Welcome to my world
It was early morning in Arendelle and it had been a full few months since the thaw. The place had changed a lot since then as the dragons had officially become a part of the Kingdom. Not too far from the castle, a huge ice sanctuary that the Bewilderbeast had built was slowly taking shape.
Hiccup had gotten the Whispering Deaths to construct tunnels leading from it the main town over a month ago. He taught the people of the town how to gain the trust of dragons and bond with them.
Anna bonded with Stormfly and have become almost inseparable as much as her and Elsa.
Kristoff has also bond with Hookfang and they get along with Sven really easily.
Elsa hasn't found a dragon species she would like to be bonded with yet since she's usually with Hiccup and Toothless.
Today, Hiccup was just finishing up another tale of his that he entertains the children with when Express comes in with an important message.
"Express. Great to see you." Hiccup says as he holds his arm out and the Terror lands on his outstretched arm.
"I'm happy you guys moved." He admits to Hiccup. "Shorter distance to travel."
Hiccup laughs and takes the note off his leg and starts to frown as he reads the note.
"Hey, Hiccup." Kristoff greeted the man when he saw his face. "Everything okay?"
"My sister...she wants me to come back home. Is urgent." Hiccup tells him.
-
Hiccup flies back to Caldera Cay as the others also joined him on his mission home as Kristoff and Sven are on Hookfang with Stormfly Anna flying beside him, as Toothless leads the way with Elsa and Hiccup, and Windshear with Heather and Olaf beside them.
When they arrived, they found Mala and Throk quickly.
"Hiccup! Thank the ancients, you received our message." Mala says, stressed out.
"Mala, Throk, What's happened?" Hiccup asks as he and everyone else gets off their dragons.
Mala leads them over to a egg that's on a stand while on fire.
"Is that...?" Toothless was trying to guess.
"An Eruptodon egg." Hiccup interrupts.
"An Erupto-what?" Kristoff asks.
"Eruptodon. Unlike every other dragon, Eruptodons only lay one egg in their lifetime." Hiccup explains to them.
"We have been waiting generations for our Great Protector to have an heir. And now, it's finally happened and thought you wanted to be here." Mala says.
"So, wouldn't this be a time to celebrate?" Anna asks.
Everyone in the a Defenders of the Wing look sad and they're confused.
"If it were that simple." Mala says.
"An Eruptodon egg can only hatch under very specific conditions." Throk tells them.
"Since the Dragon is born of flame, it's egg requires the life-giving Layla of its ancestral nesting site. It's a cavern that's deep inside the Grand Volcano." Hiccup explains. "But shouldn't the Eruptodon have brought it to the cave by now?" He asks his sister and sees her get more sad.
-
They're brought to the Grand Volcano where the Eruptodon is resting while Hiccup speaks to her.
"I understand." Hiccup says as he's resting his head against the Eruptodon's chin. "It's okay. I understand."
"Do you get used to this?" Elsa asks Throk, Heather, and Mala.
"After a few years." Heather answers.
"I grew up with him, I'm used to it." Mala replies.
"The birthing of the egg weakened her, so much as she can't carry the egg, and...she thinks it's time for her to go to..." Hiccup tells them and doesn't want to think of the place.
"Where to?" Kristoff asked.
"Vanaheim." Hiccup says and everyone is sadden or confused.
"What's that?" Olaf asks.
"It's where dragons go to live out their golden years. Their final resting place." Throk explains as Hiccup places his head against the Eruptodon's nose in a comforting manner.
"it's gonna be hard for him. She's the first one to reveal to us that Hiccup could speak to the dragons." Mala tells Elsa. "He and that dragon have a special bond. But he knows this is a well earned rest for our Great Protector."
"Without proper nesting, the egg won't be able to hatch." Throk says.
"Our only option is to transport the egg ourselves before the lava floods the cavern." Mala tells them as they look to where the cave is and the lava is slowly rising up to it. "The future of our entire civilization rests on the egg's survival. If it fails to hatch, the Great Protector will not have an heir. And if there's no Eruptodon to eat the lava, the island and tribe is doomed."
Hiccup looks down to where the cave is and looks to his home. "I'll do it."
"What?" Everyone asks.
"There's a small window, but it should be enough time for me and Toothless to get in and out with the egg." Hiccup promises his sister. "I'll be fine."
Later, Hiccup puts on his lava proof suit that he used to wear before he left to live with the dragons.
"What's he wearing?" Anna asks Mala and Throk.
"Our armor is coated with a layer of heat-resistant Eruptodon saliva." Mala tells them and disgusts them a bit. "It will protect him from the lava as his skin is only fireproof. Lava still harms him like everyone else."
"Come on, bud." Hiccup says as he gets on top of his dragon and Throk brings the Eruptodon egg to him.
"May the spirits of our fallen warriors guide your wings, Hiccup." Throk tells him.
"You sure about this?" Elsa asks Hiccup.
"Well, not really. But I'm the Dragon Prince. I have to do this." Hiccup tells her as this is one of his responsibilities as the Dragon Prince. Doing everything to continue the life of a species of dragon.
The two fly high into the air before diving down as fast as they can and make it inside the cave.
"Okay, bud, we need to get to the end of the caverns before the lava floods in and get the egg there." Hiccup says, not knowing that there's a flock of creatures in the darkness.
-
Everyone watches as the lava rises up to the cavern and start getting worried.
"That lava is getting a little too close to the entrance." Anna comments.
"Not to worry, Princess Anna." Throk assures her. "Prince Hiccup knows this volcano as much as Queen Mala."
"They've been down there for a long time." Elsa says and they see it's getting too close to the cavern.
"Hiccup knows what he's doing, Queen Elsa. He will complete his task." Mala knows, having faith in her brother.
-
Hiccup is holding Inferno out as a light source as he's using his powers to keep the egg hot so it won't die.
"What's that?" Toothless asks Hiccup as they come to a stop and see something carved in the walls.
Hiccup and Toothless walk over to it and see cravings of people, the egg, and some creatures.
"Father used to tell me and Mala about a time when the tribal elders would climb down into these caverns, sacrificing themselves for the greater good of the tribe." Hiccup explains.
"And what about those figures?" Toothless asks, looking at the drawings of something above the egg and people drawings.
"No idea. Dragons? Maybe they're indigenous to the cave." Hiccup guessed. "We need to keep moving." He says when they hear screeching in the caves.
Dozens of dark dragons with glowing red eyes approach and Hiccup tries scaring them off with Inferno, but they just eat the flame.
"Okay, I didn't see that coming." Hiccup admits.
"Any other ideas?" Toothless asks.
"Hoping you did." Hiccup says.
"Wait...you can understand us?" One of the creatures ask Hiccup.
"Yes, I can." Hiccup says. "What do you want with the egg?"
"We are here to help the Eruptodon eggs reach their nesting place." One of the others tell him.
Hiccup looks to Toothless and he shrugs and they decide to hand the egg to them and they take it from Hiccup and start flying off.
"Not to worry. We wish only to care for the egg and protect it." They say before flying off and the cave begins to shake.
"We got to get out of here, bud." Hiccup tells Toothless and they fly off.
They fly as fast as they can and make it out at the last second.
-
A few days after the birth of the new Eruptodon, they get ready to say goodbye to their old friend on the beginning of the new day.
"Goodbye, old friend." Hiccup tells the Eruptodon. "Until we meet again in Valhalla." He says as the Dragon leans close to Hiccup.
"It has been an honor watching you grow, my prince. One day, you will know you're true potential and your responsibilities." The Eruptodon promises him and leaves flying off into the sunset.
They watch the dragon as it flies off into the distance and Hiccup just stands on the edge as Elsa joins him.
"I'm gonna miss that dragon." Hiccup tells her.
"You really have a connection with all your dragons, don't you?" Elsa sees.
"Yeah. They're like my second family." Hiccup says and leans Elsa against him.
They watch for a while longer and go to join the others for breakfast before returning to Arendelle and Elsa asks Hiccup to help her find a dragon to bond with.
And Hiccup has the perfect dragon for her.
-
Once they returned home, Hiccup called Liry over to them and explained that Elsa was now looking for a dragon and thought they'd be perfect for one another.
Hiccup talked Elsa through the steps on how to bond with her, hoping they accept each other.
As Elsa reached out, Liry let out a rumbling from her throat, warning Elsa to stay back.
Liry really doesn't get along with anyone who isn't Hiccup. When he found her, she was captured and tortured on by Dragon Hunters. She doesn't really trust many people afterwards, which is why Hiccup hopes this works.
Elsa pulled her hand back, and bit her lip, before turning her head away and closing her eyes, reaching out once more. Time seemed to stand still when Elsa felt something cold touch her hand.
Turning her head and opening her eyes, she saw Liry's nose touching her hand with her eyes closed.
Something seemed to connect between them, and Elsa could describe it in one word.
A bond.
-
The rest of the day, Hiccup explains how to ride Liry, she's not exactly ready to fly on her own.
But Hiccup has confidence she's ready.
That night, Hiccup looks out to the night sky with Elsa and the Furies near them as Toothless is ready to go for their normal night flight.
"What does it feel like to fly out there?" Elsa wonders.
"It's actually hard to describe the feeling." Hiccup told her as they are walking towards a waiting Toothless, who was almost invisible thanks to the shadows. "The only way to explain it is to experience it yourself."
Elsa was left confused as Hiccup walked over to the Night Fury and gets on, his feet in the stirrups on either side. "Let me show you our world."
"I-I don't think it's a good idea." Elsa stammered nervously as Liry sits up. "What if I fall? What if we crash somewhere-" She then saw Hiccup's outstretched hand in front of her and saw a confident and gentle smile on his face.
"Trust me." Hiccup asked of her Elsa was entranced by Hiccup's green eyes and slowly accepted his hand as he helped her sit on Liry with a newly made saddle that blends in with her scales. "Tuck your legs in a little and mind her wings." Elsa nodded as she put her arms on the saddle, knowing where to put them by watching Hiccup.
Liry looked to her new rider as she's waiting to see if she's ready for this.
"I-I'm ready."
Hiccup smiled as Toothless spread his wings and launched into the sky as Liry followed right beside them. Once high enough, the Furies leveled up to glide along the summer breeze.
Hiccup looked and then chuckled at Elsa, who had her head buried into her dragon's back.
"You can open your eyes now." Hiccup promised.
Elsa opened her eyes and gasped but not because of the height they were in, it was because of the beauty of the sight of her home was from above. Hiccup smiled at her look of awe and looks to Liry who's liking her rider so far.
"I can show you the world." Hiccup started singing softly. "Shining, shimmering, splendid. Tell me, princess, now when did you last let your heart decide?" Hiccup questioned, picked a flower from one of the trees as they flew by a forest and gave it to the princess behind him, smelling it before placing it in her hair. "I can open your eyes. Take you wonder by wonder. Over, sideways and under on a thrilling dragon ride."
Toothless flew as his rider sang the words, while Liry was doing mild tricks keeping Elsa being unused to it in mind. "A whole new world! A new fantastic point of view. No one to tell us no or where to go. Or say we're only dreaming..."
Toothless then did a flip over Liry and flew ahead and Liry quickly followed the two.
"A whole new world!" Elsa sang with a big smile over the experience with confidence, surprising Hiccup and the dragons. "A dazzling place I never knew! But when I'm way up here, it's crystal clear! That now I'm in a whole new world with you."
"Now I'm in a whole new world with you!" Hiccup continued as they flew across the town and above the castle of when they start following the river.
"Unbelievable sights." Liry looked up with her own gummy smile as she saw Elsa stretch out her arms as if she was flying while continuing to sing. "Indescribable feeling. Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling." The Furies did some more tricks together with her singing while the new rider is enjoying every bit of it. "Through an endless diamond sky. A whole new world!" Elsa sang as as the Furies dropped down a in high speed, causing Elsa to close her eyes.
"Don't you dare close your eyes." Hiccup sang before she opened them again as they glide above the ocean.
"A hundred thousand things to see!" Elsa sang as she looks down at the water and places her hand in it, dragging it along.
"Hold your breath; it gets better!" Hiccup promises as they start flying and spinning around each other towards the clouds.
"I'm like a shooting star! I've come so far. I can't go back to where I used to be." Elsa continued as Hiccup stirred Toothless back through the clouds and Liry followed, seeing the northern lights in all their glory.
"A whole new world!"
"Every turn, a surprise."
"With new horizons to pursue!"
"Ev'ry moment red-letter!"
"I'll chase them anywhere." They sang together and flew over the forests of Arendelle as they saw the many lights of their home from above and some dragons sleeping. "There's time to spare! Let me share this whole new world with you!"
"A whole new world." Hiccup sang softly as they flew right next to one another.
"A whole new world." Elsa sang softly.
"That's where we'll be."
"That's where we'll be."
Hiccup turned to Elsa beside him as they sang together, "A thrilling chase."
"A wondrous place."
"For you and me." They lay their heads against each other as they held the last lyric together.
Flying outward, they follow the northern lights home as the Furies seem to have taken control of flying themselves to let their riders have their moment.
