FOUR. back to the start
JACK SLAPPED down a yellow flyer on Rory's desk and she turned to face him with a puzzling look.
"Did you know that there's a dojo in town?" Jack asked with a smile.
"Um, yeah." She nodded, "A guy at my school goes to it."
She grabbed the flyer and saw the words Corba Kai sprawled across the paper.
"Have you considered joining?"
Rory balled up the flyer and threw it in the trash. She wasn't planning on joining another dojo unless she was moving back to Seaford and joining the Wasabi Warriors.
"I don't think I'm joining a dojo unless you or Rudy are my Sensei's."
Jack sighed and sat down on Rory's bed. Rory turned in her chair to face him.
"I can't always be there for you, Aurora." Jack said, "This dojo could be good for you. You might have to start over as a white belt, but you'll work you way up as a black belt with ease."
"I don't know." She sighed. She looked over at her wall full of belts that she had aligned her walls. She worked hard for those belt and starting over wouldn't be very ideal for her.
"Can you try it out?" Jack asked, "For me, please."
Rory didn't want to disappoint him. He wouldn't be disappointed if she tried it or not. But ever since the move, Belle had been in and out of the house with Yasmin, Moon, and Sam, while Rory stayed in for the majority of her days.
Jack just wanted her to get out the house. To make friends like Belle had.
So, Rory would go to the Cobra Kai dojo with her duffel bag strapped to her back as she skated her way there.
The place seemed vacant, almost abandoned. But she saw Miguel inside with who she assumed was his Sensei.
She shook her thoughts away and pushed the door open.
"What the hell?" The older man muttered, "No yoga till five. No matter how bad you need it."
"Rory?" Miguel called.
"I'm here for karate." She answered, "My dad picked up one of your flyers and suggested that I join. I didn't know lesson was being held today."
"I appreciate you coming in, but there are no girls in Cobra Kai."
"What the fuck?" She questioned, "Why not?"
"Same reason there aren't women in the Army. Doesn't make sense."
"Look here, you old fucking raisin, I'm not here because I want to be, okay? My dad wants me here, so I'm here."
"Look here, princess—"
"Uh, Sensei, I need to show you something in the office." Miguel said.
The two of them bowed and though she didn't want to, Rory returned the gesture and waited for the two of them to return.
The two of them soon returned and the Sensei instructed her to take her shoes off and hop on the mat.
Rory slipped her shoes off and tossed her duffel bag next to her skateboard and met the Sensei halfway, in the middle of the room as Miguel stood of to the side.
"Ok, after further review, I've decide to allow female students. But if you wanna be in Cobra Kai, you can't act like a girl."
"What is that supposed to mean?" Rory asked.
"Don't give me that. You know, all emotional, loud, complain-y. Never letting you finish a sentence."
"I think you're the problem." Rory said, "The reason why people don't want to sleep with you anymore? Is because of shit like this. I'm 3rd degree black belt in Seaford. If I really wanted to I could kick your—"
"Quiet!" Sensei shouted. She would later learn his name to be Johnny Lawrence, "My student tells me that your dad is Jack Brewer. He's one of the top karate students in California."
"I guess so."
"3rd degree black belt?" Sensei Lawrence questioned, "Did you earn that?"
"I like think so."
Johnny turned, finally facing Rory, "You start tomorrow nepo."
"Nepo?"
"Yeah, your mom's a model, Layla Brewer, and your dad is Jack Brewer. You're a nepo-baby." Johnny said, "That's what the kids call it, right?"
Johnny didn't want for an answer and told Rory to come back tomorrow to see what she really had. Was she actually good at karate or were her family being easy on her because that was their daughter.
So Rory returned to the dojo the next day and faced Miguel.
"Mr. Diaz, show her everything you've learned." Sensei Lawrence said.
"Wait, wait." Miguel called, "I don't think this is right, Sensei."
"You don't think what's right?"
"She's a girl. I'm not gonna..."
"And?" Johnny questioned, "I thought you said women were equal to men."
"I did say that. I didn't mean it like that. I meant—"
"Then show her women are equal, and give her everything you got."
Rory sighed, "Give me everything you got."
"Are you ready, Ms. Brewer?"
"Yes, Sensei." She said. She took her stance and as soon as the words "fight!" left, Johnny lips, Rory went at it.
The fight wouldn't last long as Rory was able to pin Miguel down with a simple kick and she stepped back as he laid on the grown, saying something about his ribs.
Miguel was able to get a kick on Rory, but he had lost the fight nonetheless.
"Girl's a natural Cobra." Johnny said.
There was a commotion growing louder and louder outside and Sensei Lawrence excused himself and left Miguel in charge.
Rory held her hand down for Miguel to grab and he did so, moaning in pain.
"Sorry." She apologized.
"It's okay." He huffed, "You're good."
Johnny soon returned and cut class short. Rory grabbed her belongings and made her way home and on her way home, she felt good.
Karate reminded her of home and though they hadn't been in Reseda long, she wasn't complaining about her stay so far.
RORY, ONCE again found herself sitting with Miguel, Eli, and Demetri in the cafeteria.
A commotion was drawn when Samatha LaRusso, or Sam for short, shoved Kyler's lunch tray towards the ground.
A rumor had started that Sam had given Kyler a blowjob... handjob... whatever, during a movie and it seemed that the majority of the school had believed it.
"Hey, guys!" Kyler shouted, "You know that billboard with a big ass dick on it? I guess Sam takes after her dad."
"Hey, Kyler!" Miguel called, sitting his tray down and approaching the group, "Why don't you shut the hell up and stop being such an asshole?"
"What another beatdown, 'Rhea? I'm ready for your lame ass karate this time." Kyler said.
He kept pushing Miguel until he hit the table and finally threw a punch towards Miguel who was able to block the punch and twisting his arm.
Kyler processed to bodyslam Miguel into the round table before picking him up and slamming him onto another table.
Rory stood from her table and Belly grabbed onto her shoulder.
"Don't."
"It's not a fair fight."
"You're risking suspension over a guy you barely know?" Belly asked, "I know the Wasabi Code means a lot to you, but is it worth it?"
Rory glanced back and saw that Miguel had been able to push Kyler into a nearby table and Kyler's other friends joining in on the fight.
Rory gave her sister one last look before making her way over to stop Brucks from hitting Miguel with the lunch tray.
She kicked the tray from his hands causing it to fall on the floor.
Brucks watched the tray slide away and back over at Rory. He smiled, throwing a punch towards her. She was able to grab his fist, blocking the punch and taking his arm, twisting it, and finally kicking him in the back causing him to fly forward.
The fight finally ended when Miguel hit Kyler in the face with a lunch tray.
And their guidance counselor was quick to grab the two by the arm and drag them out of the cafeteria.
Sure, Rory would hear hell and back from her parents, but she completely kicked ass while she was being bitched out by her parents.
It was a win-win situation in her eyes.
