NINETEEN. kick me while i'm down
LAYLA LIED, but it was a valid lie.
She had told Jack that Rory was going to break up with Robby tomorrow, but she had told Rory that she could break up with Robby whenever it felt okay to do so. As in, yes, Rory had no choice but to break up with the boy, but on her own accord, not when Jack told her to.
Layla did not want her child to date a juvenile because of obvious reasons, but if Rory didn't break up with the boy within the next two weeks, she would have to take matters into her own hands.
But for now, Rory was back at school, making her way to the cafeteria with Demetri by her side and his diorama.
The two of the sat with Yasmine, Belly, Moon.
"I'm ready to go back to a world where we don't have to talk on a regular basis." Yasmin scoffed.
"Hey, hey!" Demetri spoke, "My popularity's on the rise, while yours is steadily declining. But, uh, maybe we can meet in the middle, like a sexual diagram."
"Ugh," Rory scoffed, "Demetri. Just show them what's under the stupid sheet."
He smiled, "Behold... what scientist believe to be the Valley when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Go ahead, press the hadrosaur egg."
Yasmin pushed the egg and the diorama began to make a noise and soon smoke began to fly from the makeshift volcano.
"Not bad." Yasmine smiled, "My parents may not have to pay for my A this time."
"Your parents will never have to pay for an A again."
And soon enough a yellow ball was thrown in their direction and completely ruined the work that Demetri had worked hours upon hours on.
"Oh... I'm sorry, man." Hawk laughed, getting the yellow soccer ball back, "Looks like my ball just got away from me."
"That took me three weeks to build."
"Eh, took my ball three seconds to destroy."
Demetri scoffed, following behind Hawk, "Another week, another pissing contest. Although I shouldn't be surprised since you love pissing so much."
"You landed one kick. You got lucky."
Soon, Sam approached, "Back off, or you won't be lucky."
Hawk scoffed, but his focus was on the guidance counselor who was monitoring the cafeteria.
"Yeah, like you'll start anything, princess. Actually, why don't you go sleep around with someone new and break his heart?"
In a fit of anger Sam pushed Demetri back and soon, guidance counselor Blatt approached the forming circle.
"You know our guidelines against physical contact." Blatt turned towards Hawk, "Did she enter your personal bubble without your verbal consent?"
"Yeah, she definitely triggered me in my safe space."
And that's when Rory stood to her feet, leaving the cafeteria as Belly, Hawk, and Sam watched the girl leave.
She didn't know what was wrong. Was it because Sam had pushed Hawk or was it because Hawk lied about Sam triggering his safe space?
Because, truth be told, Rory had her safe space heavily triggered when Tory slashed her face and leaving a permanent scar that she could never ever get rid of.
She still had her hair pinpoint straight to try and hide what had happened, but enough people had seen the fight between her and Tory.
There was nothing better than revenge, but what good would that would for Rory? What good would fighting Tory be for Rory?
So, Rory stepped into the girls bathroom, taking a deep breath and sliding the hair tie of her wrist and pulling her hair into a ponytail, getting a better view of her scar.
And before she knew it, it was time for gym.
Rory sat on the metal bleachers and tied her shoe, her hair in a ponytail and her scar on display for people to see. She would frequently bite the inside of her cheek because she felt like she'd been stared at for the majority of the time she sat on the bleachers.
She finally pulled herself out of her thoughts when Demetri voice began ringing in her ears.
"These gym shorts pinch in all the wrong places."
"Come on." Sam smiled, "Have a little school spirit."
"Oh, yeah. Go Mountain Lions!" He sarcastically spoke.
Soon, Hawk and a couple of others began making their way to the field and Demetri scoffed.
"I wish we could do something about those cretins."
Rory sighed, standing to her feet, "It's a soccer game. Try to win. Blatt isn't here and she can't stop us from playing a game."
That game didn't last long when the coach sent everyone playing to the principal's office for "playing too rough".
And one by one each of them spoke to the principal and Hawk was the last one to come out of the office.
"Caldwell, Johnson, Rickenberger, the three of you and Eli are free to go." Blatt told the boys.
"You're kidding me!" Sam exclaimed, "What about us?"
"The rest of you will be receiving rehabilitative, not punitive, Saturday detention."
"They're just as much at fault as we are." Rory spoke.
"This is bullshit!" Sam shouted.
"Miss. LaRusso!" Blatt furrowed her brows, "That is not how we express ourselves here. I think you need two weekends of rehabilitative detention."
Sam shouted once more before slamming her fist against the lockers and leaving the group behind.
RORY MADE her way home, taking her shoes off at the door from the dampness of the grass.
She looked up and saw her father looking back at her as he chewed (almost aggressively) on his sandwich.
Rory only raised her brows, "I have detention on Saturday."
She grabbed her shoes and made her way towards the steps to make her way to her room.
That was the only interaction the two of them shared. Nothing else was said and nothing else was done.
What the hell would he do when it came to Rory and the fight at in the laser tag place?
Well, that's a story for another time.
