Chapter 3: Infatuations

"Remember to meet me back here on time! I don't want to be stuck here waiting half an hour for you again." I shouted to Tori as she jumped out the car, eager to meet with her friends. She waved me off as I gathered my bag and slid it over my shoulder before climbing out the car as well. She really gets on my nerves sometimes.

As we pulled in, we had noticed Bella's truck was already in the lot parked up and empty. I had hoped she would wait for me; she was worried about getting lost last night, but if she wants to be independent, I wasn't going to stop her.

Whilst I crossed the lot, dodging other students and cars, trying to keep the drifting, fine rain out of my eyes, I caught sight of Ryan and Robbie climbing out of Ryan's hot red Jeep Wrangler. I supposed that Ryan wasn't the most terrible person to go on a date with, or better yet to be in a relationship with. He was gorgeous there was no denying that. He was a beautiful golden tan colour; he had piercing blue eyes that you could get lost in and soft wavy light brown hair. He had a strong jaw and was muscular and tall... but I guess he had to be being on the football team.

"Hey Ari." Ryan smiled at me wrapping his arm around my shoulder.

"Hi Ryan." I smiled back leaning into him slightly.

He was a good friend too so that's why we got on so well after our breakup, we thought we were just better off as friends but I guess he changed his mind again, not that I was complaining. I was attracted to him and liked him as a friend but there was nothing more there yet, maybe the inkling of old feelings. Who knew, perhaps one day there could be more again.

"What and I don't get a hello?" Robbie asked flicking my shoulder.

"Hey Robbie." I said pulling away from Ryan to hug Robbie, laughing at his childish reaction.

"That's more like it." He smiled wrapping his arms around me tightly. "The others are already inside we decided to stay out and wait for you."

Robbie was the sweetest and most adorable friend anyone could ever ask for. He never ever put himself first and cared for his friends immensely. He was the boy that every girl wanted to date due to his kindness and humour, the good guy, and he wasn't bad on the eyes either.

"You didn't have to, I would have met you at my locker anyway." I said as we began to walk towards the building, passing Bella's truck on the way.

"What a piece of crap." Ryan smirked as he hit the side of the truck, the heavy clonk of the metal vibrating rang through the air.

He was trying to show off but if he was trying to impress me it was a lame and unwarranted effort. His overconfident persona was shining through brightly. It was times like this when I thought I was crazy for even considering possibly feeling something for him again.

I squinted up at him and he gave me a questioning look, almost hurt that I didn't laugh with him, or at least seem impressed. "That's Bella's. Jake rebuilt the engine for it." I said proudly, and he rolled his eyes. The mentioning of his, I guess, rival annoying him. The second reason why it was hard for feelings to stir up again. His hatred of Jacob would only push me further away.

"Oh sorry, you and your precious Jake." He smirked again, wiggling his eyebrows and I rolled my eyes.

"Hey!" I said smacking him in the stomach with my bag. "That's my best friend." I defended, stalking ahead of him.

"Yeah, well then what am I?" He answered jogging after me with Robbie following behind.

"A prick." I smiled sarcastically at him before entering the building to make for my locker.

All the way up until lunch I hadn't seen Bella or shared any classes with her. I hoped she was getting around alright, the different buildings on campus can be a little confusing.

"So, have any of you seen Bella?" I asked taking a seat at our regular lunch table, sliding into my chair and placing my lunch tray down on the table.

"I had Spanish with her last period. Mrs Goff made her stand up and introduce herself, she was nervous, but everyone was eager to get to know her and ask questions." Scarlett said as I began to tuck into my salad.

Scarlett, my gorgeous best girl friend. She had the most mesmerising sea green eyes and bright, golden hair with the heart to match, though she could be feisty when she wanted to be. There was no getting on her bad side. She would destroy you... literally.

"That sounds like her worst nightmare." I said as the guys sat down next to us.

"Oh, there she is now." Scarlett said pointing behind me and I turned seeing her taking a seat at a table with Mike, Angela, Eric and Jessica. "I can't stand Jessica she is such a kiss ass." Scarlett scoffed as she popped a fry into her mouth.

"I know right, she just agrees with what everyone else says just to get on their good side and find out gossip." Cassidy agreed, and I hummed along in agreement as I continued to eat.

Now Cassidy was a bit different to Scar and myself. She was undeniably beautiful, her shiny, red hair making her stand out completely. But, she was temperamental. For example, right now she was her normal calm self but anything, and I mean anything, could change that in an instant. When something annoyed her, she wouldn't simmer down until everyone in the school knew about it. We didn't want to control or change her in any way, it was just hard to get her to calm down again.

"Hey guys it's 12:04 guess who's gonna be walking in in exactly one minute." Jason said after taking a huge bite out of his burger, his food spraying everywhere.

"You're disgusting. And why are you so hung up on them, they're just a bunch of loners, who yes are absolutely gorgeous, but are just plain weird." I said as we all turned to face the door anyway, ready for their entrance.

Jason was a man-whore. He slept with any female that was unlucky enough to find their way into his path. Obviously, we did not approve of his actions, but we loved him despite it all. He was our friend before he hit puberty and became extremely hormonal, so we'd stay his friend in spite of this. Besides, he was funny.

"Because Rosalie is hot. There is no denying that." I rolled my eyes at his comment but kept my eyes on the door anyway.

The Cullens. No one really knew them personally; they just knew of them. They just kept to themselves, never talking to anyone but their own family. They were Dr. and Mrs. Cullen's foster kids, but they were all coupled up with each other. I personally didn't see anything wrong with it, they weren't related. But many of the kids here thought it was absurd. There was Rosalie and Emmett, and then Alice and Jasper but there was also Edward. He was the alone one out of the Cullen kids.

All of them were deathly pale and always looked extremely tired, but all their eyes matched, gold and mysterious which kind on matched their personalities. However, this didn't stop them from being the most attractive students here at Forks High School. Everyone wanted to be like them or be their friend, but no one had the courage to talk to them.

My father had always told me to stay away from the Cullens, there was an old tribe story about them that went back to when my great grandfather was my age. That the Cullens were blood drinkers that posed a threat to the tribe. They apparently swore that they didn't harm humans and only fed from animals. A treaty between the Cullens and the tribe was created in order to keep the tribe safe as their kind couldn't be trusted. All the older generations in the tribe took it seriously but my friends and I only believed it to be a legend to scare us as children. Yes, they were strange and never came on our lands which helped to prove the story, but could they really still be around after all these years, I don't think so.

"And here they are." Jason said snapping me out of my thoughts.

Rosalie and Emmett entered the cafeteria first and all eyes turned to them. Including Bella's, she seemed intrigued like the rest of us. Emmett kept to himself just looking past all the faces that were watching him whereas Rosalie basked in the attention. Sucking it all in and thriving off all the kids noticing her beauty.

Next Alice and Jasper entered the cafeteria. Alice was small but strange, more so than her adopted siblings, that was all you could really say about her. Most of the time she seemed to be distant and off in her own little world. And Jasper, he looked constipated every second of the day, almost as if he was in pain. But the couple walked to their table, ignoring the stares that were sent their way every day of their school life.

Lastly, there was Edward. He had no one compared to his adopted brothers and sisters. He was in my English Lit class, but he always kept to himself, sitting at the back of the classroom all alone. I've never seen him talk to anybody apart from his family.

"I think your cousin is infatuated with Mr. Edward Cullen." Robbie said as he watched Bella watch Edward.

They seemed to be having some intense stare off going on, she was watching him with curiosity whereas he looked confused and interested with her. That's the most interest I've seen him have in someone since he got here.

"Maybe someone's finally good enough for him." I shrugged looking back at them again.

"Harry said he'd give me a lift home, so you don't have to wait up." Tori said climbing out of the car.

"Okay then but call me if you need me." I called to her through the open window, and she nodded in reply, waving before letting herself into the Clearwater house.

Seth, the youngest Clearwater, was her best friend, much like Jake and me. I had always thought she liked him, but she wouldn't admit that to me because they had been friends for so long. As sisters, we both know how to pick them. I was on my way to Dad's, Jesse had left his algebra book at Mom's, and he needed it tomorrow for school, so I thought I'd be a kind little sister and bring it to him.

"Dad? Jesse?" I called into the house once I had arrived and opened the front door. I could hear the TV from the living room, the sound of gunshots echoing through the halls, getting louder as I got closer.

I opened the door slightly seeing all the boys taking up the whole space in the living room, all of them playing against each other on what was most likely some kind of war game.

"Hey!" I shouted to get their attention over the loud noise, but no one noticed me. I put my bag down on the floor and called again but I still wasn't noticed. Instead I walked further into the room and over to the TV set, standing in front of it with my arms open wide blocking the TV screen.

Not unexpectedly, I was met with groans and curse words and the occasional cushion being thrown at me as I disrupted their game. "Get the fuck out of the way Aria." Jesse said standing up from his seat on the couch between Quil and Paul. Oh, how serious boys get about video games.

"And here I thought I was being a nice little sister, bringing her oh-so-lovely brother his algebra book." I said condescendingly placing my hands on my hips.

"Well thanks, you can go now." He said snatching the book from me before pointing towards the door and I scoffed.

"Not until I get an apology from all of you." I stated folding my arms. I don't enjoy pillows being thrown at my face. It also meant standing here for a little longer would annoy Jesse that little bit more.

"Come on Aria, move your sexy ass out the way and let us finish our game." My eyes widened, and my mouth fell open at Quil's words, what the hell?

"Hey!" Was heard from two boys' mouths as they all turned to look at Quil who kind of shrank back into the couch. Jake and Jesse were all glaring at him whilst the other boys were sniggering quietly.

"What? It's the truth." He shrugged, and I stifled a laugh as Jesse glared at me.

"You don't talk about her like that it's weird. We are all like her brothers, none of us should be thinking about her like that." Jesse said, his voice loud and tense. Why was he getting so worked up over this?

"Jesse, hey, calm down it's okay. He was only joking." I said walking over to him and grabbing a hold of his arm. His skin was boiling to the touch and his whole body was shaking. "Jesse, look at me, are you okay? You're burning up." I said leaning up on my tiptoes to touch his forehead.

"Yeah, I'm fine," he reassured bringing his arm around my body to hug me into his side. Bipolar as usual.

"Good." I smiled up at him, a little unsurely as he began to relax. His body stopping from shaking and the heat radiating from his body was decreasing. "You guys still need to apologise though." I said eyeing them all and they nodded.

A chorus of "sorry Aria's" floated around the room as I took a seat on the couch next to Jake, leaning my head on his shoulder as he wrapped an arm around me. Jake and I have always been this way with each other, always touching either by hugging or cuddling or sitting on his lap. I loved being like this with him, but I know he only meant it in a friendly way. Like what Jesse said earlier, all the guys thought of me as their sister and nothing more.

"Have you guys seen Sam recently?" Quil piped up as the game was still paused.

"No why?" Paul asked leaning back against the couch.

"He was at my house the other day talking with Grandpa, he's changed." He explained, he looked like he was remembering the moment based on the distant gaze in his eyes.

"Err Quil? Are you going to continue or are you just going to stare at the ground?" I asked sarcastically, and I earned a few chuckles from the guys. "Well are you going to tell us how he's changed?"

"Oh yeah!" I rolled my eyes. Attention span of a fish. "He's cut his hair and has beefed up massively. Like we knew he was gaining but this is different. He's huge, at least six foot five as well!" He boasted excitedly as he told us the new-found gossip.

"Why would he cut his hair?" Embry asked not to anyone in particular.

It wasn't really a rule for the men of the tribe to have long hair. It was just tradition. But I had to admit, why suddenly cut it with no reason to when he had already had it for his whole life.

"No clue." Jesse shrugged before turning his attention back to the paused game. "Come on let's play."

The boys all agreed and the sound of gunshots and dying groans filled the living room once again. I sighed heavily in boredom. How do boys sit there for hours on end playing the same game?

"What's the matter Blue?" Jake asked rubbing my shoulder with his thumb.

"Nothing. I'm just tired." I sighed closing my eyes and snuggling into his side.

"Why don't you go to bed then?" He asked brushing some loose strands of hair out of my face.

"Because I have to go back to Mom's later, I can't stay here it's Monday." I argued after yawning.

"Well, just have a nap then." He offered, and I nodded, feeling my body relax allowing me to drift off to sleep.

I woke up suddenly to the sound of the front door slamming shut, my body bolting upright as I quickly searched around the room. I was alone now, and the TV was shut off, it wasn't dark yet, but twilight was upon us, the setting orange sun struggling to cast light through the clouds.

"Aria?" Dad's voice sounded through the house before he appeared in the doorway.

I rubbed my eyes; trying to remove the sleep from them before standing up. "Hi Dad." I smiled at him as he held his arms open for me.

"What are you doing here?" He asked after kissing the top of my head sweetly.

My dad was the most amazing father. I loved living with him. Don't get me wrong I wasn't choosing him over my mom, but things were just so much more relaxed here. There was no awkwardness like with Jesse and Mom.

Jesse was a carbon copy of my dad, despite his eye colour, just the younger version. Dad had deep set, almost black eyes and the silky, long, black hair to match, only a few grey hairs sprouting through. He was tall and had a strong build, much like Jesse though you could see that by Jesse's growth spurt he would soon overtake Dad.

"Jesse needed his schoolbooks that he had left at Mom's. I dropped them off, but I guess I fell asleep. Where is everyone?" I asked half expecting to hear them somewhere in the house, but I couldn't. I can't believe they just left me on my own.

"They are all outside playing soccer." Dad said waving his hand towards the back yard.

Well, it wasn't exactly a back yard. Just the land outside our house. Our house was secluded, the forest separating us from other houses on the Rez. It was fairly big, the four bedrooms in the house each having an en-suite to themselves, but I didn't like to brag.

Dad was a chef, he got paid well and he should do for the 2 hours commute he does each morning and evening. But he got most of his money from the inheritance his parents left. I don't remember them, they died in a car accident when I was two. I think they were both doctors, I'm not sure.

"Oh, I'll go join them then." He nodded at me as I left the room and made my way towards the back of the house. As I entered the kitchen the shouts from the boys could now be heard as they played.

Leaning against the rail on the back porch I watched them. Shirts versus skins and much to my gratitude Jake was skins. He wasn't bulky but was still one of the biggest boys in their group.

Jesse, Jared and Paul were the biggest, as they were eighteen, I just assumed they were having their final growth spurt. They had been working out a lot too, they got into it about four months ago and gained a lot of muscle very quickly.

Jake caught my eye and jogged over, ignoring the complaints of Embry and Quil as they were now down a player. "You're awake." He smiled up at me from the bottom of the steps. His russet skin was aglow with the setting sun and a thin layer of sweat covered his forehead as he panted.

"And you're sweaty." I acknowledged, my smile mirroring his as I stepped down a few steps and stopped at the last one, so I was slightly taller than him.

"Thanks." He laughed wiping his forehead with his forearm. "How's your head doing?"

I suffer from serious migraines. The pain is unbearable, and it can leave me bedridden for days sometimes. I've lost count of the amount of hospital and doctors' appointments I have had. I've had multiple scans but there's no explanation for why I get them to this extreme extent.

"It's been two weeks since my last one, been fine since." They usually happened once every few months.

"Good. It's so horrible seeing you like that." He said sullenly as he took a seat on the step by my feet. "I just want to know why it happens."

I took a seat beside he and looped my arm round his. "Look, lots of people just get migraines, some more severe than others. I'm just one of the really unlucky ones." I laughed lightly trying to brighten the mood and he gave me a small smile. "Cheer up dude! I'm fine." I exclaimed jumping up and grabbing his hands pulling him with me.

"Well yeah you're fine now." He rolled his eyes at me playfully but let me pull him back towards the boys.

"Sooooo stop worrying." I told him, giving him a big cheesy grin.

"You playing, Blue?" Embry called, and I turned around to face the rest of the guys.

"Yeah sure." I said before jogging over to them. "Skins, right?" I teased hooking my fingers under the bottom of my shirt.

"No!"

"Yes!"

I expected the protests, but I wasn't surprised to see Quil smirking and chuckling to himself as we all stared at him in amusement. He just couldn't help himself.

"You need help." Jesse mocked snatching the ball from Quil and shoved his chest. Quil stumbled back and ended up tripping himself up, a muted thud coming from his butt as it impacted with the hard ground.

We all fell into fits of laughter and eventually Quil joined in too. Nothing could get better than spending time with my boys.
