VI
Class 1-A's representative ended up being Iida.
'If Midoriya says he's fine with his decision, then I'm all in!' shouted Kirishima. (Name) blinked adorably and him and sent him a smile in agreement. Iida was very suitable for the role, after all.
'I think so too,' added (Name), her heart-throbbing smile never wavering. She turned away before she could see Kirishima's red face. A very very very cute girl just talked to him. I need to chill! Being flustered like this ain't manly!
Todoroki, who sat behind (Name), stared at their interaction.
It was that girl again. The one who stared at him for a bit too long at the physical test, and didn't even bother to hide it. She was powerful, although she doesn't look it. In his mind, she looks more like the bunny in fairy tales that gets eaten by the wolf.
But that makes her even more of a rival. Aside from the temperamental guy and Green over there, she could be another large obstacle in his path to becoming the number one hero. Without his father's stupid quirk.
Aizawa chose to walk in right then and cleared his throat to get everyone's attention.
'Quiet, class,' he commanded. The students' chatter hushed as soon as they saw the red glow in Aizawa's eyes. 'For your heroics class today, we will be doing rescue training with three teachers, including myself.'
(Name) blinked inquisitively. Three teachers? So they increased the number as a safety precaution?
Hm. Would that really be enough for what might be happening?
The phone call with Ciel came back to her. He had warned her about something coming, which usually meant it was not good, dangerous, inevitable, or all of the above.
Usually, they would take their heroics class with All Might. Who could the other teacher be?
A rescue pro-hero?
(Name) crinkled her nose up, deep in thought. Kirishima awed at her cute pout and Todoroki frowned at her back. He was trying to make sense of what she could be so deep in thought about. A new training schedule? Maybe she was nervous about the rescue training. That would actually make sense. With the shockwaves that she makes when she jumps, she could seriously injure someone.
Wait, no.
Why was he even worried about that airheaded stranger in the first place--
'Argh--' Todoroki unknowingly let out a small, almost unheard, frustrated groan. He closed his eyes for a bit, trying to stop himself from thinking about her. Honestly, he'd never seen anything as cute as her--
ARGH STOP!
Okay. Think of other things. Cold soba. Training at home to be the number one hero. Using just his ice to spite his ugly, flaming trashcan of a father.
It was working. He was slowly retreating back to being the original, cold Todoroki. Good. He slowly opened his eyes when he found himself relieved of any more weird thoughts.
That came right back at him once he saw a pair of wide eyes staring curiously at him. He almost flung himself back into the wall out of startlement, but he controlled himself and clung onto his passive poker face.
(Name) was staring at him, this time much closer and still unabashed. She tilted her head to the side cutely, asking him, 'Todoroki, right? Are you okay?'
He bit his tongue and spat out, 'I'm fine. How I feel is none of your business anyway.'
'Oh,' she said, her eyes still wide with innocent concern. 'Well, of course, it's not my business. But I still worry, you know.'
Worry? Why would she worry? And about me, a person who she's never talked to before now?
Why?
'Well, stop,' he said, not a sliver of empathy in his tone. 'I don't care if you're wasting your time, but if you're not taking this competition seriously, then you're not fit to be in this class.'
'...' (Name) watched, her concern still lingering as she watched him leave the room. The others have been dismissed long ago, and she was about to follow when she saw his eyes.
Don't get her wrong-- his eyes were very pretty. Beautiful, majestic even.
But the emotion she saw him hide underneath...
It was so sad and lonely. Something was bugging him and he should let someone know before it gets worse. His words play again in her head.
'I'm fine.'
An obvious lie, given the way he was so defensive about it. But if he won't let her help, then what was she suppose to do?
Toshi-nii... what should I do?
.oOOo.
PRIIIT!
Iida blew on his whistle loudly, yelling orders and waving his hands in chopping motions fervently.
'Wow, Iida's taking this class rep thing really seriously.'
'Yeah.'
A bit too seriously. Why do we need a whistle when we're just boarding a bus?
'EVERYONE! LINE UP IN PAIRS ACCORDING TO YOUR SEATING ARRANGEMENTS AND BOARD THE BUS QUIETLY!' Iida yelled, contradicting himself on the 'quiet' part. The class reluctantly got into formation and got on.
The vehicle did not look like what Iida thought it would on the inside.
'I didn't take into consideration that it might be this type of bus!' he lamented, defeated by the bus.
'Iida, just chill out.'
The cus was chattering happily away.
'Midoriya,' called out Asui.
'Y-Yes? Asui, right?' he replied. He was sweating again, having still not being used to talking to girls.
'Call me Tsu,' she clipped. 'I always say what's on my mind, so let me just say that your quirk resembles All Might's by a lot.'
'W-What?! A-ALL MIGHT? AAHH, U-UH...' came the oh-so-sensical reaction to Asui's proclamation. Midoriya was freaking out on the inside, not sure what to say, not sure how to say what he wanted to say if he knew what to say, and not sure if he could say what he wanted to say if he knew what to say. Okay, that train of thought did not help this broccoli's scrambled mind. Someone help him.
'Yeah, but All Might doesn't break his bones ever time he uses his quirk!' piped in Kirishima. Thank the lords for his interference. If not for him, Midoriya was sure he would melt in a puddle of confusion and panic.
'Although I'm jealous of you, bro,' Kirishima continued, now turning to Midoriya. 'You have a simple augmenting quirk that you can do flashy moves with, whereas my quirk is super manly and all, but it really isn't flashy enough.'
He demonstrated by hardening his forearm and frowning at it. Midoriya shook his head, protesting, 'N-No way! I think your quirk is great!'
'Really?'
'Yeah!'
Fluffy classmate bonding time.
(Name) sat next to an asleep Todoroki. She was very tempted to brush his hair out of his face but tried to refrain herself. She didn't want to make him uncomfortable.
'I agree with Izuku!' (Name) smiled, joining in with the conversation. The people around her, aside from Todoroki, shielded their eyes from the blinding light that was her kawaii-ness.
'Well, if we're talking about flashy and powerful, the top in the class has got to be Todoroki and Bakugou!'
Asui spoke up again, in her monotone voice, 'But Bakugou has really bad anger issues so he won't be very popular. No one will like that scowl.'
'THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT, HUH??' Bakugou growled. 'I'LL BE POPULAR!'
'Not really, dude, considering your personality, which is like hot garbage mixed with toxic trash.'
In the near front of the bus, Bakugou lost it at the insult, 'WHAT KIND OF SHITTY VOCABULARY IS THAT?? COME HERE, I'LL SHOVE SOME SENSE DOWN YOUR SORRY THROAT, YOU LOUSY DUNCE!!'
'Kaminari, that was not called for,' (Name) scolded lightly, unconsciously pouting at him. At the absolutely adorable sight, Kaminari could do nothing but slowly melt from the inside. She was too cute. Too precious. Omg.
'Aw, (Name)! You're too nice! Stop making our hearts throb from cuteness overload!' Ashido squealed, hugging (Name)'s arm excitedly.
Meanwhile, Bakugou was pissed again. For a different reason this time.
Why the hell are they all freaking out over some bunny extra?
And to think of their disrespect to him! He was the face of the next number one hero! They should be bowing down to him and kissing his feet right now, but instead, they were awed by some girl who clearly doesn't know her place.
It irritated him to no ends. Bakugou made sure he was going to destroy everyone in their training and force them to respect him. That'll open their eyes for sure.
'Settle down,' Aizawa cut in, projecting his voice louder than normal so that the students could hear it over their chatter. 'We're here.'
The students climbed out and simultaneously awed at the structure in front of them. It was in the shape of a dome, with metallic lines running in identical vertical and horizontal lines. Glass panes filled the squares made by the metallic lines. The building loomed and the sun reflecting off the glass made it look magnificent in the students' eyes.
'Welcome!' came a voice. (Name) grinned when she spotted Thirteen, the hero specialised for rescue using their Black Hole quirk. They were definitely admirable. Her point was proven when she saw some classmates blatantly fangirl and fanboy about them.
'This is the Unforeseen Simulation Joint! In other words, the USJ!' they said, gesturing their hands proudly at the sight before them. 'It is made to copy nearly every possible disaster, from floods to fires to landslides!'
Thirteen guided the class into the building and hid their smugness at the sight of the student's awe. They then gave a speech about quirks and how the true meanings of the quirks come from the users who can find ways to use it for justice.
(Name) had tuned out of the conversation as soon as she walked inside the USJ. The simulations were impressive, of course, but something weird was in the air. Not to mention how she saw Aizawa and Thirteen have a hushed conversation where Thirteen lifted three fingers. Okay? Weird.
The phone call was still bothering her. And her rabbit instincts were on high alert. If (Name) had an alarm in her head, then it would be beeping like crazy right about now.
'Guess we'll have to start without him then,' Aizawa sighed.
Him? Who?
All Might? Why was he not here yet? Did something happen?
(Name) didn't have much time to worry about that, though. Her ears pricked up and she stood, more alert than ever when the lights started to blink off around them. Her senses drew her attention to the fountain that was also flickering with the lights. Her nose scrunched slightly. She did not move, staying silent and concentrating. There were smells. Weird smells. Smells that did not come from anyone in her class.
In front of the fountain, (Name) saw a familiar purple mist appear. The mist grew in size and let figures step through from it.
No.
She recognised the person at the centre of the group. That was Crusty, the guy who intruded onto UA premises. She swivelled around, slightly frustrated when she saw no one else pay attention to the chaos brewing right in front of them.
'Mr Aizawa, look!' cried (Name). 'Near the fountain! Those are...'
The class watched as their teacher tensed.
'VILLAINS!'
.oOOo.
