TAKE XXXI- Reflection

TAKE XXXI.

“Kazuto, the plane crash happened nearly two months ago. Your Mum and Dad passed away. You are here because you were kidnapped.”

I sighed inwardly and bit my lower lip as we; Shiori and I, walked towards the departure section of the airport guided by Shiori. She was holding my hand tightly. So what happened actually before the ‘kidnapping’? There’s something empty in my heart like a big, huge space. The feeling is similar to as if something really important had taken place in it before.

“Kazuto, your friends are here to see you.” Shiori spoke.

Someone hugged me. “Kazuto.” A male voice said.

“Reo?” I whispered. He sniffed and patted my back as I hugged him back.

“Heichou.” A voice said and I turned my head towards the source of the voice. “You might not recognize me but I am Shiza Aki. I’m your student in soccer. You were—no, you are our captain. And I’m acting as the representative of Rakuzan Soccer Club, is here to announce that we will train hard for Winter Cup, we’ll win it, we’ll go to the nationals, we’ll make you proud. And we will wait for you. Even if it means our life.” He continued.

A drop of tear fell and I smiled. “Thank you. I’ll try my best to remember.”

“Kazu-chan. I’m Hayama Kotarou. I want to thank you for being my best friend. If you remember, that day when I told you to be my main character for my fanfiction, now, the book reached 20 million of reads and 15 million of votes. You were contributing too so I want to thank you.” Another voice said.

“Thank you, Hayama-san. Ah, no, maybe I called you Kotarou before.” I said.

“You did.” And then a hand patted my shoulder and hugged me gently.

Another guy spoke. “Kazuto-san, I’m Nebuya Eikichi. We may not communicate so much before but you were my good friend. I’m glad you were there. Thank you.”

    I nodded. “Thank you, Eikichi.”

My heart clenched. It hurts so much when people had to introduce themselves, hoping I might remember them.

Someone hugged me real tight and I heard a sob. “Kazu-chan, I can’t believe you did this to me. I’m Miyagi Shiro, your first girl friend in Rakuzan. We met when I bumped into you in front of your classroom. You worked in a bakery and I thought you were a guy and for one whole month, I was in love with you.” She paused to laugh then sobbed again. “Thank you, Kazu-chan. I love you and I’ll wait for you. Come back faster, okay?”

I nodded my head and she released me. “Thank you Shiro.” I said. Someone came and hugged me again. Her fragrance is strong.

“Kazuto-san, you’re really mean. How come you dare to leave me like this! So that’s why, I’ll wait for you and please come back. I’m Inoue Eru.” The girl said.

“Thank you, Eru.” I said. And then, silence. There were no movements and no one hugged me. I stood quietly, unmoving.

“Akihiko Kazuto, do you remember I told you not to run in the hallway? I hope you’ll fix that attitude by the time you’re back in Japan,” a male voice said. Ah! I recognize this one, the guy from the hospital. “We’ve gone through so much. And by the time you confessed, you were already in danger. I took the false path by rejecting you. But I want to say it properly, so you have to come back and confess to me once again! Snowy would be waiting for Mummy to come back, as well as Daddy. Understand that? So get the hell out of Japan, recover and come back here.” He said.

Something in my brain flickered. Mummy…. Daddy…. Snowy?

“Everyone, halt!” another voice yelled. I startled. “I am Uekino Ren and I’m acting as the second captain for Rakuzan Soccer Club.” He added.

.

Silence.

.

.

“Heichou! Kyou made arigatou gozaimasu!!” Ren said in a loud, big voice.

“Heichou! Kyou made arigatou gozaimasu!!!!” the voices of a group of males repeated.

My heart clenched even more. I remember this…. But where?

“Aka….” I blurted out and some of them gasped. I covered my mouth, totally surprised by what I just said. Aka what….?

“Attention to passengers of flight XR5106, please board the plane now as we’re going to depart to Sydney, Australia in 20 minutes.” The stewardess’s voice echoed through the whole airport. A hand grabbed my arm.

“We’re going, Kazuto.” Shiori said and we walked away.

Silence followed us. No one spoke. And I was too bewildered to access what’s in my brain.

6 YEARS LATER….

    “You can open it now.”

My fingers traced along the side of my head and eventually found the knot of the blindfold I’ve been wearing for 6 years. The trauma I’ve been having since high school is disappearing; I have nothing to worry about. But I still can’t find the answer to the emptiness in my heart. I feel so lonely despite the fact that Shiori were always with me. I untied the knot. The blindfold came off and bright lights urged me to open my eyes.

“Kazuto dear, open your eyes.” Shiori said.

I obliged and gasped upon the arrival of my gaze to the surrounding. So this is the world I’ve not seen in the past 6 years? The doctor pushed a mirror to me. I looked at myself. So not me. My hair had grown longer and my face’s pale. Somehow, it doesn’t feel right.

Did something, or rather, someone might have been gone during my 6 years’ life?

“Shiori, can you help me cut my hair after this?” I said.

She nodded. She’s not tying her hair into the usual messy bun anymore. 6 years of blindness left a great scar. “Is there anything important that I miss all these years?” I tried to ask.

Shiori went silent and then hugged me. “I’ll help you attach the last piece of your puzzle,” She said. “Finally, we’re going back to Japan.”

****

“This is the only way to complete yourself, Kazuto. Go, find it.” Shiori said and pushed my back as she tidied Spero Bakery. I wandered along the road, totally unfamiliar of this place.

-w-

In a certain building sat a redhead, staring at his phone since 2 minutes ago, unsure of what to do when he received the message.

From: Shiori.

The vow is completed Seijuurou. I’ve brought Akihiko Kazuto back to you.

.

To: Shiori.

Why are you being all poetic?

.

From: Shiori.

EH SHATTAP YOU!

A mew could be heard and Akashi glanced down. “Snowy,” he spoke and the white grown cat climbed to his lap. “Mummy’s back.”

-w-

I bit my lower lip. Okay, so why the hell did I step into this basketball court? “Come on, nee-chan! You can do it! Shoot a three-pointer!” the boy who invited me here shouted. I was walking past the court when the ball got out of the boy’s hands and I caught it. Since then, the boy had been urging me to come and try shooting a three-pointer.

I looked at him and a certain image flashed past my mind. I stepped back and took a deep breath.

“I am Miyagi Shiro, just call me Shiro. You’re so handsome by the way….”

.

“Heichou!”

.

“Heichou! Kyou made arigatou gozaimasu!”

.

“Heichou don’t cry! We did this particularly for you! Because you’re so special! Thank you for willing to teach us and guide us to the true light of soccer!”

.

“Akihiko-san!”

.

“I can’t do this anymore.”

.

“Because Akashi is cooler!”

.

“Starbucks, after school, my treat, Kotarou.”

.

“Wow! What’s that?”

.

“Pfft! You don’t know what’s a selfie, Reo?! Seriously?”

.

“Kazu-chan!”

.

“Kazuto, you’re seeing the lights once again.”

What was that? I thought I hated basketball but why am I even in the air, shooting a three-pointer?

Have you not heard the rule ‘do not run in the hallway’ before?”

.

“I have a name, Kazuto. You’re not allowed to call me Mister President.”

.

“I have a party to attend tonight so I can’t let Snowy roam in my house without the supervision of Mummy or Daddy, right?”

Eh?

“He is watching over you. Hold this basketball, close your eyes and feel his gaze. He’d want to see you happy with his passion.”

.

“Oh your Mummy’s here.”

.

“I don’t forget things, Kazuto. Unlike you.”

.

“Your hair was like Medusa.”

.

“I’m sorry.”

Aka….

I threw the ball and it was as if it was in slow motion. The ball landed on the rim before proceeding into the basket and bounced on the floor.

“Nee-chan, sugoi! Teach me!” the boy urged, tugging at my sleeve.

“Alright, as you wish, Akashi Seijuurou!”

My orbs widened. “Akashi…. Seijuurou..!” I gasped and backed away a few steps until I hit something behind.

    “You called me, princess?”

I turned around and saw a grown man. Red hair, hetero orbs. “Akashi!” I yelled and he winced, smiling.

“Akashi!” I shouted and clenched my fists. So this is what has been missing these 6 years! This bossy redhead!

“AKASHI SEIJUUROU!” I screamed on top of my lungs and threw my arms around him, hugging him as if there’s no tomorrow, grinning like an idiot who won a lottery.

    “Akihiko Kazuto. Finally, you’re back.”

“TADAIMA REDHEAD!” I said loudly, suppressing my tears then pointed to the little boy who was speechless over our small reunion. “THIS KID WANTS ME TO TEACH HIM, YOU FOLLOW ME!”

Akashi ruffled my hair. “I’m right here, you don’t need to shout.” He said.

    “WHATEVER!”
