Chapter 9

The next day, the moment he stepped foot out of the house in the morning, she also got ready and left the house to her closest friend's house, Karima.

Karima has been amira's friend since boarding school. She lived in Borno with her parents before running away and came back to Abuja with the words that "she deserves a better life" and to her mentality, everyone living in Abuja is rich. When she reunited with amira in abuja, she lied to amira that she moved to abuja because she has gotten a job when she haven't even started university left alone doing her service program.

Amira was elite about their reunion. She was always together with karima, asking for advice. All her marital secrets karima knows about everything. All the cloak and dagger happening between amira and her husband, most of it, karima caused it because she was obviously jaundiced about amira's wealth. Most of amira's money goes to Karima saying that she would help her make muhsin to love her, and amira was genuinely dull-witted to understand the true colour of the person she calls her friend, Karima.

She stepped into Karima's apartment same time she was coming out together with a man from her bedroom. Amira stared at the both of them dumb founded. Karima hissed slightly and turned her gaze to him. "You should get going now before you get late," karima spoke, beaming at him. "I'll call you later," he assured before walking passed amira.

"Isn't this the guy you told me he's your uncle?" Amira inquired the moment he left. Karima sent daggers her way before hissing. "Yes he is, so?" She spat. "No, I don't mean anything, I was just asking," she said as she settled down on one of the couches. "Karima I'm so hungry, I didn't eat breakfast. What did you cook?" She asked and karima glared at her. "Why didn't you eat before coming? Coming from someone that has everything they wished to have," she spoke nonchalantly. Amira shrugged it off and still repeated her question. "I'm not going to cook, I have a naming ceremony to attend to," she responded and headed towards her room.

Amira quickly stood up and followed her in. "Whose naming ceremony are you doing to? I want to follow you. I am so tired of staying home all the time." Karima paused before she turned and gawked at amira. "You're going to follow who? No way, amira. This naming ceremony is for rich people... I'm not going with you, that's it," she declared before moving to her closet. She was obviously afraid Amira would dress up more classy than she would.

Amira moved closer to her as she continued begging her. "C'mon karima, if anyone has to follow you there then it should be me. Please, I am begging you." Amira is the type of ladies that has a special spot for events in their hearts. Anything concerning weddings, naming ceremonies, parties.... She will be there at any cost. "Okay fine but under one condition," she spoke. Amira knew it wouldn't end well when karima said that but she eagerly asked. "You will borrow me your golden earrings, necklace, bangles and also the ring to wear," she spoke as she smirked.

Amira hesitated before she slowly nodded. "Okay, I will give you but you have to be careful with it, Muhsin would not be happy if anything happens to that gold because his mother gave it to me and it costs a lot." Karima's eyes widened before it narrowed as she smiled.

She had her bath and got dressed before they went to amira's house. She changed into something more dramatic and gave karima the set of gold like she wanted before they left. It was passed Dhuhr prayer when they arrived at the massive house filled with elegant guests.

Karima walked majestically into the house as amira followed her behind. They entered the house to the woman's room. Her mood changed a little when her eyes landed on Karima. Her husband had warned her countless times about karima coming anywhere near his house. She hoped he didn't see her right from the gate.

"Ka-karima, you're welcome. Ple-please sit," she ushered them into her room even though people kept peering at their dressing especially karima that had to add chewing gum to the show. Karima settled down as amira did. "Halima, this is my friend Amira. She wanted to come along with me, hope that won't be a problem." Halima shook her head as she swallowed hard. "How can that be a problem. Please excuse me, I'll send someone to bring you food." She stepped out of the room and left them with the rest of her friends and family.

Amira looked around the spontaneous room and nodded, she was impressed. Not that hers wasn't as fancy as that but it was bigger than hers, bed was also bigger than hers and by the looks of the jewellery halima was wearing, it was pure gold.

After few moment of waiting, halima came back together with someone holding a tray of goodies and soon, they dig in. "Where did you meet this woman. Her husband is definitely rich," amira whispered to karima after they were done eating. Karima glared at her and hiss. "At least wait till we're out! Not when we're in her house," she whisper-yelled and turned her head back to her phone.

All the women stood up after the announcement that the naming ceremony has started outside the house. They all moved out to were the canopies were set outside the huge compound of the house.

They settled down as karima admired the one man she came to see from afar. Halima's husband, her to die for crush. She wasn't just crushing, she was in love with him.

She heaved a distressful sigh and slumped in her seat. She remembered the first day she saw him a year ago like it happened just yesterday. She went to a spa, owned by Halima. When karima realized he was Halima's husband and he visited her at the spa almost everyday, she forcefully became friends with Halima even though her husband disliked Karima's behaviours and attitude.

She watched him as he fetched his phone from his pocket before he hurriedly stepped out of the place to receive the call.

"Salamu alaikum, good afternoon, sir." He spoke courteously. "Wa'alaikumus Salam, Anwar, how's the naming ceremony?" Muhsin asked him. "Alhamdulillah sir, everything is going great."

"Masha Allah. I am very sorry to interrupt your holiday but I need you at the office right away, we have a meeting in thirty minutes and my manager has to be there and also, we will be checking the new branch of the company to see how the construction is going." Muhsin explained and without hesitation, Anwar responded to his request without having a second thought. Muhsin changed his life by making him his manager, that, he would never forget Muhsin for being part of his success.

He informed his wife halima before leaving to the company. He met his boss, Muhsin in the reception, speaking with some workers before they moved to the hall where the meeting would hold.

After the meeting, Muhsin and his trusted friend which happens to be his architect together with his manager, Anwar left to his new branch a bit far away from his first branch. "Muhsin, by now you're supposed to have a driver or move around with escorts. You're opening two new branches at once and you think people won't notice you. Please, it's high time you start thinking about your security." Muhsin smiled a little as he focused his eyes on driving. "I really don't fancy that much attention, Muhammad. I prefer doing my things alone. And besides, what's more powerful than Du'a? Allah is with me, always, I believe that so don't worry about having any escort or driver, maybe in the nearest future but I'm still young." He explained. Muhammad knowing muhsin would never change his mind on what he has said, he let him be.

They left the event two hours later when karima realized Anwar wasn't coming back. "Where are we going to now?" Amira asked when she realized that Karima wasn't following the way home with them. She was the one driving them even though it was Amira's car. "I want to go see my aunt at Apo. She promised to give me some money. We won't take long, I know you're afraid of your husband because you know you didn't ask for permission before going out," karima snarled and laughed at amira's facial expression.

Thirty minutes later, they were at the place karima told her about. "This is where she lives?" Amira asked as her heart pounded against her chest. If she could remember Muhsin told her his new company was around that place and behold, she saw the new construction site. The sign board for the new company was there.

Karima ignored her question and parked the car by the house. The men there stared at them before taking their eyes off when they saw the kind of dressing they did. It suited the kind of house they were going to enter.

Amira followed her into the house filled with women from different tribe and complexion. They didn't look anything like good women. Karima walked majestically into the woman's room and the ladies their glared at them. Amira wondered why. She shrugged her shoulders and followed karima in.

"Hajja Meena, why haven't you been picking my calls? And you knew I was going to ask about my money." The woman called Hajja Meena hissed annoyingly and sat back down on her sofa. "I was bathing when you called and right now I am going out and it's cause of your money. You shouldn't have came because I was coming to give you your money tomorrow morning," she spat nonchalantly as she stood up again.

She started walking outside but Karima held her arm. "What do you mean?" She questioned furiously as she pushed her back. "If you don't let go of me, this your innocent friend will know whatever you're hiding," she barked and karima quickly let go of her arm. Amira was far deep in her thoughts, not knowing what they were saying. She sighed hoping Muhsin wasn't back home. She hissed softly knowing he never comes back early. She checked her wrist watch, it was almost asr time.

"Amira let's go," she muttered and walked out of the untidy living room. Amira did as she was told and they left the house. Her heart did a triple flip as if it was coming out of her mouth. She could feel her heart beating in her throat when their eyes met. Karima paused a bit when her eyes landed on Anwar, halima's husband. But what she didn't know was the other man was Amira's husband which happens to be Anwar's boss. All her mind was on Anwar.

Amira quickly pushed karima into the car as she collected the car keys to drive. He watched them as they drove away in a high speed. Muhsin heaved a sigh and turned his attention back to what the architect was saying.

"What the hell is wrong with you amira? What was the meaning of that?" She asked infuriated. She wasn't done checking him out when amira pushed her into the car. "Didn't you see my husband was there? Oh ya Allah, I know I am in deep trouble," she muttered, horror stricken.

"Oh," she muttered. She could swear she knew the other man but she never expected him to be amira's husband. "So your husband is that other man's boss?" She asked instead. "Wha- which man? What are you even talking about, karima? I told you I'm in trouble and you're asking about some other man?" She groaned. "I never asked you to follow me, you were the one that begged me so don't you even dare yell at me."

Amira hissed and concentrated on driving. She tapped her hand on the steering wheel as she thought of million excuses to give him. She dropped karima off at her apartment before leaving. She thought of going home to her mother but that would only put her in more trouble.

She got home and entered the living room before she started pacing back and forth. She removed her veil, head-tie and jewellery. She was about the remove her bracelet when she remembered her gold with karima. She groaned and hissed as she fetched her phone from her handbag. She dialled her number but she never picked till she called again. "What?" She spat. "Karima, my gold. I need it now," she answered, her heart filled with dismayed. She hissed, "oh, and I am about to head out now. I can't wait for you. You can come get it tomorrow morning because I am not coming back anytime soon and I know your husband will not allow you to go out late in the night." She cut the call after that.

Amira stared at the phone in awe when she realized that karima has ended the call. She hissed and threw the phone on the couch. That wasn't the problem now. She had bigger one in front of her.

Back in the construction sight, Muhammad stopped talking when he realized muhsin's attention were on the two women that just left in the car. "I don't advise you to go anywhere near those women," he reasoned with him. Muhsin looked at him, waiting for more explanation about what he meant. "You see that house," he muttered pointing at the house karima and his wife came out of. "The owner of the house is a prostitute. And she keeps other prostitutes in her house." He listened to Muhammad as he stared at the well built mansion. He actually thought it was owned by a politician or a business man or just someone wealthy.

He shrugged of the thought and focused on what actually brought him there. He would deal with her when he gets home.

Later in the night, on his way home from Yusuf's house, he thought of what exactly brought his wife to that house. He couldn't think of amira being one of them. He gives her everything she wanted. She had her own cars. Just what was she looking for there? He hissed slightly when remembered who he saw her with. The woman he had warned her multiple times about.

He stepped out the car the moment he parked it at the parking lot. He walked into the house to the living room. No one was there except the working TV. He looked at the wall clock, it was passed 10pm. He turned off the TV and turned off the lights before heading to his room.

He had his bath and rest a bit before stepping out of his room to her room. He slowly opened the door with the thought she might lock it. He met her pacing around the room, panicky. She stood still when their eyes met. He could see the fear In her eyes but she cleared her throat and furrowed her brows acting all brave.
