TWENTY-SEVEN. the secret of you and i
AFTER WHAT happened to Hawk, Eagle Fang, and Miygai-Do decided to separate. And with changes coming to the All-Valley, Eagle-Fang needed another female member on their team.
"Dad, come on!"
"No."
Rory rolled her eyes, as she followed her dad around the house to try and get her into Eagle-Fang for this one time to compete at the All-Valley for the first time.
"Please! They need at least one girl on their team to compete in certain categories and I'm their best player at this point and—"
"No. Final answer." Jack paused, "You're competing with Wasabi Warriors on your own."
Rory paused, "What?"
"Everything that's gone on with your friend Eli was tough and that reason alone is why Johnny and Daniel aren't on the same team. So, until they get their shit together you're competing alone with the Wasabi Warriors."
"Oh... okay."
Jack smiled, "I'll be training with Bo staff and Kim is coming down to teach you everything that she learned over in Japan. Sound good?"
"Sounds great." She smiled, "Sound amazing."
Things seemed to be going up for her... hopefully, that would last.
A COUPLE of days had passed and the West Valley High Junior Prom was on its way.
Rory had straightened her hair as she sat down in her white robe. She held her Fenty gloss bomb in her hand and her Rare Beauty eyeliner in the other as she swiped it across her lid.
There was a soft knock on the door and she didn't turn but muttered come in as she focused on her makeup.
"Hey." Layla smiled, "Just checking in. The limo should be here shortly."
Rory would never forget how rich her parents were, more so her mother than her father, but rich nonetheless. Rory and Belly received PR packages because their mother was Layla.
Layla stepped inside, looking over towards Rory's bed as her rustic red, sleeveless dress lay in its spot.
Layla smiled, looking over at Rory as she sat down on the bed.
Rory was never a girly girl, but she learned enough about makeup from watching her mom get things done when she needed to.
Belle on the other hand had professional makeup in her room at the moment.
"Are you excited?" Layla asked.
"I guess." Rory sighed, setting the eyeliner down and picking up the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, "I don't think I'll be there long though. I'll just Uber home, so worry about it."
"I want you to have a good time, Aurora."
"And I'll try to. Stuff like this isn't for me. It's more you and Belle's style." Rory sighed, "I promise to try and have some fun, but I won't put all my eggs into one basket."
"All I'm saying is to be safe." Layla smiled, "And to have fun, but most importantly be safe."
Rory stood up, grabbing her dress from her mothers' hands, "I'll be safe in all the ways."
With that, Rory got dressed and she and Belle were at their junior prom. The twins decided to go solo and whatever happened would happen.
Rory separated from Belle and made her way over to the table where Hawk stood.
"Flying solo?" She asked.
Hawk looked over, smiling gently over at Rory, his eyes going down her body as her dress hugged her in all the right places.
"You look... great, Rory."
She returned the soft smile and propped her body against the table, "Thank you. Didn't know you could dress so nice either."
Hawk only smiled, looking over and seeing Moon talking with someone by the punch bowl.
He sighed, looking back over at Rory who was looking at the crowd of people in the building.
"Rory?" He called, "About the other night at your house—"
Rory looked down, smiling as she looked over at him, "I told you not to worry about it." She chuckled, "A lot was going down and you and I were going through some shit, and... it happened."
"I don't want this to, like, ruin anything, Rory."
"It's not." She smiled, "If I'm cool then you should be too."
He only nodded and turned. Rory followed his gaze and nodded to herself.
"Have you tried talking to her?"
Hawk continued to stare, "No."
"You're not going to get very far by staring at her." Rory said, "Look, I heard there's an after-party. All you have to do is loosen up and breathe. Trust me, you'll be laying it down in no time."
And he wouldn't be the only one either.
AT THE party, Rory had separated herself from Demetri and Hawk, simply because Demetri and Yasmine had been making out on the couch and making her uncomfortable with how much Yasmine began to lean over towards the girl.
She made her way into the kitchen, grabbed a solo cup from the person, and turned. What she hadn't expected was to see Robby standing there in a red suit, almost matching her own.
"Hey." He softly smiled.
She sighed, sipping her drink, "Hey."
"You look great."
Rory only nodded, rocking back and forth in her shoes.
She didn't intend for things to be awkward between them, but after she punched him in the face... they hadn't spoken since.
"Whoa! They say the music died." Raymond shouted, "What's going on? Guys, turn it back on."
"There are families on this street trying to get some sleep!" A man shouted, coming inside the house, "If y'all don't go home right now, you are gonna get arrested for underage drinking."
But, Raymond kicked the man, Greg, in his face, taking his phone, and preventing him from calling the police.
The party continued and Rory soon found herself in the backyard with her feet in the pool.
But her relaxation didn't last long as Tory, Sam, Robby, and Miguel began fighting in the backyard.
By the time the girl stood up from the pool, she, Tory, Sam, and Miguel had fallen/been pushed into the pool.
Rory pushed herself up, her head breaking through the water as she ran her hand over her face.
Robby shut his eyes tightly and squatted down to help the girl out of the pool.
She looked over, rolling her eyes and slapping his hand away from her.
"I'm sorry." He called, "We didn't see you and—"
"Whatever, just..." She held her hand out and once it was laced with hers, she smirked, pulling him into the pool with her.
After some time, the party slowly died down and Belle had told Rory that she would be staying with Moon.
Rory turned, "Take the limo." She smiled, "I have a ride home."
"You sure?"
"Yeah, don't worry. I'll see you tomorrow."
Belle waved Rory goodbye and once she was out of sight, Rory made her way to the rented car that Robby had.
She sighed, sitting in the passenger seat, "I'm only riding with you because you want to talk."
Robby gave her a small smile and began to drive, but not to her house, not yet anyway.
He drove the two of them to a vacant parking lot, parking under a street lamp.
"You didn't take me out here to kill me, did you?" She asked.
"No." He chuckled, pausing for a moment, "I just wanted to apologize... for everything."
"That's a great place to start."
"I joined Cobra Kai to spite my dad and I genuinely believed that I could be a better person and... I like to think that I have."
"You assaulted someone, Robby."
He nodded, "I did and I'm sorry—"
"You don't need to apologize to me." She spoke softly, "The reason we broke up is because you joined Cobra Kai..." She paused, "My parents wanted us to break up a while ago."
Robby looked over, his brows furrowed.
"After you went to the detention center. They said I had to break up with you." She continued, "When I came to visit you that day—"
"You were going to break up with me."
Rory nodded, playing with the ends of her now curled hair (from the pool) as she waited for him to say something, to do anything.
"But you didn't," Robby muttered.
"I never wanted to." Rory sighed, "Especially after you said you loved me. How the hell was I supposed to break up with you then." She chuckled.
The two of them looked over at each other, a small smile painted on Rory's face.
"I never said it, but I think I might've loved you too." She muttered, "I've always had people come into my life and use me for my parents, to get close to them, to get followers, whatever. But you weren't like that. I liked me because I was me, not because I was a Brewer."
Rory's heart pounded in her chest, her fingers twitching against her hair as the urge to bridge the small gap between them grew almost overwhelming.
And then, without a word, Rory moved. Graceful and deliberate, she shifted, her movements carrying a weight of intention. She found herself straddling his lap, her knees nestled against the cushioned seats on either side of him.
Robby's breath caught, his chest rising and falling with a mixture of surprise and anticipation. The shift in their positions seemed to erase the last remaining barriers, leaving only a scant breath of space between them. His hands hovered, as if unsure where to touch, where to rest.
Rory sighed, "Tell me what you want."
Robby's fingers trembled slightly as they found their place on her waist, pulling her just a fraction closer.
The touch was soft at first, a delicate exploration that sent shivers coursing through Rory's body. Her fingers brushed against his jawline, feeling the rough texture of his day-old stubble.
And finally, their lips met.
Rory's lips were soft against his, and Robby savored the sweetness of her taste.
Robby's fingers tightened their hold on her waist, pulling her impossibly closer. The sensation of her body pressed against his sent sparks of electricity through his veins. Rory's fingers delved further into his hair, threading through the strands with a gentle urgency.
Their breaths mingled, warm and uneven, as the kiss deepened into a more passionate exchange.
Her lips parted an invitation that Robby eagerly accepted, his tongue tracing the seam of her lips.
The taste of him, a blend of mint and a hint of the punch they'd been sipping at prom, filled her senses.
Rory's heart raced as her fingers traced a path down from his jaw to the strong column of his throat, the rhythmic beat echoing her racing pulse.
A soft, involuntary moan escaped from the back of Rory's throat. The sound seemed to ignite something within him. His movements grew bolder, more confident as if he was savoring the way her taste mingled with his.
His hands, once gentle on her waist, now slid upwards with aching slowness, his fingers tracing the curves of her sides before settling on her lower back. The sensation of his touch through the thin fabric of her dress sent tingles cascading down her spine.
And God it was good.
