CHAPTER 17
I rummaged around the room looking for anything that I could find useful. Wilson sat on top of the dresser, grooming himself.
"Well, Wilson, it's just you and me now," he looked up at me, then pricked his ears up, ducking his head down, his body, still.
"What is it?" I asked grabbing my baseball bat from inside one of the bags. He let out a hiss and jumped down. I put the mattress on the frame and ducked under the bed, holding the bat tight. I heard men in the corridor. Seriously? Again! God, can't they just leave me the hell alone?! Wilson stood near the door, watching the light shift from under the door from their bulky shadows.
I heard loud bangs outside. They were kicking down the doors. "Shit," I whispered, wiggling out from under the bed. I ran to my bag and pulled out my gun. I needed a diversion. By the sounds of it, there were more than three. I opened every drawer and every cupboard. I was shuffling in one of the bathroom cabinets and ended up finding a whole stash of spirits. Alcohol, perfect. I needed fire.
I grabbed my backpack again and felt around for my lighter. I then sprinted quietly over to the bed and ripped up a small piece of the sheet. I opened the bottle, put the piece of cloth in it and held the lighter, ready to light it. They were getting closer and the loud noises of the doors collapsing made me jump. I stood in front of the door. The cat moved aside and scurried into the bathroom.
They were right outside my door. I lit it. The fire's light lit up the dark room. They swung open the door and I smashed it at their feet. They screamed as their fire engulfed bodies, burned. I wanted to turn and run, but my body seemed glued to the floor as I watched them try to escape the red flames. I then snapped back into reality and found my feet as I ran into the bathroom and grabbed Wilson out of the bathtub. I picked up the bags quickly, and threw them out the window, followed by my body. I crashed onto the floor. I looked up at the brightness of the scorching sun and then back down at the barren landscape. What I saw in front of me, was the best thing I had come across for two years. Their vehicle.
