CHAPTER 38

I walked up to my awful, gloomy room and lay on the crappy bed. I didn't care about what Demi did, she was just... emotionally unstable. Maybe even a little jealous seeing that Max and I had 'something'. But I was worried about him. They barely trust me, I can see it in Bek's face. He knows something. But he seems to be very familiar with Max and that was worrying me. I sat up, I wasn't going to sleep, not because I couldn't but because I didn't want to, I didn't want Max in my head. So I stayed up.

Midnight. It was late and I presumed everyone was sleeping. I opened the door, peering outside just in case. I walked down the hallway and stood at the top of the stained faux, marble stairs. Where the stairs ended was abrupt, being engulfed by the lack of light. I quietly began my descent into the darkness. I tiptoed into the main hall, turning one of the lanterns on. I sat on one of the chairs, my elbows on my knees and my head ducked, trying to clear my clustered mind.

"You shouldn't be here," I heard someone say behind me,

"Hey Michael. I was just going up," I said, standing,

I headed towards the door but was barricaded my his arm across the frame, "Not so fast, Rookie"

I felt his other hand on my shoulder, immediately making me uncomfortable.

"Michael, get your hand off me...or-"

"Or what? You'll tell Max?" He laughed,

I gritted my teeth, waiting for him to let go, but it just got worse. He leaned down against my neck and I felt his breath on my shoulder. He held me firmly against the wall, and I could smell the alcohol in his breath. I stood completely still ready to run when I got the chance, but then when I thought, that was all that could happen, he kissed me. Straight on the mouth. And that's when I bit him. "SON OF A BI-"

But before he could finish his sentence, I was already sprinting my way to the stairs, but by the first step, he caught up and tackled me, his bleeding, grimacing mouth above me, his arms around my neck. I struggled to breath, but thankfully I was able to kick him off. I scrambled up and gasped for breath. I tried to run up the stairs again but he caught me by the arm and hit me straight on my left cheek, just missing my eye. I just stood there, in shock. I finally regained my balance and kicked his shin hard enough to make him fall back. I turned, taking two steps at a time, tears strolling down my face. He was still on the floor below as I ran to my room and locked it. Drunk bastard.
