Old friends
Hiccup and Toothless were flying over the ocean while avoiding the rocks at the same time.
They already knew where their destination was due to have already studied the landscape of the island, Hiccup took the liberty of remembering every location his family and he went to when they went traveling. Toothless also paid attention to his surroundings in order to be on the same level as Hiccup.
It had been over a year since Hiccup left Caldera Cay to live in the Sanctuary and has learned much about his abilities and now had the abilities of the dragons.
The call of a Thunderdrum.
The Acid spitting of a Changewing.
And much more than that.
The two of them continued to fly over the vast ocean until the spotted the island known as Berk, Toothless started to fly lower just so he wouldn't catch the humans' attention. He steered toward the forest area and Hiccup held on tighter.
It wasn't long before they landed quietly; Hiccup jumped off his brother's and scanned the surrounding area for any signs of life. Hiccup gave Toothless a pat as a way of telling him it was okay and the Night Fury nodded his.
"This place hasn't changed a bit, bud." Hiccup said as he sat down next to Toothless. "It seems like only yesterday we came here for the first time." He then remembers the day when they flew past this place in order to fight the Red Death.
"This place has stayed the same and yet look at us." Toothless said as he stretched out his wings to make a point. "We're bigger, taller and smarter than were two years ago."
Intrigued by Toothless's statement Hiccup stood and went to the small pond of water, he looked at his reflection. It has been long since he took a long look at his own reflection and sees Toothless was right, while he still wasn't muscular, he had grown taller and but looked at least fit. And his armor has changed from his old attire to his new flight suit.
His hair had grown a little longer too and his freckles had become more pronounced. His intelligence and knowledge had increased over these last years living with dragons.
He turned back to his brother and he noticed that the Night Fury's body had become more muscular and large in size. His flight navigation had improved since they last time as well, Toothless was certainly living up to his Night Fury blood.
"You're right, bud. We have changed a lot haven't we? How the years have passed by so quickly," Hiccup stated with a small smile.
Hiccup jumped back on Toothless' back and they ran through the forest dodging the trees, bushes and rocks. They saw lights coming from up ahead and they knew that were going in the right direction. Once there, they reached another hiding place that's when they saw the village coming up.
Not surprisingly, there were barley anyone out and the people who were out were already heading to back their homes in order to get ready for bed.
Hiccup scanned the area to see where they would take their dragons and that's when he saw a large ring, it was caged on the outside and had strong wooden doors with a heavy lock.
"There," Hiccup said as he pointed.
"The ring, of course. A human's natural fear of dragons would allow them to cage up dragons."
"We stick to the shadows, Toothless, no one can see us and no one can hear us either. We have to be silent and quick." Hiccup reminds his brother.
"No offense, Hiccup, but you're talking to a Night Fury here. The fastest and smartest of all the dragon species." Toothless reminds him as they sneak through and make it near the arena.
"And that's why I love and have faith in you. We're going to have some trouble breaking it out of there though, we can't break those locks and doors using your plasma blast without waking the entire village up." Hiccup says and takes the lock in his hands and his hands started to burn the lock for several seconds before it snapped and they could enter the ring.
Toothless walked in first and got far enough to see where they were keeping the dragon locked up. When Toothless was out of sight and just when Hiccup was about to enter as well that's when the world stopped.
"Hey!" a voice cried out.
Toothless heard his brother's distress and turned around to see Hiccup frozen in fear looking at an opposite direction. Hiccup's eyes were facing him while he body was facing a Viking girl, Toothless didn't need Hiccup to say anything in order for him to know what was going on. His green eyes said it all.
They had been caught!
Toothless stayed where he was in the shadows and waited to see how Hiccup would get them out of this.
Hiccup turns to face the girl and has no idea how to get out of this predicament.
"Hi." Hiccup greeted.
"Who are you?" She asked him. "I've never seen you around here before."
"I'm a...traveler. I just got here." Hiccup quickly lied and could tell she didn't buy it.
"I can tell you're lying." She says and pulls out an axe. "Now you're gonna tell me why and what you are doing here?"
Hiccup's eyes looked back at Toothless who was sporting an entertaining look on his face along with a smile.
"I... I can't tell you."
"Why not? You're trespassing in this village."
"I know but...I still can't tell you. I... just can't. You wouldn't understand...at least not yet anyway. And I'm sorry." Hiccup apologizes in advance.
"For what?" She asks when Hiccup raises his mask and blows a puff of Flightmare algae, freezing her with fear.
Once they done with her, he makes his way inside the arena.
"Hello everyone," Hiccup greeted calmly.
That's when all the dragons' eyes opened and they turned their attention to the human boy. Each of them started to growl once they caught sight of him. They struggled even more in their chains and fought against the cages.
"A human!"
"What's it doing here?"
"Filthy human scum!"
"Spawn of the people who imprisoned us!"
Toothless began to growl once he heard the insults that were being directed toward his brother and he stepped forward and spread his wings as far out as he could. His pupils became more cat-like as he took a stance.
"No, Toothless, it's okay. At this point they have every right to hate me."Hiccup told his brother. "Dragons, please hear me out. I am not here to hurt you."
"What it this? The human can speak our language."
"And he can understand us!"
"What magic is this?"
"He is the Dragon Prince." Toothless explained to them.
"Could it be?"
"After all these years?"
"Listen, I know you are confused as to what is going on, but my brother and I are here to save you from your imprisonment," Hiccup stated.
Just then Hiccup took out a tool he carried to help the dragons escape and made his way toward the first cage he saw. He cracked open the lock and stepped into the cage. With no hesitation, he walked to the dragon's form.
There stood a Monstrous Nightmare with shackles and chains wrapped around its legs and neck. Its wings were tied down with rope along with netting and there was muzzle on his mouth. Hiccup placed his hand out to the dragon, trying to calm him down.
"Please let me help you," he pleaded, wanting nothing other than to help.
The Monstrous Nightmare knew he had no other choice and placed his neck down next to allow him to help.
Hiccup was easily able to unlock the restraints on its neck and mouth along with the ones on its legs. He's gotten the hang of doing this over the past year. Toothless walked into the cage and cut away the nets and rope using his teeth. Once free, the Monstrous Nightmare stretched out his wings and his neck and the Nightmare then stared at the two.
"You have my thanks and my gratitude, my prince." he said as he bowed to them. "I will follow you no matter where you go."
"Thank you for trusting us. What's your name?" Hiccup asked while scratching his chin.
"Hookfang."
"Well then Hookfang, can you help Toothless get the nets and rope off the others while I unlock the cages and the shackles?" Hiccup asked him.
"It would be my pleasure. But you never told us your names."
"My name is Hiccup."
"And my name is Toothless."
"Now come on. Let's get everyone out of here and get out ourselves." Hiccup tells them and they free the others.
They found Gronckle named Meatlug, a Zippleback named Barf and Belch, and an injured Deadly Nadder named Stormfly was the last one to be released.
The Nadder gave the boys grateful licks to their faces and they laughed a little then Hiccup petted her nostril as Toothless nuzzled her. It surprised them that she was only a year older than them.
But sadly, it seems she was injured and her wing was damaged.
Hiccup had her get on Hookfang and wrapped her gently in some loose rope that hadn't been cut too badly. Thankfully she didn't seem to mind.
"Okay everyone, let's get going." Hiccup stated as he mounted Toothless. "Follow me and Toothless, we will guide you out of here."
The dragons quietly cheered and they followed the two out to the outside world, once they were in the ring they made their way to the large wooden doors.
Hiccup and Toothless carefully opened them and took a peek outside. There was no Viking in sight except for the girl still frozen from the Flightmare algae that should hold her for a good ten minutes more and they nodded to each other. Hiccup turned to face the dragons.
"Listen up everyone," Hiccup called them. "As soon as we get out of here, we need to take off. Don't look behind you and don't stop flying. Understood?"
All the dragons nodded their heads in agreement and Hiccup jumped onto Toothless's back.
The boys were leading a Monstrous Nightmare, Deadly Nadder, Gronckle, Hideous Zippleback and several Terrible Terrors. All the dragons and human walked out of the ring and immediately took off.
Unfortunately, Hiccup and Toothless failed to see the twin Viking boy and girl messing around with the flocks of sheep.
But they didn't fail to notice the large figures jumping into the sky, they knew what they were!
"Dragons!" the boy cried.
"The dragons! They escaped!" the girl exclaimed.
Hiccup and Toothless froze with fear but they kept flying, they had been caught! Again!
"Keep flying everyone, like I said don't look back!" Hiccup yelled.
"You heard the prince, keep flying!" Hookfang shouted as he kept his focus ahead of him.
Just then the entire village woke up from their peaceful slumber and got outside to see the escape happening right before them. Some had torches in their hands and others were running to the weapon shack.
But by then it was too late; the dragons and their Dragon Prince have escaped.
Back at Caldera Cay, Mala has received an invitation from Arendelle saying it's for the coronation of princess Elsa.
"I don't think I'll be attending." Mala tells Throk. "But I know someone who would love to attend. Send this to Hiccup by Terror Mail." She asks him.
"As you wish, your majesty." Throk understands and takes the message and goes to find their messenger Terror.
Hiccup and the other dragons have just returned to the Sanctuary and Hiccup stayed with Stormfly as her injuries are being looked over and attended to.
"You're going to be okay. Just a bit of rest, and some time to heal, you'll be as good as new." Hiccup promises Stormfly as he rubs her nostril to keep her calm.
He hears the familiar screech and sees its the dragon with a message.
"Hey there, Express." Hiccup greeted the Terror. They gave him that name since he was their fastest Terror and messenger.
Hiccup held his hand out and Express landed on his arm and Hiccup pets his head. "What's new at home?"
"Nothing much. Your sister misses you dearly still." Express informs him.
"Yeah, same goes for me here." Hiccup admitted and takes the message and is shocked. "Arendelle...they're reopening the gates." He whispers and smiles at the thought of seeing his old friends again who he hasn't seen in ten years.
He quickly runs to the Bewilderbeast to see how he feels of Hiccup leaving for a few days. The Bewilderbeast lowered his head so he could see Hiccup as he runs up to his resting place.
"My Prince, you have returned, did you find any dragons?" The King asked.
Hiccup bowed before his king/half-father. "Yes, father, and we have had them checked for injuries. They were in a training arena of sorts and were used to train other vikings. Along the way, I have been given some very interesting news from my sister."
The king raised his eyes at the last statement knowing where his son was going with the conversation.
"Okay, tell me what you heard." He replies.
"Mala told me that Princess Elsa of Arendelle was going to be crowned Queen tomorrow, and I was wondering if you would let me go?" Hiccup looked at his father with pleading eyes, the King looked down at his son. He knew there was no getting out of this, and he didn't want to keep his prince here all the time.
"You may go, but on one condition. You take some dragons to escort with you and protect you, take some of the Fireworms and Smothering Smokebreaths, for protection, with you. In the unlikely event that your fire starts to smoulder, they can slow the process down long enough for you to return here." He told Hiccup.
Hiccup understands what he's talking about and sees its just a precaution, not a whole squadron to keep an eye on his every move.
His powers come from his heart, which is also his connection to every dragon in the Sanctuary. His heart has a literal fire inside of it that controls his powers, and if that were to go out and not relight, he could die.
"Thank you, my king." Hiccup says and bows to his dragon father again. "Come on, Toothless let's go pack." The rider mounted his dragon and they took off towards their cave, ready to finally see Mala, Heather, and Throk again after all this time, not to mention seeing Elsa and Anna again after ten years of being apart.
