Winter 2017

December 2017

Arriving on the floor she was greeted with the staff and workers at Glamour. She knew this day would be long. So she just began to smile and greet each one of them politely.

"Your highness, Janet O'Connor editor in chief of Glamour." spoke the woman in front of her, as they both shook hands.

"Hello, I'm Adrienne." She said.

"If you could wait here I'll get Rachel, who will assist you on details for your shoot." the woman walked off to a nearby office.

Within seconds walked out women who looked like she was in her early twenties, her brown eyes were filled with joy as she approached her.

"Your highness, It's an honor to meet you I'm Rachel Kingman, editor of photography." she shook her hand and curtseyed.

"Oh there's no need for that, please call me Adrienne." Adrienne said as she shook her hand back softly.

"Well alright then, if you mind I'll go over the details behind your photo shoot, if you could follow me this way." she walked ahead to the office she came out of. Adrienne followed and sat across from her with Paul on her side.

"Your photo shoot will be you in dresses, and a interview video of you talking about your family and humanitarian work and pregnancy too, and we have about fifteen minutes before it starts." she says.

I follow her to this dressing room and right away. They get started on hair and makeup.

"Okay ready let's get started."

The assistant started playing music.

"Can you look into the camera for me, your highness?"

"Can you lay on the bed?"

"Yes, brilliant."

"Time for the next look shoot." The photographer yelled.

I was rushed to hair and make up.

"Can you look away from the camera?"

"Gorgeous!"

"Yes, love it."

"I think we've found our cover." Rachel said.

"That's a wrap. Let's move on to the interview."

RK: "How do you feel about being a mother?"

"Personally, becoming a mother has been such a rewarding and wonderful experience. However, at times it has also been a huge challenge, Even for me, who has support at home that most mothers do not. Nothing can really prepare you for the sheer, overwhelming experience of what it means to become a mother. It's full of complex emotions of joy, exhaustion, love, and worry, all mixed together."

RK: "How does it feel during those first few months with a newborn child?"

"There is no rule book, no right or wrong; you just have to make it up and do the very best you can to care for your family, For many mothers, myself included, this can at times lead to a lack of confidence and feelings of ignorance. Sadly, for some mothers, this experience can be made so much harder due to challenges with our very mental health."

RK: "What is the importance of destigmatizing mental health, in particular, when it comes to new parents."

"If any of us caught a fever during pregnancy, we would seek advice and support from a doctor, Getting help with our mental health is no different - our children need us to look after ourselves and get the support we need."

RK: "How was your pregnancy with Princess Charlotte different from first and current pregancy?"

"It's very special having a new little girl...I feel very, very lucky that George has got a little sister, and now this little one will have a big sister. The Queen was really thrilled that William and I were having a little girl, and I think as soon as we came back here to Kensington she was one of our first visitors here. My pregnancy with Charlotte was the hardest but it was all worth it."

RK: "How is your relationship with the queen?"

"I remember first public appearance with my grandma-in-law, I went without William, so I was rather apprehensive about that. I think there is a real art to walkabouts. Everyone teases me in the family that I spend far too long chatting. So I think I've still got to learn a little bit more and to pick up a few more tips I suppose. She was very supportive. The fact she took the time to make sure that I was happy and looked after for that particular occasion, which probably in everything that she's doing is a very small element, it shows just how caring she is really. She's been very generous in not being forceful at all and in any of her views, but I feel she's been there, a gentle guidance really for me."

RK: "So you're not self-conscious as a pregnant person?"

"I'm not embarrassed of my body. I'm at my best when I'm pregnant. It's such an amazing feeling, the transformation that your body goes through. There's something about that that's so empowering and beautiful and I just really embrace it. As women, our whole lives we control what our weight is by what we're eating and how we're working out and what dresses we feel good in, our fat jeans and our skinny jeans. When you're pregnant there should only be one concern and that's, Am I healthy and am I doing the best job of being this kid's parent already by taking as good care of myself as possible? There's just something very freeing about that. That's why I feel really good pregnant."

RK: "Your due date's coming up. How are you doing?"

"I'm feeling good. Excited. We're ready to be a family of five."

RK: "Any thoughts as to whether it'll be a boy or a girl?"

"I'm excited to find out!"

RK: "Do you have any tips for soon-to-be moms?"

"It is fun; it does take your mind off the bigger changes that happen during pregnancy-to your body, emotions and hormones. If you can just really run around as much as possible."

RK: "What does your eldest child likes to watch on TV?"

"He quite likes the Lion King, we've watched that a few times. He's watched Octonauts and tends to watch quite a lot of things. He has watched some Lego movies as well, he's watched a lot of things like that. Trying to keep him off the television is hard work!"
