CHAPTER 26

We walked into the next room. I realised the place was bigger that I thought for a hide-out behind a wall. The rooms were actually quite amazing. There were basic brick walls that were covered with graffiti and polished cement floors, bookshelves were laden with hard-cover books. There were no windows since, well, it was a secret living space behind a freaking wall. The light came from hanging solar power lamps that dangled from the ceiling. In the corner of the room was a tub. I walked towards it and turned the tap. Water gushed out of it,

"How?" I asked Max, switching it off,

"Well, Craig grants mutants access to resources,"

"So he knows you're in here?"

"Yes. But as far as he knows, I'm on his side. All the mutants that same across me, I killed. Even the ones that walked into my house. There were a couple that got away, but they were taken care of"

"But I thought you said your 'decoy' house was secured with cameras. Didn't Craig see?"

"No, I made sure the system was triggered. I mixed the wires around a little. They came to check on me once they're system was lagging,"

"I'm so confused, you keep changing the story" I say, circling the dust off a book with my index.

"There were cameras they saw glimpses of what was happening but they weren't suspicious, they just came to check the system. I'll explain everything. Why don't you have a bath and I'll fix us something to eat,"

"You speak to me like I've forgiven you. I haven't,"

He walks over to a small cabinet and pulls out a towel. He then walks right up to me, so close, the tips of our noses touched. He gently brushed his lips against mine, "let's be honest here," He said moving his hand up my arm. He brought his lips even closer, and kissed me. I bit him. Yep, straight on his bottom lip, "Don't flatter yourself," I say grabbing the towel from under his arm, he moaned quietly in pain.

"You bit me!"

"I did? congratulations Sherlock Holmes, do you want an award for pointing that out?"

"Ugh, I'm so stupid to think that things could actually be normal, but maybe I was wrong," He said, walking out,

I didn't say anything. I walked towards the entrance of the room to close the door. But there wasn't one, just a clear rectangular opening in the wall that separated the two rooms. Absolutely no privacy.

I looked out into the next room, Max was busy charting a map on the table. I turned back into the room and tiptoed across the floor to the bathtub and turned the handle. The water was warm as I ran my fingers through it. I quickly took my clothes off and slipped into the clear water. Once I was in I craned my neck to see if Max was close-by. Once I was sure I was hidden, I leaned my head back in the tub and shut my eyes. I started to hum softly, skimming the water with my thumb. The fact that I was completely naked in a tub full of clear water in a room without a door, and a male mutant in the next room, didn't seem to bother me as much as I thought it would.

This was the first time in a long time that I had been surrounded in clean water. I walked my fingers along the side of the bathtub, flicking away the stray droplets.  I took a deep breath and sunk my head below the surface. I opened my eyes, the water blocked my sight, making my vision blurry. I shut them again and let myself drift into thought.

I heard the gunshots echo through the white walls. Eve ducked down as Max ran in with a gun. Each time the scenario changed, he wasn't dead. He turned the gun towards Eve as I tried to wiggle my hands through the straps that held me down on the chair. And then I heard the two bullets that were released from Max's gun. I looked over at the woman dying on the floor. Max ran over to me and untied me from the chair, "Did they hurt you?" he asked, taking my head in his hands. I felt a warm feeling, almost realistic.

I hadn't realized that my head was still under the water. I sat up and gasped for breath.

Max ran in but backtracked as soon as he realized I wasn't wearing clothes, "Sorry," He said turning back into the other room just behind the wall.

"Yours or mine?" Max said referring to the dream,

"Mine, i think. I've been having things dreams for about a year now. The dream always stopped short, but when you came along, it seems longer. But why does it keep changing," I say loudly then he can hear me from across the wall,

"Maybe it's because you're thinking of the possibilities. What did you do differently?"

I didn't really remember what I was doing, I paid more attention on the people around me, "I don't know, i can't remember," I finally replied,

"From now on channel your thoughts, try and pay attention to the outcomes of what you do, it could help"

"help how?"

"Maybe it's foreshadowing what will happen," He said as if a lightbulb had turned on in his head.

It was possible. Anything was possible at this point.

"can you move further away from the wall?" I asked getting ready to transition into my towel.

"Why?"

"Do you want to see me naked?" I say realizing that wasn't the best question to ask,

"do I really need to answer"

"Perv"

He laughed as I heard him get up off the floor and move,

"All clear," he said, kind of loudly, proving that he was somewhere far in the corner of the room,

I quickly grabbed the towel and pulled myself out of the water wrapping it around myself, twisted the corners into a loose knot and tucked it in the top. I lay my wet hair onto one of my shoulders, squeezing the water out, into the tub,

"Are you done already?" Max said from the other room,

"Why in such a hurry?" I reply back

"I need to bathe too,"

I looked around the room for my bag. It had the new clothes in them. They were on the couch in the other room. No way was I putting on the old, ripped, putrid clothes just to get it, "Max!" I called,

"What? Did you change your mind?" Ugh, that pervert,

"No. Can you grab my bag for me?"

"Sure," he said, "okay, I grabbed it. What now?"
"Seriously?" I said sternly, trying to hold a foolish chuckle,

He laughed, "Do you want me to come in and give it to you?"

"Yeah. But close your eyes,"

"Okay"

He walked in with the bag.

"HEY! They're open!"
He stopped and looked at me.

"Um, excuse me? My eyes are up here" I say as he grinned widely. He walked over and handed me the bag. He was too close, "Okay, thanks. You can leave now," I said pushing his back with my pinkie finger. He didn't budge. Instead he leaned over, his breath on my shoulder, making my wet knees weak. His lower lip gently grazed my ear. 'Oh, god' I thought as the towel slowly loosened itself, 'don't fall, don't fall,' I said trying to subtly bring my hand back and tuck it in.

"Alex..."

"What?" I said in a whisper. Shit. Too seductive,

"You left the tap running,"

I whipped around and shut the tap. Ugh, that was embarrassing.

He laughed softly looking back at me, "Oh honey, you want me. You want me real bad,"

"Ha, you wish," I said, a little too soon. He made me nervous. It wasn't because he was intimidating, but because he was right. And there I was in nothing but a towel, holding a bag in one hand like a fool.

"Okay if you're done, can you leave?" I said raising my eyebrows,

"You can go change in the other room. It's my turn," He said taking off his shirt, a move that made me quiver in need.

I tiptoed away into the next room, after turning around for the last time, to see his amazing back. Oh god, his back. It was like every part of him was perfect. His dark blonde hair was messy, but he made it look hot. His arms were toned and so was his chest. His jawline...Oh, how could I even begin with this jawline. His green eyes matched well with his even skin tone. I turned away. How could I fall for him, but at the same time despise him? Maybe I didn't hate him at all, maybe it was just an act to cover up my feelings. Wait, feelings? Oh, yeah, those. They were all over the place at the moment. But I knew the feelings I had for him, were genuine. I was falling for him. But he couldn't know.
