A long time

"Whooooo!" Hiccup cheers as he and Toothless are soaring through the sky.

It's been ten years since Hiccup learned about his abilities, and Arendelle mysteriously shut their gates and cut contact from the outside world, and he built a saddle for him to ride Toothless. It took some convincing his dad to get him to allow Hiccup to actually try this.

Today would be the first day they're flying together.

"Yeah! Go, baby!" Hiccup cheers as he and Toothless they fly into the sea cliffs. "This is amazing! The wind in my face. I see why you fly a lot." He says to Toothless.

"It's amazing, right?" Toothless agreed with him. "Ready to kick it up a notch?"

"What?" Hiccup asks as Toothless takes them high up into the clouds before plummeting downward and Hiccup lets out a scream for a minute before he begins to cheer. They fly through the sea cliffs and into the open ocean.

"Yeah!" Hiccup cheers and Toothless shoots a plasma blast in celebration and it explodes as they're heading towards it. "Oh, come on." He complains as they fly into it.

Mala was watching from the edge of the pier as the sun was setting and she's wondering where Hiccup is when she hears Toothless' roar and sees the dark dragon flying in and landing with Hiccup and his face is dirty and his hair is sticking up.

Mala lightly chuckles at her brother's appearance. "I take it things went well."

"Ha, ha. Laugh it up." Hiccup says as he gets off of Toothless. "His fault for not giving me a heads up."

"Your fault for not being prepared." Toothless mocks.

"Like I was prepared for you to go full speed on our first ride." Hiccup says.

"I'm the offspring of lightning and death. I'm not known for going slow." Toothless replies while laying down.

"That doesn't mean you need to be the death of me." Hiccup states and he sees Mala is confused as to she only hears the one side argument. "You didn't hear what he said, did you?"

"I'm used to it." Mala assures him and Hiccup walks over to the barrels of fish and passes some to Toothless who lies down and starts to dine on his dinner.

The two start to walk away when they look to see a herd of Terrible Terrors come and Toothless starts to become protective of his dinner as he snarls at them.

Toothless watches them but one was able to sneak one of them, causing the two to fight over it and another tries to steal from the rest of the pile. But this time, Toothless bites it with his teeth to stop the Terror and swallows it.

He starts to laugh at the Terror as it starts to snarl at Toothless and gets ready to charge up a fire attack. Toothless just blasts it in his mouth, causing him to puff out before dropping and wheezing away.

"Not so fireproof on the inside, are you?" Hiccup asks and takes out a extra fish for him. "Here ya go." He says and let's the Terror eat it.

"I'll see you home later?" Mala asks Hiccup.

"Yeah, I'm gonna stop by the shop for a little while and head home. Have a few adjustments to get down." Hiccup promises.

"Try not to stay up too late again." Mala begs of him and leaves to head home.

"I did it one time, and she won't let me live it down." Hiccup says to himself and heads to the blacksmith shop where he's been working on some things. He's been training there since...well, a while after whatever happened in Arendalle.

It was like nothing was wrong, and the next minute they stopped all contacts from the outside kingdoms and even closed the gates.

Hiccup hasn't even heard anything from Elsa or Anna for ten years. He constantly wonders what exactly happened that they would just closed the gates and nobody has heard from the king, queen or princesses since.

-

He makes it to the blacksmith shop and sees all his designs for armor, weaponry and some of his childhood drawings. Some of the dragons from the island, animals from the forest and a few he drew from Arendalle.

Hiccup started smiling at the memories that come to him on all the times he visited Arendalle when the door opens and he sees his father.

"Dad! Uh, Charles isn't here." Hiccup says.

"I figured. Mala said you were back, so I came looking for you." Mason tells Hiccup.

"Really?" Hiccup asks.

"So, how was it? Your first flight?" Mason wonders and now Hiccup sees why he came. I mean, he's probably the first one on the island, probably in the entire archipelago to ever ride a dragon.

"It was...in a word; amazing. There is no feeling like it." Hiccup says as he leans back on his chair.

Mason smiles at his son, seeing he's working on some more inventions and sees something interesting. "What's this?" He asks as he grabs a photo with a flaming sword.

"Oh, that? A design for one of the weapons I'm working on." Hiccup explains, looking at the few interpretations he has made for the sword. "It's supposed to be a personal weapon for me to distract and engage on any enemy I might one day come across. But I have no idea where to start." He confesses.

"Well, maybe we could start with adding a canister for Monsterous Nightmare gel on the bottom of a sword, maybe cut through its center for the gel to go down." Mason offers as a starter.

Hiccup thinks over his advice and sees he's onto something. "Yeah, and maybe add a canister of Zippleback gas for a second weapon on the bottom." He adds on and starts to sketch out the blueprints for it.

"I have a feeling I should've waited until morning to give you some advice." Mason realizes seeing he's gonna pull another all nighter.

Hiccup quickly stops and decides to wait until morning before he gets too deep into this. "No, I promised Mala I wouldn't work all night again." He says and starts to pack up everything when his sketchbook drops and a few papers fly out and mason sees one he drew years ago and it's the Arendalle castle.

Mason picks them up and hands them to Hiccup who looks at the drawing and smiles a little.

"You ever wonder what happened?" Hiccup asks Mason.

"Every day. Arendalle is one of our oldest and friendliest allies. When they shut the gates, I tried to write to anyone inside and never heard back from them." Mason says as he takes a seat next to Hiccup. "It could be a number of reasons to why they closed their gates...but something tells me there's something happening that they never told us."

"Kinda redundant coming from us, who never told them we live with dragons." Hiccup reminds him and Mason laughs at that statement, but it was the truth. They can't get upset with them keeping secrets if they've been keeping secrets from them.

With that, Jason comes in and was searching for him. "My King, we've received a disturbing message from Arendalle."

"What is it?" Mason wonders, surprised to hear from them.

"The king and queen have died." He informs them and they're both shocked to hear that.

Well, Mason was both worried about what this could mean politically and is emotionally shocked, which he's the king so that's not surprising. But also they were his friends, and now they're gone.

Hiccup was however worried about how his friend is doing now. But luckily she has her sister in that castle to lean on.

He just wishes he could be there for her.

-

In Arendalle, Anna returned from her parents funeral and walks through the empty halls to her sisters room and knocks on the door.

"Elsa? Please, I know you're in there. People are asking where you've been. They say, "have courage" and I'm trying to. I'm right out here for you. Just let me in." Anna asks as she leans against the door. "We only have each other. It's just you and me. What are we gonna do?" She asks and drops onto the floor, and leans against the door. "Do you want to build a snowman?"

On the other side, Elsa is leaning against the door and her entire room is frozen with snowflakes floating around the room.

The gates were closed when her parents feared Elsa might loose control of her powers after striking Anna accidentally.

Causing her to be taken to the trolls who erased her memories of Elsa having powers and Elsa closing herself off to learn to control her powers.
