TWENTY-TWO. strawberry poptarts

JACK'S SURPRISE wasn't much of a surprise. In fact, Rory would've bet a thousand dollars on what Jack's surprise could've been and she would've won.

He was letting her do karate once more at Miyagi-Do, but she also had to train with Jack, for safety measures he said.

A lot had happened in a small amount of time, Robby had gotten out, the All-Valley Under 18 had been taken away and given back to them in a matter of days.

And Rory still hadn't broken up with Robby.

She was currently sitting in her car outside the police station as she waited for Robby, telling her parents that she was hanging out with Sam and Demetri at Miyagi-Do.

No, she didn't like lying to them, but she knew that she could handle being in a relationship.

Expect—

There was a knock on her door and she unlocked the car for Robby to hop inside.

"How'd it go?" She asked, pulling out of the parking lot.

"Fine." He sighed, "As fine as getting a probation officer can be."

"Hey, it's not too bad." She reassured, "Just checking in on ya and seeing if you're doing well."

Robby glanced over at her, "Uh, Tory was there."

Rory nodded, tapping her fingers against the stirring wheel, "Was she?"

"Yeah, but um, she didn't stay long." He paused, "Why did she fight you?"

Rory sighed, "Something about knowing that Sam and Miguel were making out in the backyard. Not really sure. I had no idea that Sam was with him, let alone making out with him. And now... I'll never forget it."

Robby watched as Rory's hands tightened against the stirring wheel and her mood had shifted.

"Can we make a stop?" Robby asked.

Rory looked over, giving the boy a small nod and following his directions.

She finally pulled into a parking lot of a vacant park. It shocked the girl that no one was really there, especially since it was in the middle of the day.

"Why are we here?" She asked.

"To relax." He smiled.

He grabbed her hand, flipping in over. Her hand had slowly been healing from its bruise.

"It looks way better than before." He sighed, "You never said where it was from."

Rory squeezed his hand, "I thought you said we were relaxing." She scoffed, "Where this came from isn't going to bring me peace."

"I know where it came from. I saw her, remember?"

Rory deeply sighed, slipping her hand away from Robby's and rubbed her hands up and down her thighs.

She looked down at her hands, the bruise was getting better, faint, but still able to see it from her fight with Tory.

Instead of letting that sweltering her mood, she decided to climb in the backseat and gestured Robby to follow behind.

She sat crisscrossed in front of him as she grabbed the Pop-tart from the drivers backseat pocket and gave Robby the other one.

Rory's mischievous smile deepened as she held up her half of the Pop-tart, mirroring Robby's. Their eyes locked, and without a word, they simultaneously took a bite of the strawberry tart.

Rory looked up at the boy, a small smile on her face.

He raised an eyebrow, "What's on your mind?" He asked.

Rory leaned forward, closing the remaining distance between them. Her lips brushed against his and she softly smiled.

Robby reached out, holding the nape of her neck and closing the very small distance between them.

Rory melted into the touch, her body instinctively leaning closer to Robby's.

That kiss would be their last.

THERE WAS a soft knock on the front door of the Brewer household.

Rory sighed, getting up from the couch and opening the front door. She held wide eyes as Robby stood on the other side.

She stepped outside and crossed her arms over her chest, "What-what are you doing here?"

"I just needed to talk to you."

Rory furrowed her brows, looking through the small window that led into the living room before looking back at Robby.

"That couldn't have been a phone call... or a warning call?" She asked.

"I think it's important that I tell you this in person."

"Okay... what's up?"

Robby deeply sighed, grabbing Rory's hands, "I'm going to join Cobra Kai."

Rory paused, she didn't move, she didn't even blink. She only pulled her hands away from Robby's touch. She back to back away from Robby as if his very presence had become toxic. Her hands clenched into tight fists, and her jaw tightened as she tried to control her rising frustration.

"You're joining Cobra Kai?" Her voice trembled with a hint of anger and disbelief, "After everything that's happened? After what... she did to me?"

Robby's expression turned pained, but there was a determined glint in his eyes. "I know it's complicated, Rory. But Sensei Kreese—"

"I honestly don't give a shit what Kreese said." Rory seethed.

"I want to be a better person and I think Cobra Kai can do that."

Rory scoffed, "Then you've lost your fucking mind. You're a good person. What happened with Miguel... I can't explain nor defend that, but that doesn't automatically make you a bad person. You're sorry and that's what matters."

There was a heavy pause. The two of them growing upset with themselves and each other. And Rory knew better than anyone that her and her family could bad mouth when they wanted to (i.e. Jack and Rory not that long ago), so she bit her tongue, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath before looking at Robby.

"I'd thought you'd understand." Robby spoke.

"Understand? Understand what, Robby?" Rory's voice wavered with a mix of sadness and anger, "That you're choosing Cobra Kai over us? Over me?"

"It's not about choosing them over you," He protested, "It's about trying to find my place, to find a way to be the person I want to be."

"And you think joining Cobra Kai is the answer?" Rory's voice rose with frustration, "You think Sensei Kreese, of all people, can help you become a better person?"

Robby hesitated, unsure of how to respond, "I believe in second chances, Rory." He finally said. "I need to prove to myself that I can change, that I can be more than my past mistakes."

Rory shrugged, "Fine. Do what you gotta do, but I'm done."

Robby knew what that meant. He stepped forward, slowly reaching his hand out, "Rory, I don't want to hurt you and I promise what I said was true. I do love you, but—"

Rory shook her head, her hand resting on the doorknob, "That's not love Robby. I'm done. We're done. Goodnight."

Rory didn't wait for Robby's response. She shut the door behind her as she entered her household. She made her way into her bedroom and heavily sighed.

She shut her eyes and sat down on her bed.

Her parents had finally gotten what they wanted... but at what cost?
