[Third Person Pov]

Defect and Eyeball were sneaking there way across the prison. They came a across a cell with Leggy and Navy in it.

Defect: Navy, Leggy!

Navy: Defect! My hero!

Leggy: Your what?

Defect looked at the force field.

Defect: Not even super strength can get through that. Do either of you know the password?

Navy shook her head no.

Leggy: I heard the guards say it.

Eyeball: Great! What was it.

Leggy opened her mouth and raised her finger, but then got a derp face.

Leggy: Uhhhhhhhhh...........

Eyeball: Ugh, can't you remember anything!

Defect shot Eyeball a glare. She realized what she did and did her counting routine. Defect looked back at Leggy.

Defect: It's ok Leggy, just concentrate, relax. Pretend we aren't here.

Leggy sighed, closed her eyes, and concentrated.

Leggy: Uh...um....grr dang it!

Defect: It's ok, take your time.

Leggy: ...7.........5........3............9!

Defect put the code in and the force field went down.

Defect: Nice job Leggy!

Leggy smiled and blushed.

Leggy: T-thanks D-Defect.

Navy: Now then, let's leave this cell shall we?

The two walked out.

Defect: Now all we gotta do is find Army and Captain, then get out of here! Which, should be a breeze!

They all turned a corner right into a Bismuth.

Defect: ....Uh...... (Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit.)

Bismuth: What are you doing?!

Leggy: We uh....are escorting this defective Ruby!

Bismuth: You are?

Rubies: We are?

Leggy: [extremely nervous] Yes! He was acting up so we had to move him to a new cell. All for the sake of the revolution!

She gave a wide fake smile.

Bismuth: ........Hurry up.

Leggy: Right! Let's go Defe-uh, Ruby!

Leggy grabbed Defect's arm and took him away. Navy and Eyball followed.

Defect: Amazing idea Leggy!

Leggy blushed even harder.

Leggy: I-I-it was nothing. (I feel so much smarter when he's around.)

Navy: Do any of you know the way out?

Before anyone could answer.

Bismuth: HEY WAIT, WE DON'T HAVE ANY RUBY GUARDS!

Eyeball: Well that lasted.

An alarm went off.

Intercom: ATTENTION, 4 RUBIES HAVE ESCAPED!

Defect: Welp, no use being stealthy. You three find an exit, I'll look for Army and Captain.

Before they could argue, he zoomed off.

Eyeball: Ugh! Come on!

The three of them went to find a way out. Meanwhile, Defect was running around the facility.

Defect: No...No...No...No...No-wait that was Army!

He ran back to the cell with Army inside.

Defect: ...They wouldn't use the same code would they?

He put in the code from before...it worked.

Defect: ...Yeah ok.

Army ran out.

Army: Excellent work Defect.

Defect: Glad I could give a hand, or an arm.

*Ba-dum tsh*

Army: ....That pun doesn't even make sense.

Defect: Yeah, you're right it was....

He pulled out a piece of paper from literary nowhere and tore it.

Defect: Tearable.

*Ba-dum tsh*

Army: That-*snicker* isn't funny!

Defect: Your smiling!

Army: I know, I hate it!

Defect: Oh come, even someone like you needs a joke once in a while.

Army: Good ones maybe.

Defect: I'm gonna go look for Captain, can you handle yourself?

Army: Of course.

She summoned her weapon, a spiked shoulder pad.

Army: I can beyond handle myself.

She ran off.

Army: ...It would be nice to him around for a laugh.

Defect started to look for Captain.

Defect: You know, Captain is kind of lame. She need a new nickname...Doc! You're so smart Defect! Thank you Defect.

Defect had to stop for a sec. He saw Doc being taken away by 5 gems.

Defect: HEY!

They all turned to him.

Defect: Let go of my captain right now or-

Doc: Defect, leave!

Defect: Wait what? Why?

Doc: I'm not important, get out now! Tell The Diamonds!

Defect: No! I won't leave you!

Doc: THAT'S AN ORDER!

Defect completely ignored her and sped over to her. One of the gems pulled out a blade and cut Defect with it. Didn't stop him from taking Doc. He ran far and put her down.

Defect: You ok Doc?

Doc: Defect, that was stupid! You could gave cost us the mission!

Defec: What?! No it wouldn't!

Doc: It would! We could've been captured and tortured for information! You could've been bubbled or even shattered losing one of our strongest gems! Or could've just been put right back in out cells, making the mission a waste! And despite all that, despite all the consequences, YOU......you....

Her angry expression turned to one of confusion.

Doc: You chose to save me.

Defect: Well...yeah!

Doc: But-but why? I'm just one Ruby, I'm not important.

Defect put a hand on her shoulder.

Defect: You might think that, but you're way too important to me.

Doc blushed a bit.

Doc: .....I.....I am?

Defect: Doc, I know you think nobody really likes you, but I do. I care about you. I care about the whole squad!

Doc just stared at Defect, then she gave him a big hug.

Doc: T-thank you.

Defect hugged her back.

Defect: No prob.

Gem1: There they are!

Defect: Ok, time to go.

He picked up Doc bridal style and sped off. As he was running, he started to slowly loose speed. Doc noticed this.

Doc: Are you ok?

Defect: I don't know I....hang on.

He stopped and put her down.

Doc: What's wrong?

Defect lifted his top and saw a small pulsing cut.

Defect: That thing the gem hit me with, it's doing something to me. Whatever let's get-ARG!

Defect fell to a knee.

Doc: Defect, are you ok?!

Defect: I'm...ok....

He stood up, and picked up Doc. He started running...at normal speed.

Defect: What the? Where's my super speed?

He put her back down and tried to lift something to no avail.

Defect: My strength? Wha-what did they do to me?

Gem1: What's the matter, no powers?

Multiple gems came around the corner.

Gem1: This little weapon here nullifies your defective powers.

Defect: Wait, how does that work?!

Gem2: Just some simple mixture of rejuvenator technology. But that doesn't matter, what matters, is you and your squad being captured!

One of the gems shot at Doc, Defect couldn't react fast enough. In an attempt to protect her gem, Doc activated her weapon, a breast plate. She slid back a bit when the shot hit her. This really pissed Defect off.

Defect: You can catch us over my shattered gem!

He activated his weapon and Doc got in a fighting stance.

Doc: Do you have a plan?

Defect: .............Hope for the best.

Doc: .....Nice plan....

Eyeball: There you two are!

Defect turned around to see the rest of their squad with their weapons out. Eyeball with her chisel, Leggy with a metal boot, Navy with a crest, and Army with her shoulder pad.

Army: We couldn't find a way out.

Navy: This place is a maze!

Leggy: This place is a what?

Doc: Alright, looks like we have no choice but to fight our way out.

Defect: ...Most walls are made of stone....

Leggy: What?

Defect: And if these walls are like that....girls! We can punch our way out!

Doc: Punch our way-*gasp*! RUBIES!

Gem1: Oh shoot.

They all got in formation.

Doc: COMBINE!!!!

They all fused into a giant Ruby.

Gem1: Stand your ground!

The giant Ruby bashed through a wall, leaving a dust cloud. When the dust cleared, it showed the giant Ruby busting down more walls.

Gem2: ......Crap.

The giant Ruby mangaged to get outside and was legging it to the ship.

(Army): We should be home free by this point.

(Defect): I think you jinxed it.

Something went through the back of the giant Ruby's head, separating them all.

Doc: Keep moving!

They all ran as fast as they could,

Defect: God, this is so slow!

Navy: I see the ship!

Leggy: Uh guys? They're gaining on us!

Gem1: Don't let them escape!

Amethyst1: Heh, I won't!

She pulled out her whip and wrappes it around Defect.

Defect: What the-

She pulled him back with it

Defect: AAAAAAHHH-

The other Rubies didn't realize until they made it to the ship.

Eyeball: Wait a sec. Defect!

He was way out of their reach.

Amethyst1: You aren't going anywhere.

Defect struggled to get out.

Gem1: Don't try! Without that strength you can't-

Defect slowly broke the whip.

Gem1: ...Oh right it isn't permanent.

Defect broke free and zoomed into the ship. All the Rubies got in their places.

Doc: Setting course for Homeworld.

Defect: See ya!

With that, the ship took off.

Gem1: Dammit, they got away! *sigh* Get back in the base.

Meanwhile back on the ship.

Doc: Mission success!

Eyeball: Was there really any doubt?

Army: No difficulty once so ever!

Navy: It was a nice looking place.

Leggy: Huh? Wha?

Defect: Woop woooooop!

Eyeball: Honestly, I think Defect deserves all the credit.

Defect: All of it?

Leggy: Yeah, I don't think we would've made it out if it weren't for you.

Army: And you're quick thinking really helped us out.

Navy: You truly are a valuable member of this team.

Defect smiled, blushed, and rubbed the back of his neck.

Defect: Daww, shucks!

Doc: You were a great addition to the team Goofball!

Defect: ...Goofball?

Doc: Well...I thought since you've given us all nicknames, you should get one too.

Defect: Isn't Defect a nickname?

Navy: I like Goofball better.

Eyeball: Certainly fits his personality.

Army: I have no objections.

Leggy: Wait what's-oh, I like it.

Goofball: ...Ok, guess that settles it.

Goofball stood up.

Goofball: You girls are...really nice. You treat me so much better than everyone else. I think we're gonna get along just fine. I'll try my best to make this the best experience possible!

He gave a big confident smile, and immediately all the Rubies felt a  weird feeling inside them.

Eyeball: (He makes me calm.)

Army: (He makes me laugh.)

Navy: (He's really cute.)

Leggy: (He makes me feel smart.)

Doc: (He cares about me so much.)

Goofball sat back down.

Goofball: Anyway, let's get to Homeworld.

He leaned back in his chair and all the Rubies realized what that feeling was.

Rubies: (I'm in love.)
