Chapter 4: Tying The Knots
She groaned, blinking as a bright light practically blinded her. She looked around her surroundings, suddenly realizing that she was tied to a chair. She attempted to escape, but gave up. She rolled her eyes, turning her head to see Rogue.
"Morning, sunshine!" He joked, smiling widely. He didn't wear his coat this time, his hair tied into a bun. His sleeves were rolled up slightly, folded neatly.
"Oh, great. Sailor Boy! Great to see you again," she rolled her eyes, irritated at the sight of him. Just then, she realized that her sling bag wasn't in sight, turning in every direction just to spot it.
"Im guessing you're looking for this?" as if performing magic, he held the sling that appeared out of nowhere. He smirked, the only light from his office on the lady, who was in disbelief.
She laughed. "You pirates really live up to your piracy stuff."
"Technically not, but close," he shrugged, holding a smile. He sat down on his chair, slouching as he examined her sling bag. Suddenly, his expression changed after a sigh, his voice becoming serious in a slight threatening way. "So, tell me. What do you know?"
"I know that you're a complete loner, considering that you don't even have a single photo of anyone in this place," she remarked, a brow raised with a blank expression.
Rogue took a quick glance around the room, pretending to think she was wrong. He rolled his eyes. "Well, I actually do have one photo. But you can't find it anywhere, so you're wrong." He scoffed.
"Sure," she laughed, leaning back towards the chair more, attempting to cut the rope tying her wrists from behind her.
"Let's change the subject shall we?" Rogue suggested, tempting to tamper with her sling bag.
"Yeah, continue to waste your time on me!" She laughed, almost nervously as she heard a tiny rip from the rope. She panicked, wondering if he heard it.
"Perfect!" He replied, hanging the sling bag on a rack. He got off his chair, pacing around. "First things first... who is this new guest of ours?"
"Sorry Sailor Boy," she raised her shoulders, pursing her lips. "I'm afraid I can't tell you. It's just not how this game is played."
"That's funny... I don't remember this being a game!" His shoulders rose up and down with every exclamation, his eyes fixed on her now.
"Since you can't answer the first question, I'll ask you another one. Who do you work for?"
"My name's Nira," she interrupted, refusing to mention her boss's name.
Rogue groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Okay, okay. Clearly we're not in an agreement here."
"Oh, you only got that now?" Nira remarked, rolling her eyes, the rope already about to fully rip. She grinned.
A knock emitted from the door. Rogue sighed, still pinching himself. "Come in,"
"Captain, we have a situation," Tris came out of the door, glancing at them both. Rogue looked at him, gesturing towards the lady on the chair.
"Apparently, we do!" Rogue gritted his teeth to which Nira laughed at. Tris laughed nervously. "Well the thing is-... there's another group of pirates?"
"What?" He stood up straight, his attention towards Tris, his eyes widened.
Tris fully opened the door, a pirate ship approaching. Rogue sighed and put on his coat, grabbing his sword and putting on Nira's sling bag to make sure she doesn't take it back. Nira rolled her eyes, muttering. "Of course."
Rogue reached for the door, stopping as he turned back to her. "You best stay here. We are not done with this conversation."
"Aye aye Captain," she mocked, leaning back.
Rogue shook his head, exiting the room as he ran up to the crew, watching as the pirate ship approached theirs. "What happened?"
"It was training hour until a canon ball flew and made a hole through our ship. Luckily it didn't cause too much damage," Lee replied, turning to the hole from a wall of their ship. Rogue began to fold his long sleeves up to his wrists, sighing.
"Gather everyone up, prepare yourselves as well. They may not be as friendly," he looked up at Lee, nodding.
Kilo prepared the canons, Peri armed herself just as Kilo trained her. James was behind the wheel, eyeing a possible exit route. Tris and Lee had a sword in hand, both surrounding the rest.
Just as the other ship stopped right beside theirs, a bridge came down between them, creating a path to both bridges. A pair of boots could be heard against the wooden bridge, a low chuckle alarming them.
Rogue looked up, seeing a lady with red hair and green eyes. Her skin a light tan. She wore an actual pirate hat with a feather complimenting it. She laughed, seeing the sling bag around Rogue's torso. She held a sword that was barely stained with blood.
"The name's Captain Frida, and you have something of mine," she held the sword up to the bag's strap, lifting the bag up slowly. "I'd like to have it back please."
"Oh no no, I'm gonna have to say that you have the wrong captain," Rogue replied, faking a smile as he gently and slowly pushed her sword away. "Besides, we mean no harm."
"Apparently, we do," she threatened, about to strike at him with her sword, Peri stepping in with her own sword to stop her. Frida gritted her teeth, attempting to push further down. Peri held her ground, turning to Rogue. "Go!"
Rogue was hesitant and saw the seriousness in her eyes. After negotiating with himself, he nodded and ran away to his office, looking for Nira. "You better explain to me what's in this bag or—!" When he turned the chair she was sitting in, she was replaced with a sack of potatoes, a silly face drawn onto it. He groaned. "Nira!"
"I don't know what you see in him," Frida pulled away, her grip on her sword tighter than ever. Peri backed away as well, her eyes focused on the lady. She refused to talk back, only action. As they stared each other down, the rest of Frida's crew entered their ship, attacking Tris and Lee.
James attempted to drive their boat away, but a member of Frida's crew hooked their ships together, never parting.
"This is clearly not worth your time," Frida continued, both of them moving in a circle. Peri still refused to break, sticking to her gut and staying strong. She could only think about Rogue's safety and happiness.
"He isn't either." Frida added, lowering her sword.
She watched as Frida approached her, the sword remaining low. She looked into Peri's eyes, seeing how lost they were. She searched her pockets, pulling out the photograph of Rogue that she had lost to her.
Peri stared down at it, dropping her sword.
"I was exactly like you; head over heels for a man that was out of my league. They don't have time for us. And you shouldn't waste your time on them," Frida watched as Peri took the photograph, missing it ever so dearly. "Be your own woman. Don't make the same mistake I made."
Frida began to whisper, each word expressed with a smile. "I want you to remember that." Peri looked up at her with eyes of shock and sorrow.
Peri hissed as Frida pierced through her side with her sword. Peri completely dropped her weapon, but kept her grip on the photograph tight.
Tris, barely dodging an attack, saw the two. "PERI!" He screamed, finishing off one of Frida's crew and rushed over to Peri.
Frida's sword could be seen from the other side of Peri, pulling it away with satisfaction. She watched as Peri fell to the floor with a thud that almost silenced the entire fight. Everyone stopped, watching as Peri's blood began to spread ever so slightly.
"Boys!" Frida called, her crew turning their heads to her. "Leave these be. I want their Captain. And that bag."
"Yes Captain!" They replied in unison, running off to find Rogue.
Lee watched as the crew member he was fighting with left, groaning. "Already?"
Frida walked back to her ship, taking one last look at Peri as she huddled on the floor.
Tris kneeled down next to Peri, calling out to Lee. Lee looked down at her, telling Tris to carry her to a more comfortable area.
"Peri?" voices could be heard from Peri's perspective, her vision blurry once again. Lee advised her to breathe, working his way to take care of her. Kilo began to panic, but kept calm and bottled up her worries. She held Peri's hand. "We love you, Peri."
Frida's last words to Peri echoed in her head.
"I want you to remember that."
