TWENTY-ONE. forrest gump
"DEMETRI, CAN you hurry? These books are heavy."
"I'm the one suffering a broken arm, not you."
"No one asked you to carry three pounds of textbooks."
"I need to have the detention look like pennies when I apply to colleges." He sighed, trying to rummage through his locker, "I can't believe that Eli just—"
Rory looked past Demetri and looked over at the small crowd of people gathering around before the disappeared and Miguel made their way towards the duo.
"Holy shit! You're walking Forrest Gump!" She smiled, placing Demetri's things on the ground and pulling Miguel into a hug.
He embraced the girl. He knew nothing of her being in the hospital and nothing of her scar, until now.
She smiled as the boy pulled away, but the smile he once had slowly disappeared when he brushed the hair out of Rory's face.
"What happened to you?"
Rory cleared her throat and stepped back and Demetri stepped forward.
"Tory sliced her face like it was cold turkey." He said, "I could only hope to make a triumphant return like the both of you." Waving his cast in the air.
"What's up with the cast?" Miguel asked.
"Proximal radius fracture."
"It smells." Yasmine said, approaching the group.
"I put a lemon rind down there to mitigate that." He said, pulling a sharpie from his pocket, "The invitation for you to sign it still stands."
Yasmine scoffed, "Hard pass. At least when you used to be a thorn in my tits, you were getting me an A in science. Now you can't even do that because you're defective."
Yasmine gave the trio one last look before leaving them alone once more.
"So, uh... how'd you break your arm?" Miguel asked.
Demetri looked down at Rory before they looked back over at Miguel.
"We've got a lot to catch up on." Demetri sighed.
MIGUEL AND Rory met during lunch after she couldn't find Demetri in sight. Apparently Kyler had drawn a dick on his cast and the majority of the kids laughed at him causing him to leave the cafeteria all together.
"I just can't believe he broke Demetri's arm." Miguel scoffed, "And Tory..." Miguel turned, looking over at Rory who was shoving mangoes in her mouth, "I'm really sorry about that, Rory."
"I'm okay." Rory gulped, "I mean, I'm getting better." She corrected, "That's a lot of emotional damage I've got to work on. I think you get it."
Miguel chuckled, "Yeah, yeah I do." He smiled over at the girl, "Hey, Sensei is opening a new dojo. I think you should join."
"My parents are very fond of karate or Lawrence at the moment." Rory sighed, "I'm "banned" from it until further notice."
"They can't do that. I mean, your dad is one of the greatest Sensei's out there and he's just kicking you to the curb?"
"You said it, not me."
RORY'S LEG bounced up and down as she sat in the cold metal chair.
She was the only person visiting the Juvenile Corrections and she was only here to do one thing and one thing only.
She played with the necklace around her neck as she waited for Robby to enter the visiting area.
She took a deep breath as she heard the doors open and saw Robby making his way towards her.
He sat down in the seat across from her, not saying anything. She dropped her necklace before looking at him with a small smile. But her smile dropped as she noticed the bruise around his eye.
"What the hell happened to your eye?" She asked.
Robby sat back in his seat, his arms crossed over his chest and when he didn't answer, Rory cleared her throat and sighed.
"I know you're mad at me and I know—"
"I'm not mad at you, Rory."
"Oh," She sighed, "well... why not?"
Robby softly smiled, "Do you want me to be mad at you?" He asked.
Yes. A thousand times yes. It would be so much easier to break up if he was angry with her.
"No." She smiled, "I just— I don't know. A lot has happened and I thought that maybe—"
"It's not your fault, Rory." He reassured, "None of this is your fault."
Rory gave him a small smile and nodded, leaning back in the cold metal seat. She ran her finger through her hair and looked back up at him.
"Your scar looks better."
Rory sighed, "Yeah. I just have to get use to it."
Rory furrowed her brows and pulled her phone out of her pocket.
It was a text message from her mom telling her to hurry and that her father had a surprise for her at home.
Rory shoved her phone in her pocket and looked up at Robby, "I've got to go, but it was nice seeing you, Robby."
She stood up from her seat and shut her eyes as she made her way towards the exit. She didn't break up with and her parents were going to kill her and—
"Rory." Robby called, now standing, "I get out in a few days. Maybe we can... hang out or something."
Rory nodded, "Sure. Cool. I'd like that."
She turned once more, hoping to get the hell out of there, but Robby called his named once more and Rory turned with a small smile.
"Um, thanks for visiting me. I really appreciate it and, uh, maybe it's too soon, but um... I really do love you, Rory."
Rory sighed deeply, making her way back to him. She wasn't allowed to touch him because she might have some sort of weapon on her or some shit, but she was gonna do it anyway.
Rory wrapped her arms around Robby's neck and pressed her lips against his. His hand reached up, cupping her cheek.
His lips were heavily chapped, but she quite frankly didn't care. He placed his free hand on her hip.
Reluctantly, they broke the kiss, their lips lingering for a moment as they both caught their breath.
Rory looked in his eyes a small smile on her lips as she back away from him. She awkwardly waved and left the building all together.
If only that lasted.
