Drink The Fuck Up
"I want vodka. Fill it half way then add some rum and a bit of whiskey. I want to forget my day." A man sat and told me as I cleaned out a glass since it was nearing closing time and I want to get the fuck out of here.
"Do you want to forget your day or make sure you don't have another? Mixing all of these shits will fuck you up, mate." I looked at the older man who looked like he had a shitty day. Scratch that; life. His hair and clothes were disheveled as his green eyes were bloodshot red. He sneered at me as I just looked back at him.
"Listen, Lucky Charms, I didn't ask all that. Make the drink or shut up."
"Wow, Lucky Charms. Because I'm Irish. Funny. You're a funny man." I said putting down the glass as I slowly began to make the man his drink."You know what else is funny? You at three in the morning on a Sunday drinking your problems away since you can't face them. Fucking hilarious."
"Just make my drink, please. I'm not in the mood to go back and forth with another bartender." He ran a hand through his red messy hair as I just laughed.
"Dude, you seem like you've been through it. You were at another bar before this?"
"Yup. They ended up closing but the bartender yelled at me for ordering too many drinks that I couldn't finish. I'm not even a real drinker, I just don't know how to cope.... My fiancé left me." He told me. I was about to say something but he spoke up again."For my twin brother."
"Shit. I think I'm gonna drink with you because that's just shitty. She left you for someone... that looks exactly like you. I'm sorry, pal." I said, making his drink at a quicker pace because he truly needed it. Being a bartender, I hear a lot of stories, many of them leading to why that person is in this bar. I've heard people gush about crushes, talk shit about their exes or complain about their lives. I've heard it all but I kinda feel bad for this guy and I didn't even hear the full story yet.
"We were together since high school. Through the acnes and braces, through the weight gain and loss, I've been there. I've been there for eight years. Violet was never a popular girl but I loved her so much. I loved her freckles, her buckteeth, and her blue eyes. She was perfect but she didn't feel perfect so she went through this huge fucking makeover and I still thought she was beautiful, I always did. I noticed she was acting a little weird these last few months and I suspected she was cheating but I... I didn't want to believe it..." He let out a deep exhale as I placed his drink next to him to which he picked up with a sad smile. That sad smile I recognized oh so often in this place."Thank you... I'm just unloading all my problems on you, I'm sorry."
"I'm a bartender, I listen to people every night. Think of me as an unofficial therapist who gives you alcohol." I smiled at him as music played softly in the background. Lenny decided to turn it down because there were only two patrons here and one is Passed Out Patrick who is always blackout drunk... He may have a problem."But look, buddy, I'm really sorry she did that to you. You didn't deserve that and karma is going to get her in the ass. I don't know you but most likely, you'll find someone even better than her. I got faith in you."
The man sighed then took his phone out of his pocket, looking down at it with teary eyes. He flipped the phone around to show me the beautiful woman as his lock screen. Icy blue eyes peered at me with a wide grin from the screen. Holy shit, she was gorgeous. He is..... was, a lucky man.
"She's gorgeous but believe me, you'll find a girl who's better.... I remember in high school, I dated the hottest girl, Georgina Patel. I still remember her vividly after all these years but she was just fucking beautiful. Spontaneous, sexy, sexual, feisty- everything I thought wanted in a woman. Now, the problem with Georgina is that she was very jealous and insecure about our relationship. Always thought I was cheating or sleeping around but I never did. I mean, look at me I'm gorgeous, but I'm a one-woman kind of lad." The man listened to my story as I turned around to continue cleaning the glasses before closing."I really liked the girl but she was sooo jealous and I hated it but I stayed. One day, I go to her house to surprise her and find her head in Nathan Warner's lap."
"She was giving a guy head?"
"Yeah, after she fucked him."
"Wh-what did you do?"
"I laughed. I just laughed because here was this girl that was so sure that I was cheating, fucking the dude who was notorious for cheating. I left her house and never went back. A while after that, I dated another girl named Tina Jackson and she was greater than Georgina. Absolute sweetheart. People always said Georgina was hotter, which meant sluttier, but Tina was better than her in every way. Caring, funny, smart, gorgeous. She was everything I truly needed in a woman. So what I'm saying is, you have to go through some shit to find a diamond. Tina was a diamond and you don't wanna lose that diamond. Violet wasn't really your diamond but instead a rhinestone, a fake. You have time to find your diamond."
"That-that was really inspiring, man. Thanks for that advice. I wish I could be strong like you. Whatever happened to the girls?" He asked me from behind while I wiped down the remaining glasses.
"Tina's in the Marines now so I don't get to see her often and Georgina... my sister beat her up in a Chili's parking lot. No, I didn't tell her to do it, she's just very.... violent. She even threatened to kick my ass if I went back to her. I told her that I wouldn't take her back even if she had a minge made of gold. I'd never go back." I shook my head think about the one girl that broke my heart and the other girl that had to mend it. Georgina did me a favor. If she didn't cheat, I wouldn't have found Tina. I actually miss Tina sometimes. I wonder if she thinks about me...
"Damn, you are so much better than me. I'm weak for Violet. I loved that girl. If I saw her right now and she said that she loves me, I'd take her back in a heartbeat. She was the woman of my dreams. I wouldn't turn her down. I'd do virtually anything she'd ask me to without any second thoughts." The man said and I stopped what I was doing. What he said caught my attention immediately.
"I'm sorry, I didn't catch that middle bit. She was what?" I have to make sure that's what he said because I don't wanna seem like I'm overreacting.
"The woman of my dreams. She was just so perfect. No one held a candle to her." He reminisced with a smile as he looked down into his glass, picturing the woman that did him wrong.
"Ohhhh, alright. Woman of your dreams. Got it." I turned back around but reached into my pocket for my phone because this man might die the minute he leaves this bar. Scrolling down to 'T' in my contacts, I tried to call Wyatt but when she didn't answer, I texted her.
Me: Wyatt u up??👀
The Whore: The fuck u want?
Me: I think we may have a problem very soon at my job. Siren might come cuz there's a sad bloke who's crying. Get on ur broomstick and make ur way over here
The Whore: Fuck u... I'm on my way.
I placed my phone back into my pocket as I turned around to face the man who actually finished his drink. He rubbed his face with one hand as he cleared his throat. I could hear him fishing in his pockets for his keys and that gave me an idea.
"Dude, give me your car keys. I can't have you driving." I reached out my long arm to him, causing him to raise a brow.
"This is my fourth drink of the night and the only one I actually finished. I sobered up a while ago. Thank you for the concern but I'm alright to drive." He smiled at me to which I rolled my eyes.
"How many fingers am I holding up?" I held up four fingers, to which he scoffed.
"This is childish but whatever, you're holding up four fingers man."
"Four? You see four? I'm holding up two." I looked at my four fingers, pretending to only see two causing him to squint at me.
"Come on man, not funny. I'm fine."
"Alright fine, just wanted to let you know that I had a breast implant at four years old but Britney Spears took them." I shrugged nonchalantly as he just gaped at me with wide eyes.
"What?!"
"I said I just wanted to let you know it's not safe driving that drunk. What did you think I said?" My thick brow was raised as he continued to stare at me. He blinked multiple times then looked at his glass and the glass that I was cleaning."Yeah, you didn't only have one buddy. How about I give you a Bloody Mary and I call you a cab home?"
"That... that'll be great." He stared at the empty glass in disbelief. I had to lie to him to protect his ass from something much worse.
After twenty minutes of me cleaning up the empty bar, the doors opened and Wyatt walked in with a beige colored trench coat over her white button-up and black pencil skirt. Her heels clicked as she made her way over to me and the man who sighed as he downed his last drink of the night.
"You look like you're about to flash people." I laughed at her outfit as she punched me in the shoulder with furrowed brows. Hmm, I think she's upset.
"Asshole. I was in the middle of something." She flopped down on the barstool with a frown. I swear this girl barely smiles when I'm around. How could she not smile around me?! I'm a ball of fucking sunshine! Her loss.
"Probably in the middle of two guys." I laughed pouring out a shot of whiskey for my little sister who just glared at me. Damn, if looks could kill, I would be dead already...Dead and awesome of course, because I'm Frankie.
"No, you dickhead.... it was just one guy. We were about to have a wonderful night until you interrupted so I had to leave him. How come you decided to call me and not Kenji? He's the man for this job." She threw back her shot and clenched her teeth from the strength of it. She underestimated my whiskey so she felt the fucking burn.
"Kenny is super stressed out but he won't let us know that. He's not even sleeping anymore, Wyatt. He's too obsessed so I decided to give him the night off. He needs to relax."
"Easier said than done. Kenji doesn't know when to relax, he gets too focused on a case and puts his health last so he needs this break. Because even though this is just a hunch you have, he'll haul-ass here Flintstone style if he has to.....That's the sad sack?" Wyatt gestured to the only man in the bar as he just bobbed his head to music that wasn't even playing.
"Yeah. Yo!" I tapped on the bar top to get his attention. The sad, now buzzed, man turned his head to me but then gazed at Wyatt with light in his eyes."Meet my sister, Wyatt."
"Are you an angel?" He asked her with a smile across his face as he hiccuped.
"That's like the third time I heard that today. Is it the trench coat?" She looked down at her outfit, questioning the overcoat she wore.
"Angels don't wear trench coats, stupid."
"Angels could wear trench coats. I think it would suit them." She disagreed as the man still continued to stare at her. This was common for guys to just gawk at her. I hated it because they just looked at her like she's a piece of meat and being her big brother, I still get protective over her even though she doesn't need or want my protection. We argue, call each other names and say horrible things to each other but I love her more than anything. She'll always be my little sister....Ew I'm being sappy. Gotta snap out of it.
"Well, they aren't fucking real so let's talk about the Siren that is real. We gotta get this guy out of here, he's vulnerable as it is. I had to take his car keys and convince him that he's too pissed to drive. Then I had to actually get him drunk. He's too exposed right now." I lowered my voice so he couldn't hear exactly what we were talking about.
"Especially in this place. I'm surprised it didn't get him sooner. Let's get you out of here." She walked over to the man with a smile as she helped him out of his seats. I hit the lights on the place as we finally decided to leave. Since I'm the only one left, I had to lock up. After that, we were on our way.
"Where are we going?" The man asked, his voice nearly a whisper as he looked up at me while I helped him walk.
"Taking you far from here." I smiled but it was gone the minute he looked away from me to stare at Wyatt who walked with her hands in her pockets looking straight ahead.
It was quiet outside. Too quiet for the city. The moon was nowhere in sight as the sky was still a dark blue dotted with stars as the wind blew quietly. My long sleeves kept me cold from the chilly air as we walked through the lonely parking lot, the place where shit always goes down on tv and movies. I wouldn't be surprised if-
"Todd. Tooooodd." A voice beckoned causing all of us to freeze. Holy fuck.
"For the love of God, please don't tell me your name is Todd." I breathed out as we felt the presence of something with us. Something not human. The man turned around to face the voice and his face just fell flat. His eyes shimmered with tears as he looked to the figure. Dreading what I was about to see, I turned to see the beautiful brunette that 'Todd' had shown me a picture of."Fuck. Let's go, now."
"Violet? Violet, honey, you came back to me!" Todd tried to walk back to her but I stopped him short. He looked at me, dejected, as if I did the rudest thing possible."Dude, it's her. It's my girl. She's here."
"That's not your girl," Wyatt said popping open her trunk. She opened the secret compartment inside revealing the shitload of weapons. Horror flashed across Todd's face as he witnessed the various amounts of legal and illegal arsenals in my sister's trunk. Wyatt picked up a handgun, loaded it and tossed it to me. For herself, she picked up a silencer. Ah, one of her favorite toys."Get in the car, Todd."
"What the fuck? You people are fucking crazy! Dude, come on! I showed you a picture of her! You know that's her!" He pleaded to me with begging eyes, on the verge of tears. I felt bad for the poor son of a bitch but we're helping him.
"Get in the car, Todd." I told him as we both cocked our guns.
"I didn't get to kill you last time but today, I'm going to fuck your shit up." Wyatt aimed at it excitedly. The monster in the form of Violet just smirked at us. That can't be a sign of fear at all.
"You really know how to ruin a girl's fun, don't cha? You Gatekeepers and your saving humanity ways. Sick." It laughed, walking slowly towards it as we had our guns aimed."I remember you, pretty girl! You shot me and man, did that hurt! But you didn't kill me. You can't kill me."
"If you bleed, you can die. I'll find a way to kill you tonight because I'm getting pretty damn tired of you." Wyatt sneered at it as it laughed at us.
"But I'm having so much fun! I just killed like three guys before this and I'm trying to have my fourth but you are killing the vibe!" The siren giggled as is it got closer to us. The siren was taunting us, showing that it didn't fear us one bit but it should."I only wanted the man but I can totally brag about killing two Gatekeepers to my friends. It'll boost my reputation."
"Are all sirens this annoying? Like for fuck's sake, do you ever just shut the fuck up?" I asked causing the siren to drop its smile.
"I liked you better in your real skin. You were less chatty." Wyatt shrugged as it sneered at us. It lunged towards us but Wyatt shot at it first. The bullet found the Siren's shoulder but that didn't stop it from trying to attack. It swung at Wyatt but her reflexes were too quick. She grabbed the siren by the wrist and elbowed it in the face causing it to stumble backward."You sure you want to do this?"
"I'm going to enjoy bathing in you and your brother's blood." It spat out blood then tried to come for me but I pistol-whipped it causing it to growl. I heard Todd scramble into the car, slamming it the door shut to protect him from what was going on. I had no idea he was standing behind us for so long.
Wyatt tried to punch the monster but it pushed her with a great force that it sent her backward, causing her to roll on the street. It took her a few seconds to get back up but she made it back to her feet. She looked down and kicked off her heels then neatly sat them on the curb. Oh shiiiit.
"You fucked up." I laughed at the siren while Wyatt took off her trench coat and rolled up her sleeves with her gun in one hand. The Siren attempt to punch me but I shot it twice in the stomach at close range. It winced but threw me backward onto the pavement. My little sister held up her fist as she approached the monster who grinned wickedly at her. The siren swung at Wyatt once again but she ducked and punched it in the stomach, hard. It hunched over in pain causing Wyatt to knee it in the face and grabbed a fist full of its hair to punch it in the face repeatedly. Thinking quickly, I ran to the trunk and pulled out both the silver and iron chains, hoping that either of them would work. I wrapped it around the siren that was going hand to hand with my sister and it let out a hair-raising scream.
"What's wrong? Does it burn? Are you uncomfortable?" I asked as Wyatt wiped the blood from her mouth. The siren hissed as its skin sizzled from the chains. I don't know which one is working but I'm glad it is.
"Take these shits off of me right now." It croaked out, sweat forming on its forehead as Wyatt went to put back on her shoes and jacket.
"But it looks so good on you. Besides, if I took it off, we wouldn't be able to kill you and where's the fun in that? I just can't wait to find what actually kills you but the real fun is testing out what does. This is exciting!" I told it, watching the fear build up in its eyes because it knew that we were going to kill it and that we were relentless."Wyatt, Call the others and tell them to meet us by the warehouse. I'll put...this... in the car."
"Fine. And I'll call a cab for Todd too, I don't want him in the same car as that. Looks like we have to get Kenji involved anyway." She said taking out her phone as I walked the creature to the car. I opened the door to let Todd out who just gaped at me in fear. He looked at the siren then at me then back at the siren.
"So she's really not Violet...." He said getting out of the car with a somber expression. I could tell that even seeing this siren was hurting him immensely."Then what is it?"
"A Siren. They parade themselves to be something they're not to attract people to them. Since Violet was the woman of your dreams, it used that to try and lure you and then...kill you." I sighed as the siren fidgeted in its chain but only hissed one again.
"A siren...those are real now? What else are real? Vampires, Werewolves, Unicorns, fucking Leprechauns!" He laughed but ceased when he saw that I was nodding my head."No way...."
"Well, everything except Unicorns. Those shits are make-believe... but leprechauns are little killers. Had to deal with one a few years ago. Feisty little son of a bitch but he had a weakness for gold." I chuckled trying to lighten the mood to no avail because, at the end of the day, Todd will know that there's always something lurking and that Violet won't come back."Hey, you'll find someone better. You don't need that shit. She wasn't for you or deserves you. Take down my number so in case you need help or someone to talk to....I'll be there."
"Thank you, man... I would've died if you hadn't saved me. Thank you...So that girl's your sister?"
"Sadly, but between me and you, she's pretty badass." I turned around to look at Wyatt with a smile as she spoke on the phone admiring her bloody knuckles with a smirk. I couldn't help but be proud of her kicking that shit's ass. Mom and Dad would be proud too.
"She really, really is... she's really beautiful. Is she...like... seeing anyone?"
"Oh no no no. She's the not the one for you." I shook my head, turning my head to face him.
"Because she's.. a rhinestone?" He questioned me with a look of confusion.
"Oh no, my sister is a diamond. The brightest diamond. And she's not for you because she's my little sister and if she gets hurt by you, I'd have to hurt or kill you, Todd and I don't want to but for my sister, I would. Hey, don't worry, you'll find another diamond. Just not that one." I patted his shoulder with a smirk because I was absolutely serious. I'd kick anyone's ass for my sisters and even for my brothers.
For ten minutes, we stood in silence waiting for Todd's cab to come and when it did, he left us after saying thank you for the tenth time. When he left, we threw the siren into the backseat of Wyatt's car and I sat next to it to keep an eye on it. I looked at Wyatt through her rearview and gave her a wink as the Siren growled in its chains once again. This may be a win for the Walter's after all.
