Chapter 7
Here's a late birthday gift from me to you, hope you enjoy :)
To make things clear, Y/n did not care for Terra. She thought the earth master was a decent teammate with a bad attitude but other than that, Y/n had nothing in common with her. They never spoke outside of missions and even then it was brief interactions only to ensure the team was winning. Kor'i insisted Y/n help set up for Terra's party and Dick reminded her Damian had texted him saying he went solo. But it didn't make sense.
Why would he tell Richard and not me?
Y/n groaned to herself as she finished blowing up some balloons. Too much was on her mind and she didn't know how to express it.
I need a nap.
Raven tapped her shoulder, asking if Y/n would like to come with her and get Terra. Y/n remembered Terra flying in from earlier and nodded, letting a balloon go watching it float.
The two girls walked in silence through the hallways. Unlike Terra, Y/n got along with Raven and considered her more than a teammate. She was a friend, a distant one, but a friend nonetheless. Surprisingly the two had more in common than she thought and they both had their fair share of demons in their pasts.
"You seem tense," Raven ended the silent walk.
Y/n let go of her clenched jaw and sighed. "I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow."
"For your implant?"
Y/n subconsciously rubbed at the base of her spine, nodding. "Yeah, I'm past my check up and they want to make sure everything is still working properly. Considering our line of work I figured I shouldn't wait any longer." Her half smile fell, she stopped suddenly and shivered.
"Y/n, are you alright?" Raven placed her hand on her friend's shoulder to steady her.
"I'm fine. I'm gonna go back and grab my sweater, it's cold. You go get Terra," Y/n turned around and began walking to her room.
Looking back to make sure Raven was out of sight, she gripped onto the wall for support as she stumbled into her room. Y/n fell onto the floor and pressed her back to the wall, still shaking and focusing on her legs. Her left one wasn't shaking. Her eyes widened and filled with worried tears.
No no no...
She poked her thigh. Nothing, she felt nothing. Her breath hitched as she hit her thigh, praying for some reaction. She moved down to her shin, whacking it with her fist, silently begging for the pain. If she could feel her leg hurt that was something, proof her leg wasn't damaged. But nothing was happening.
Y/n bit her lip to keep it from wobbling, she looked up and blinked back the tears. She rested her head against the wall and closed her eyes, calming her breath and focusing. It would be okay, it's happened before.
Not this bad though.
She opened her eyes and looked down again. She took out her phone and set it beside her. Then she brought her left foot and placed it onto her lap and took her shoe off. Taking the phone and dragging the corner of it up the bottom of her foot, Y/n watched. She did it again and sighed in relief. Her big toe twitched slightly. She was able to move her leg, just not feel it at the moment. Better than nothing.
Y/n crawled next to her bed and reached under, grabbing the crutch she hid. Only about half the team, mainly Dick and Kor'i knew about her problem. She kept it from Damian, not knowing how he would react. She had given him such a hard time when she became paralyzed, Y/n didn't want to risk anything by telling him her leg wasn't functioning properly. But he was "going solo" so she wouldn't have to worry about him finding out right now.
Y/n hoisted herself up onto the crutch, holding it under her left armpit. She had gotten used to the feeling, it was about the fifth time she had to use it. While it was a little difficult to walk with, she'd rather use a crutch than a wheelchair.
Y/n slipped on her shoe and left her room, closing the door. She heard voices from the kitchen.
Guess the party started.
Y/n went to the kitchen to see everyone dancing. Gar was taking pictures of the group as they ate cake and danced to some pop song Y/n didn't know. She opted to sit down and watch. She would just fall down if she tried to dance right now. Gar got in her face with the camera, she pushed him away, thankful he didn't ask about the crutch. Or maybe he didn't notice. He wasn't the most observant Teen Titan.
Someone sat next to her, Y/n didn't have to look to know who it was.
"You don't have your sweater," Raven noted as she took a bite of her cake.
"I warmed up," Y/n gripped the handle of the crutch.
Raven must have noticed and didn't bother to ask any more questions. She simply rested her pale hand on Y/n's shoulder then went back to the party. Y/n turned back to the table to fiddle with her empty cup. She pulled out her phone to refresh her messages. Damian still hasn't contacted her. Y/n clenched her jaw again and closed her eyes.
"You shouldn't do that," her best friend sat down beside her. "Heard it's bad for your teeth," he points to his own jaw. Y/n relaxes and sits up, still not bothering to talk. Dick went quiet and looked down at the crutch. "It happened again." It was a statement, not a question.
"It's getting worse, Richard," Y/n didn't look at him.
He instantly rested his hand on her back, rubbing soothing circles. "Hey, don't talk like that. Your doc said they just had to do a check up and some x-rays. You're going to be fine."
Y/n bit the inside of her cheek and nodded. She was going to be fine. She had to be fine. Y/n began to respond when a beeping interrupted the party.
"The computer is done, the one with Blood's files," Dick announced trying to help Y/n stand up. She shrugged off his hand, not wanting help.
The party stopped and everyone made their way to the computer room. The computer voice announced the file was finished. Apparently one of the scientists working for Blood disappeared and was pronounced dead but his personal laboratory was still being paid for by one of Blood's holding companies.
"The Titans should look into this," Kor'i said. Everyone nodded and went to put on their suits but Y/n was stopped.
"What the hell, Richard?" Y/n turned around and frowned at him.
"Y/n, you're hurt. I think you should sit this one out."
Y/n scoffed and swatted his hand away. "Last time I checked you weren't the leader of this group. I can suck it up and walk fine."
"You're on crutches you can't-"
"Dick may not be the leader but I am," the red head walked up to her. "I am ordering you to stay here and recover. You would only be a liability to the team. We cannot afford to wait for you to catch up." Y/n stared up at her with wide, upset eyes. "If you disobey you will be benched." She turned to Dick and asked if she used that phrase correctly.
"This is already my last case, you want me to just give up?"
"No, we want you to be safe. We have to leave, Y/n you can be on comms if you want. If not, rest," Dick and Kor'i left and Y/n was alone.
