twitching at the thought.
Telling someone they can't do something and watch them become sad? Nope, never, not capable. You couldn't do that. You had no right to tell someone they can't do a certain move if you can't even do it yourself. That's being a hypocrite.
You couldn't rip into people, that'd make you feel bad to put someone down.... Which Ukai had down earlier. You focused back on watching spiking practice and ignored your over thinking.
Sugawara and Kageyama have the job of serving, and your actual duty right now is ball boy. Ukai sends you a look, borederline scolding. You inch towards the side as you see it's Asahi's turn to serve. Ukai nods, impressed as Asahi slams it down. You flinch, watching as it bounces around. You then wqtch as it stops and go collect it before putting it back in the basket. You'd stood with Asahi a couple of time, never really spoken with him. Nishinoya seemed to brush whatever it was that hapoened between them under the bridge. And the third years had rekindled their friendship too.it nawed on yoj, wanting to know what happened. But you had no right to know. You'd only stuck around the last 3 days due to being forced into Assisstant Coach position. But it was nice seeming them all together. It is like everything had fallen into place.
Ah, this is sounding more and more like a sports anime each passing week.
You put another ball in the cart as Hinata goes in for a spike. Ukai shouts out encouragement and you turn to watch them. Sugawara is stood the closest to you, and you watch as he serves a ball. He's the calmer setter, reliable and has the slower serve. You smile as you watch him. He serves for Kinoshita, and it arches gently before the second year makes a connection.
"Suga, good serve!" He looks over his shoulder after hearing you, so you send him a cheeky smile. He sends back his own knock-out smile and nods in appreciation. Three hours later, overcome by exhaustion, everyone starts heading for the coach.
"Okay, let's get going." Ukai claps his hands, getting everyone's attention. The Karasuno boys team had already loaded up their things and drop into their seat. The road there didn't seem so long. No one was overexcitable, probably due to exhaustion, and you sit on the window seat with Satoru leaning against you, groaning every now and then from the rough movements of the coach. Just as you stepped off the coach, your bags on shoulder, you felt a hand being placed on your arm. You jump slightly and turn to see Kiyoko. You look at her expectantly. She looks away timidly, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear as her cheeks tint pink.
"Can you please help me with dinner?" She asks.
"Yeah, of course. I would have offered anyway." You agree immediately. She clasps her hands together and smiles, before walking off leaving you to follow after her. You finally arrive in the kitchen, grabbing the aprons from hangers on the back wall.
"ukai said that theres curry." Kiyoko looks around, trying to get an idea of the utensils.
"I'll get working on the rice."
"Gwah! This tastes great!" Hinata gawks as he shovels food down his gulet. Kageyama mirrors his movements. Tanaka and Nishinoya are hasseling Kiyoko and you sigh, settling down beside Satoru. Your brother, unlike you, has a dumbass grin on his face. You side eye him as you eat a piece of chicken.
"What?" You finally ask, keeping your voice low.
"Great dinner." He grin, stuffing rice in his mouth.
"Yeah, Kiyoko-Senpai made it." You glare, chewing on food.
"Hmm." He hums, nodding. Your nose twitches and you stare at him through half-lidded eyes.
"(S/n)." You and Satoru turn around to Yamaguchi. Tsukishima sniggers, noting that for later. "Oh, erm, I'm sorry. I meant (F/n)-san." Yamaguchi blushes, looking apologietic to Satoru. Your brother shrugs, turning back to his food. Yamaguchi winces at himself before quirking a brow at you. "Can I call you that?!"
"It's fine Yamaguchi. You can just call me (F/n) if you want." You smile softly, trying to calm him down.
"No he can't." Satoru snaps, then he glares over at Yamaguchi, then quickly puts on a innocent smile. "You can call me Satoru, she's called (L/n)-chan to you."
"Mind your own business." You mumble, looking down at your plate and putting food in your mouth. Then you perk your head up, a smile on your face. "You did pretty good today at practise, Yamaguchi."
"Thank you (S/n)-chan." He smiles. You heard a long sigh coming from Tsukishima and looked to see him rolling his arms.
"What's wrong?" You question, looking him over. "Do you want a compliment?" You raise a brow. That was out of character for him. He scrunches up his face at you.
"I don't want to be patronized." He scoffs.
"I've never lied to anyone." You pout, acting offended half halfheartedly. He raises a brow to you then goes back to his dinner. "Anything fun happen today?" You ask, looking back to the curry.
"Who you asking?" Satoru asks.
"Anyone who's willing to answer." You reply, scooping up curry sauce. Satoru grins, rubbing his chin in thought.
"Well today someone put a love letter in my locker." He smirks.
"I'm sure they just had the wrong one."
Hearing shrill screams coming from the floor below you hop down the steps only to come across Hinata, Tanaka, Nishinoya and Asahi.
"Oh, Hinata. It's first years turn to shower." You tell him, walking towards the vending machine. They all just and look to you. You furrow your brow at their stare, except for Asahi. He just stood there awkwardly.
"(F/n)-chan! There's a ghost here, but don't be scared. We'll save you!" Nishinoya announces, gripping his fist tightly.
"You'll save me?" You ask, slipping a coin into the vender. "Does that imply that you'll leave me to get in danger in the first place? What a irresponsible prince you are." You tut, pressing a button. Nishinoya falls quiet, leaving Tanaka to pipe up.
"I'll never let you get in danger." The bald male grins.
"Thanks Tanaka-kun." You nod, poking your straw into the silver foil.
"Did you see me at practice today?" Hinata asks, jumping over to your side.
"Yeah, you were alright." You say nonchalantly, finally taking a sip from the drink.
"I know right!" He yells. You laugh, shaking your head slowly.
"You too Azumane-Senpai. You and Sugawara make a great team." You smile up to the tall man. It was odd today. His hair was down and slightly damp, dew drops trickling down then finally falling onto his towel that was draped around his shoulders. He rubs the back of his head.
"Really? I wasn't that good." He blushes. You could see Nishinoya was going to say something, but you butt in first.
"Don't put yourself down like that. There's a reason they call you the Ace, and that is surely clear by seeing you on the court, Azumane-Senpai." You smile, crinkles appearing around your eyes.
"Thank you. And you don't have to call me Azumane, just say Asahi." He smiles back softly. 'I should call him BFG. In secret. If I told them half the stuff that whizzes through my mind they'd send me to the crazy house.'
"Okay Asahi-Senpai." And with that, you twirl on your heal and walk back to the dorm room you were assigned to. Luckily for you, you didn't age to share with the boys. But you knew by morning rolled around Satoru would of crawled in there somehow.
Everyone was back in the gym, except you, who was filling up water bottles. Your earphones were in, your mouth lightly humming, and your finger tips tapped on the side of the bottle. Ah the refreshing air of the morning. Oh how you loved to be woken up early in the morning just to make breakfast for a group of boys.
Sarcasm intended.
You heard a noise behind you to see the boys began on their run, so you picked up their bottles and returned to the gym. They'd be thirsty after doing all that running, so you were glad you had filled them up.
"-I'm the temporary coach now," You heard Ukais voice as you approach the gym, it getting louder, "I can't base my decision on a players feelings."
"So based on that you should put Kageyama as Offical Setter." You add, walking in. Ukai tilts his head back at you.
"Stop doing that."
"Not my fault you're going deaf with old age."
"I'm in my twenties! Quit bashing on me and watch the boys!" He scolds, pointing outside. You let out a long, dramatic sigh and drag your feet after dumping the bottles on the floor.
"Fine!" You whinge, a grin on your face despite the whiny tone. You step out the gym and stretch your arms and legs before remembering the route for running. Placing your hand on the floor, you get into starting position. "On your marks," you grin, goofing off. "Get set." You raise your butt. "Go!" You yell, smiling brightly. You sprint off at full speed and race off along alleyways. "Shortcut, shortcut, shortcut, shortcut, shortcut." You chant under your breath, then get ready to turn right at the next turn. Then from there you could cut off the boys and greet them half way. Then your body stops as you see a tall figure standing out from the rest. You tilt your head and slow down to a walk, looking at the back of him. He wore his jacket over his shoulder, his bed head messy with his hand reaching through it and the other on his hip. 'That hair... That color. Though its faint, I can sort of read his jacket even though he crumpled it. N, is that an e.... Wait a second.'
"Oh hey. Have you seen a boy anywhere. About this high with blond hair and brown roots?" He asks, turning around to face you. He had very messy black hair that was pulled forwards and squinting brown eyes. He had big muscles and wore a red track suit with white stripes up the side. You then saw his shoes. 'Special volleyball shoes. Medium price. Means he's from a working class family. Maybe-- nows not the time. He asked A questions! Answer doofus!'
"No, but perhaps we can look together. I'm looking for my friends." You add, rubbing the back of your head shyly as you approach him. 'Right. This is were you put on your shop charm and have confidence. Don't mess this up. Confident, but not too confident.' You take in a deep breath and reach your hand out, a bright smile on your face.
"I'm (L/n) Sa-(F/n). (F/n)." You falter and mentally kick yourself. Where you really just going to introduce yourself as your brother. He reaches his hand out and shakes back, a slanted grin on his face.
"I'm Tetsurou Kuuro, sweet cheeks." He grins.
