Chapter 11: Half Dead

At first, I felt nothing, it was like I had lost all my senses. I couldn't even open my eyes.

I tried to move my body, wiggle my fingers and toes at least, but I got nothing in response. Was I paralysed? Had that vampire just left me for dead in the forest? Well, I didn't think I was in the forest, it was too quiet.

For days it felt like I was stuck in that senseless coma-like state until I began to hear a light thumping noise once every few seconds. It began to grow louder, and then I could feel a pounding in my chest... it was my heart. Why could I hear my heart? Then I began to feel a movement all over the inside of my body, a flooding sensation as my heartbeat began to speed up. There was no way I could feel the blood pumping around my body. I wanted to scream, this had to be a dream.

My toes then began to tingle, and I took the risk again, after failing for what felt like a motionless eternity, and tried to move my foot. I was unlucky to begin with but then I got a twitch. I tried again. They moved ever so slightly.

Again and again I tried to move my toes and each time I got better results until eventually, I could move my feet normally. I proceeded to try and wake my whole body, it was becoming easier as I felt more and more blood reach certain parts of my system until suddenly I felt like I was suffocating.

I choked on nothing as it felt like someone was wringing the air out of my lungs. I tried to breathe in but it was like my body had forgotten how to. I could feel my face heating up as I panicked, I wanted to punch my own chest to try and get myself to breathe. Then suddenly I bolted up right, my lungs filled with air as I gasped, my eyes opening for the first time, the light blinding me for a moment.

The light streaming in blurred my vision and I reached up and rubbed my eyes with the backs of my hands until I could focus. I turned towards the light that was flooding in through the floor to ceiling windows on my right and all I could see were the tops of trees. Where the hell was I?

I looked back towards the room I was in to see if I could recognise it. It looked like an office, one wall was covered completely in books, some looking over hundreds of years old. Old paintings covered the walls, all of them disturbing, being either paintings of demonic creatures or sacrifices, all looking to be from medieval times or older. It was all very clean and very quiet. I hadn't been here before.

I shifted so I was sitting up right, my back now against the brown, leather couch I was laid on, my eyes focusing on everything at once. Everything was so detailed, nothing like it was before. I could smell everything too, a section of the window was opened letting in a small breeze. I could smell the freshness of the morning coming from the forest, I could hear the river rushing past, birds, bugs, animals, even leaves falling from the trees and hitting the ground.

What's happening to me? How can I go from feeling nothing to everything?

I allowed myself to stand and my eyes located a body length mirror in the corner of the room. I started towards it, meaning to take only a single step, but arrived in front of it almost immediately. As if time fast forwarded five seconds. I gasped when I saw my reflection.

I looked like me, but it wasn't... me. A better, perfect version of me was staring back. My hair was fuller and longer, I no longer had any split ends from where I'm always straightening it. It had changed colour too, it was no longer my usual dark brown colour, it was darker, almost black. My lips were a peachy pink colour and plump, I knew for sure I didn't have any make up on yesterday. My eyelashes were full too, like I had false lashes on, I even checked to make sure they were my own. The scar on my cheek from when I had chicken pox when I was six had disappeared, I no longer had any imperfections. But my biggest change was my eyes. My eyes were still blue and bright but around my pupil there was a blood red outer circle with the red seeping into the blue like spilt ink. It actually looked pretty, but it scared me.

What happened to me?

I began to hear voices coming from the other side of the door and my body swiftly turned to face it in panic. They were quiet as if they were standing in another room, but I knew they were right outside the door, I could smell them. It was sweet, like vanilla.

"How is her heart beating?" A voice spoke softly almost like a whisper. How can they can hear my heart?

"Carlisle, how is this even possible? What are we going to do about her family?" This voice was clear- wait Carlisle? As in Carlisle Cullen? And that was Edward's voice. "She knows we are outside the door." He said and I furrowed my eyebrows. How does he know that I know?

Oh my god. The Cullens. If vampires were real, that means Dad's stories about the Cullens were true. But that also meant that they didn't feed on humans, and the redhead was obviously against them.

"You can come in." I spoke up through the door. I wasn't scared of them. If they wanted to hurt me they would have already, who knows how long I had been here?

The door handle wobbled and in came Carlisle followed by Edward and then Emmett. They looked nervous. "Her eyes are partly blue!" Emmett's voice boomed as he came towards me, he got close so he could take me in properly. I stepped back as he moved forward. I may not have been scared but I was still wary.

"Are they not meant to be?" I asked nervously twiddling my fingers.

"No, they are meant to be fully red." Carlisle spoke this time, taking a seat on the couch, he was anxious. It didn't make me feel any better.

I couldn't be like them, I wasn't dead!

"This is so cool." Emmett grinned widely and I looked at him bewildered; this was all becoming too much.

"Emmett, please calm down." Edward said as he stood on the corner of the room, he looked... guilty.

"Wonder if I can take her." It was Emmett's voice, but it was quiet, like the whispering I heard earlier.

I turned to look at Emmett again, panic setting in again. Why was no one explaining anything?

"What do you mean take me? Why is no one saying anything?" I shouted, exasperated. My fists clenched by my sides as I could feel my temperature rising.

"How did you know-" Emmett looked at me completely confused but Edward cut him off.

"She can read minds." Edward spoke coming towards me and I stepped away from them again.

"What?" I looked at him like he was crazy.

"Now there's two of you." Emmett groaned.

"Can someone please tell me what is going on?!" I pleaded looking at the three of them, I felt like I was cornered, suffocating under their watch.

"Aria, could you take a seat. Calm down and we'll try to explain." Carlisle offered motioning to the arm chair across from him. Try to explain? "Okay so what I'm about to say is going to be a lot to handle but you have to stay calm." As if what had happened to me already wasn't a lot to handle. "Quileute's have legends about us that I'm sure you're aware of. What you think is legend is really the truth and as I'm sure you've figured out; your attacker was a vampire and so are we." It didn't comfort me at all. Just hearing it out loud from Carlisle's mouth just worried me even more. "I don't know how, and I don't know how to explain it, but you are a vampire, Aria."

My whole world came crashing down in that moment. I wanted to scream, burst into tears, tear my hair out, but my brain wasn't reciprocating.

"But... but vampires are dead, my heart is beating I can feel it. I'm warm I'm not dead I'm still me..." I just sat there stunned, my mouth was still moving but my whole body was motionless. How are you supposed to react to this? This couldn't be happening.

"We all reacted in different ways." Edward cut in and I scowled at him, he wasn't helping, and I guessed he could read minds too.

"That's the thing. You should be like us, dead that is, you should have red eyes not still partly blue. You should have a pallor to your skin, you should not still have your tanned complexion. Your heart shouldn't beat." Carlisle explained nervously and I felt defeated.

"But why?"

"Two nights ago, you were bitten. You shouldn't even be awake yet, a normal transition takes three days to complete. A bite transmits venom into the bloodstream that turns you into a vampire, however, you haven't transformed into a full vampire. You're still half human. I believe it's due to your heritage. Quileute genes are powerful and it seems that they have protected your vital organs from shutting down and allowing you to become a full vampire." This was too much information for me to grasp right now. How was this even possible, and how was the tribe involved?

"We don't know how. We'll just have to watch you and see how you develop." Edward cut in again.

"Will you stop answering my thoughts please!" I yelled, standing from my seat at lightning speed, the armchair toppled over and crashed to the ground behind me. This had to be a dream this couldn't be real. My eyes darted around the room quickly until they landed on double balcony doors to the side of the room.

"Aria don't!" Edward's voice was already behind me as I used my newfound speed to propel me towards the doors. I swung the grand doors open and didn't think twice as I dove over the balcony.

For some reason, I didn't even fear the landing, the instincts inside my body told me I would be okay. I stuck my landing, perfectly balanced on both feet before I took off. I was going to get as far away from the Cullens' house as possible.

This couldn't be happening to me. There was no way I was a vampire, or a half vampire or whatever he said back there. I had never believed my Dad's stories, and not for a second did I think they were real!

I ended up running far enough that I reached the river that acted as the treaty line between La Push and Cullen land. Would I even be able to go back home?

My legs gave way and my body slumped to the ground. My bottom lip began to tremble as my eyes pooled with tears. How can this be fair? I should have listened to my dad, I should have believed him. All of us kids were so stupid that we didn't believe something our parents felt so strongly about. If I had just listened to Jesse and Dad then none of this would have happened. If I had stayed away from the Cullens then that red head wouldn't have used me as revenge.

"Aria?" I jumped and shot round, sniffling as my eyes landed on Edward. He was alone and he held his hands up in front of him warily, showing he wasn't a threat.

"I should have believed them." I sobbed as I covered my face with my hands. I felt Edward move and sit beside me, his hand reaching over around my shoulder to comfort me.

"I'm so sorry Aria." I turned into him and let him hug me, my tears still falling.

We sat in silence for an hour, my tears not stopping as Edward watched the river ahead of us. I couldn't blame the Cullens for this, only myself. It was only my naivety that cost me my life.

"You're still part human. Remember that." Edward spoke up, breaking the silence. I pulled out of his hold and looked up at his pale, concerned face. "You're crying for one." He smiled sympathetically as he wiped my cheeks with his thumb, "we can't do that."

"How do you know what I'm thinking all the time?" My voice was hoarse from all the crying.

"I told you I'm good at reading people." He smiled again and I couldn't help but give in a give him a small smile. "I can read minds, and so can you."

"No, I can't." I sniffled, wiping my eyes a little more as some more tears had escaped.

"You can. Just look at me and listen carefully you'll be able to hear my thoughts." He instructed and I nodded, taking a deep breath and closing my eyes so I could focus more. After just a few moments his thoughts flooded into my head. "See. You blocked me out just before you ran away as well. I can't do that."

"I blocked you out?" I asked confused and he nodded.

"You wanted me to stop reading your thoughts and then I couldn't. Focus on trying to block me out again, it'll come in handy in big crowds. It can become overwhelming at first." He explained and I nodded, absorbing the information he gave me. I concentrated, just letting myself focus on not wanting to hear Edward's thoughts. "I can't hear your thoughts anymore." He grinned at me, letting me know I had succeeded.

"And I can't hear yours... Can most vampire's read each other's minds?" I was intrigued now, I guess the universe had to give me something after destroying my life.

"No, only you and I are the ones that I know of. Others are gifted though. Alice for example can see the future, and Jasper can manipulate a person's emotions." He explained and I found myself nodding again, at least we weren't the only ones that had gifts. Who knew vampires had gifts?

"Is that why he looks like he's always in pain?" I asked and he laughed shaking his head at me.

"No, he's new to the animal blood diet, the temptation of human blood is too much for him to handle at times." Edward laughed and I looked at him weirdly, the thought of drinking blood made my stomach turn. Edward noticed my grimace and became very serious. "Aria, are you thirsty?"

"What? Oh god no, I'm never drinking blood." I was repulsed with the thought.

"This is so strange." He laughed again, his features softening again. "A vampire that doesn't want to drink blood."

"Why do I have red in my eyes?" I had so many questions and now that I had calmed down slightly I was able to think.

"Vampires that drink human blood have red eyes, but vampires like us who feed on animals have gold. You're a newborn, a new vampire, so your eyes are red, the consumption of animal blood should turn them gold. But you still have blue in your eyes so maybe the colour will fade one day." I took note of what he said, my eyes could return to normal so that was good. "Don't take that to heart though, we've never come across someone like you before, so we aren't certain."

"Who was the woman last night?" I asked and Edward sighed angrily.

"Her name is Victoria. We killed her mate a few months ago after he tried to kill Bella, that was the reason why she left town and came back severely injured. We didn't realise she was following you until Alice had a vision that night, but we got to you too late."

"So Bella knows?" I asked and he nodded.

"Yes, she figured it out with some help from Jacob's scary stories." He gave me a small smile and I scowled at the ground.

"I knew that was a bad idea! Do my family know about me?" They must be so worried. I had been gone for two days now, how would they react to me? "Can I go back to them?"

"Not that I know of, and depending on how you can handle your thirst, you haven't been around humans yet." Edward said and I remembered the treaty. "You might have to stay here for a few days." I nodded again, how would we cover that up, do I say I ran away?

"They'll let me back though won't they, I'm family." I had to go back home eventually, everyone I love is there.

"You most likely will be, but if not you can stay here with us, you're a part of the family now... if you want to be." Edward said placing a hand on my shoulder and I smiled meekly at him. "They all think of you as just that."

"I'm stuck looking like this forever aren't I?" I closed my eyes trying not to get upset again over something I couldn't change.

"Presumably yes, but you're still part alive so you could still age. Only time will tell." He affirmed and I sighed. What was I meant to do for the rest of my life now? "Carlisle may be able to answer your questions a lot better than I can. He has been around for much longer than I have."

"Oh, how old are you really?" I asked and he looked to the floor slightly embarrassed.

"104. Carlisle is 365." He looked at me pointedly and my eyes widened.

"Wow." I couldn't even fathom being able to live for that long.

"We should get you back to the house, introduce you to everyone properly." He said standing from the ground beside me, brushing his jeans off before offering me his hand. "If that's okay with you of course?"

I stared up at him for a moment, watching him as he smiled down at me politely. I took his hand, the coldness being a drastic contrast to my hot skin. "Why's my skin so warm?" I asked after standing, touching my hands together to feel the heat.

"That's an answer we don't have, we thought you'd at least be slightly colder than the average human." It was scary to think that I was something these ancient vampires had never seen before. I still didn't understand how Quileute genes affected my change. "Now I've never met anyone faster than me. Newborns are much faster and stronger than older vampires and that lasts for about year. As a half human I'm not sure if that still applies to you." He had a mischievous smirk on his face, and I narrowed my eyes at him with curiosity. "Shall we test this?" He spoke quickly and then he was gone.

Was he racing me? Maybe he was trying to show me the perks of being a vampire?

I decided to go after him. My speed felt effortless, but I'd could feel my lungs gasping for extra oxygen and my heart beating wildly in my chest. When I ran away before I didn't pay attention to any of my surroundings, but now it was like I could feel everything. It was a whole new state of being.

At the speed I was travelling I was still able to focus on everything I passed. I could see everything that was around me, sense when I would hit something in my path when it was still hundreds of metres in front of me. Everything was more brighter and vibrant, the green of the trees was just unfathomable.

I was closing in on Edward, impressed by my footing of being able to catch up with him, we must have been travelling over hundreds of miles per hour. We were approaching a clearing, the bright sunlight beaming through the trees was growing ever closer. Edward reached it first and I almost lost my footing as I watched his pale skin sparkle like diamonds as the sun hit him.

"What!" I spluttered, my eyes shifting to look at my own skin as I felt the heat from the sun hit it. Thankfully I didn't sparkle, but my skin seemed to have a golden glow appear as the light hit.

"Something else that's different!" Edward shouted over his shoulder, most likely laughing at my bewildered expression. "You're not very fast are you!" He teased and I rolled my eyes at him, his mocking made me push myself to increase my speed.

I got closer and closer to him and his face was a picture when I finally overtook him. "You're not very fast are you!" I mocked, using his words against him as I went harder, turning to look back over my shoulder to see him falling behind.

A few seconds later the house came into view through the trees, and I slowed to a jog so I could admire the house properly. It was gorgeous. It had three floors, and each floor had glorious floor to ceiling windows. It was extremely modern and looked very open, which surprised me with how secretive the Cullens were.

Edward suddenly appeared next to me but strangely it didn't make me jump, it was like my mind and body already knew he was there. "They are all waiting for you." He informed me, looking at the house and then to me. "We all see you as family already. We know the difficulties concerning vampires and your tribe, if you ever feel unwelcome there you always have us. We will never judge you. We promise." I swallowed the lump in my throat as I looked up at him. My family was going to hate me.

Edward led the way; he ascended the steps first and held the wide glass door open for me. Directly in front of us was a large, wide staircase, and on the floor, there was one door on the left and two on the right. "Through this door is the garage. We have one separate from the house as well, Rosalie and I like to collect cars, but in here is where we keep our most frequently used ones." I had seen some of the cars around school and they looked very expensive, I couldn't imagine how much their joint collection cost.

"That room," he continued, motioning to one of the doors on our right. "Is our special office. We use it for our illegal handlings. Things like identity changes for example. It's mostly Jasper's forte, because that second room is his study." I nodded, repeating it over in my head so I wouldn't forget.

He then turned to the stairs, waiting for me to follow and then something caught my eye. "Graduation caps?" Edward laughed and I raised my eyebrows. "You guys have moved a lot I'm guessing?"

"It's fun yet tiring. Which is ironic as we don't sleep." I only prayed that I could still sleep, I wasn't tired now but the thought of never having a nap again sent a chill down my spine.

We continued up the stairs, there was a small landing before the stairs bent round a corner and continued by a few more steps until they reached the next floor.

This floor was very opened planned. There was a lounge, with a huge flat screen attached to the wall and plush sofas surrounding it. Just behind that, there was a grand piano next to one of the large windows. "I used to play the piano." I announced and Edward smiled.

"Maybe we can play together one day." He offered and I nodded, accepting the offer. On the other side of the room, there was a kitchen with a dining table. I raised an eyebrow at Edward quizzically. "For show." He answered, sticking his hands in his pockets. "But I guess it'll be used due to the newborn that doesn't have a craving for blood." He laughed again, like he couldn't get over it.

"I guess so." I laughed with him, it was contagious.

"On the other side of the stairs is Carlisle's study and private library. The room you woke up in was the study. There's also Jasper and Alice's room. Everyone else's rooms are upstairs." He explained with a roll of his eyes.

"Why's their room down here?" I asked noticing the eye roll.

"Their closet is bigger than their actual room. It wouldn't fit upstairs." He shook his head and I laughed. I'd love to have a look at it, I could only imagine all the the different styles in there from over the decades. "Are you ready to meet them all yet?" He asked and I nodded. Might as well get it over with.

After a few moments the Cullen family made their way down the second lot of stairs. It was the first time I had seen Mrs Cullen and she looked absolutely breathtaking just like the rest of them.

"I see that Edward calmed you down." Carlisle smiled warmly at me, putting his arm around his wife's waist.

"Yes he did. He also explained some vampire things to me." I explained and Carlisle nodded.

"She's quite different from us. She doesn't have the urge to feed and her skin doesn't react the same as ours when the sun hits it." Edward informed Carlisle and he seemed surprised, no doubt by the lack of blood lust.

"Extraordinary. If only we had more information on this." Carlisle appeared to be thinking before he shook his head and turned to his wife. "Aria, I would like to introduce to you my wife, Esme."

She had the same pale complexion as the rest of them, her frame small and slender. Her caramel hair fell around her face in long ringlets, ultimately just as beautiful as the other members of her family. "It's so nice to finally see you awake dear. We hope the experience hasn't been too frightening for you."

She left Carlisle's side and came forward to hug me, I surprised myself when I hugged her back but there was something about her that reminded me of Mom. I really needed a Mom hug right about now.

"Edward helped a lot. I guess I just needed a familiar face." I smiled at her and she reciprocated, I knew I'd like Esme.

"Good. My sweet boy." She stepped around me and kindly patted Edward's cheek making him laugh and grimace jokingly.

"Esme, please." Edward seemed slightly embarrassed and that made me smile. They seemed to act like a normal family.

"Oh stop. Anyway, Aria you know the rest of our children." She motioned towards the two couples that were stood slightly away from us.

I watched as Rosalie rolled her eyes, most likely from the fact that Esme called her a child. Rosalie had always kind of intimidated me, especially with how beautiful she was, and now, with these new heightened senses she looked even more flawless.

"I guess I'll go first." I had never heard Emmett talk before today and I tried to hide how his loud voice made me jump. Being this close to him I had never noticed how big he was. He must have been at least the same height as Jesse but he was a lot more broader. His biceps had to be at least the same size as my thighs.

He always seemed so angry, and it shocked me when a huge smile spread across his face when he reached me, his arms wrapped around my waist and hoisted me up into the air as he hugged me. "Oh my god!" I squealed as his booming laughter filled the air.

"Welcome to the family sis!" He dropped me back to the floor and looked over me with that wide smile still on his face.

"Oh, thanks." I was completely perplexed as I tried to regain my balance.

"Sorry if I freaked you out earlier." He apologised, crossing his arms across his tree trunk of a chest.

"Oh no, it wasn't you. It was just me." I smiled up at him wearily. I still hadn't gotten over his size.

"That's good to hear newbie." He slapped my back and I stumbled forward slightly. "Not very strong for a newborn are you?" He seemed disappointed at this.

"Give her chance Em, she's faster than I am." Edward intervened, giving me a wink.

"Well we shall test it later." He smirked at me and I furrowed my eyebrows at his excitement.

"Oh ignore him, you don't have to. He may possibly be the strongest vampire, but he just wants to boost his ego." Rosalie moved to stand next to Emmett, taking his hand in her own. "It's nice to meet you Aria." She smiled kindly at me and I returned it, though I couldn't help but notice that everyone was looking at her in shock. "I can be nice! And besides, she's pretty. We'll get along." I felt my cheeks heat up, I never expected to ever get a compliment from Rosalie.

"Hello Aria, I'm Alice. I would like to say that we'd be great friends and sisters, though I can't see your future anymore." I blinked at her, just about absorbing her words as she spoke so fast.

"Alice." Edward sighed in annoyance.

"Oh, it doesn't mean you're gonna die soon." I looked at her even more confused than I was when she first spoke. "I've only ever been able to see the futures of vampire and humans. Not both, like you. Don't worry, I'll keep trying."

I guessed my face was a picture as they all laughed at me as I just stared at Alice. What just happened?

"You'll get used to her." Jasper offered his hand out to me for me to shake. This was the first time I had seen him, and he didn't look in pain. "Welcome to the family."

"Thank you, all of you, really." I made sure I looked at all of them, showing each family member my gratitude. If my father's hatred was too much for me to stay at home I had a place to go.

"Esme and I have already begun talks about designing your bedroom. You're going to love it I promise." Alice beamed excitedly, she was just so small and cute.

"It's just that we can't let you go home yet." Esme spoke up, her facing showing sympathy. "You may not crave blood now but close proximity with humans and their scents may change that."

"What am I going to do? Do they know where I am?" I began to worry again, Dad, Mom and Tori must be going crazy and Jacob he'd be in pieces.

"There's a search for you around the town but not in the woods yet. They wouldn't think you'd go in there." Carlisle explained I nodded.

"Well what's my story gonna be when I go back?" I asked, I couldn't just turn up like everything as fine.

"You argued with Jesse before you left, running away might be a good excuse. You tried to reach your mother but turned back." Jasper offered and I agreed thinking it was a good solution.

"A few more days tops. Just to see if anything changes." Carlisle added and I agreed but my heart was breaking for my loved ones.

A low rumbling of an engine then filled the air, it was a sound I recognised but couldn't quite place. "Bella." Alice said worriedly. "I didn't see her decide to come here."

"Edward you have to get her to leave." Carlisle said urgently. "Jasper watch Aria." He ordered and Jasper nodded as everyone filtered out the room.

"Huh? What's happening?" I had obviously figured out Bella was approaching but I didn't understand the sudden panic.

"She's human. You're a a newborn. Your thirst may take over." Jasper explained and I frowned.

"I'll be fine I promise." I had smelt her scent by now, she didn't smell appetising at all. She just smelt like Bella, I could just smell her from further away.

I heard her truck stop and then Edward's frantic voice about telling her not to come here. She sounded so worried, her voice was breaking and she sounded like she was crying.

"Jasper just let me past I'll be fine." I begged but he kept his stance, blocking the doorway from me.

I remembered my escape from earlier, and subtly but quickly scanned the room for another balcony. My eyes locked onto a glass door just to the right of Jasper, and I knew that if I jumped down out of it I'd be out the front of the house. I looked at Jasper again and his posture had changed to a more relaxed one when I guess he thought I wasn't going to run. He was definitely going to be caught off guard.

Bella's protests continued to ring out, and when Edward raised his voice, Jasper's head turned towards the stairway. This was my chance.

I made a dash for it, reaching the door handle and pulling it open quickly before closing it behind me. Jasper was right behind me, his hands on the other side of the handle trying to force it open. "She's outside!" I heard Jasper shout through the glass and then suddenly Carlisle was next to him.

"Aria!" He said sternly yet calmly. They really thought I was going to kill Bella.

I released the handle and spun around to face the balcony railing. In the split second that I heard the click of the door opening, I hurdled myself over the railing. I felt the swoosh of air around me until I landed perfectly fine on the driveway below. I could actually get used to that.

The family all stood frozen watching me, Edward holding Bella protectively behind him, her eyes wide with panic and shock. "Aria, you need to go back inside." Esme said slowly, holding her arms up as she walked towards me.

"Esme, I'm fine. I swear." I took a deep breath in showing everyone I was absorbing Bella's scent and that it had no effect on me. "See!"

Jasper and Carlisle had joined the rest of the family by now, their expressions portrayed astonishment and confusion. Esme looked to Carlisle for an explanation, but he shrugged, he had nothing.

"A vampire that doesn't want blood." Edward said again, giving me a small smile before my eyes shot down to Bella.

"Hey Bells." I smiled at her warmly, I didn't want her to be scared of me.

She stepped away from Edward and moved forward a few steps, she glanced back at Edward momentarily before running towards me, wrapping her arms around my body. "I'm so happy you're okay! I've been so worried. Edward had told me nothing." She snapped, glancing back over her shoulder.

"I'm fine... kind of." My bottom lip began to tremble as my voice wavered. "I don't want to be a vampire." She held me tighter and stroked my back as I cried.

"It's okay. You'll be okay." She consoled me as the family watched.

After a few minutes I gathered myself together, standing up straight and wiped the tears from my face. I guess random outbursts of sobbing were going to become a regular thing. I just hoped my hormones had not been elevated along with everything else.

I met Edward's eyes, and his face was painted with guilt, if he hadn't fallen for Bella this wouldn't have happened to me. However, I should have listened to my dad anyway, he told me to stay away, and I didn't listen.

"Charlie is going to start a search in the woods. Your Mom is also trying to get a flight home, your dad didn't tell her until yesterday." Bella explained and my eyes shot to Carlisle.

"Carlisle you have to let me go home. Let them see that I'm okay." I begged, vampire speeding over to him so we were face to face. He hesitated for a moment, not saying a word.

"You can't seriously be thinking about it. She's a newborn." Jasper intervened and I scowled at him.

"I'm fine with Bella. Please." I ignored Jasper's comment and turned back to Carlisle.

"Bella is one human. There will be a crowd of people." He snapped and I glared at him.

"I don't know what your deal is, but if I was craving human blood I would have found a human to feed on by now." I spat, feeling a rage consume me as I tightened my fists.

"Jasper back off. She'll be okay." Carlisle held a hand up to Jasper, motioning for him to calm down. "He knows a lot about newborns. He's just being wary." He said to me this time, my hands relaxing as I unclenched my fists.

"We need a new cover story. If Mom's coming home they know I'm not with her." I said, rubbing my forehead in agitation. Why is this happening to me?

"We need to do something about her eyes too." Rosalie spoke up and Bella gave her a weird look, what was that about?

"I'll be back." Alice said quickly before she sped off, my eyes flittering to Edward hoping he would explain.

"She's gone to get eye contacts." It was like it was a reflex for him as he couldn't read my mind to see what I wanted.

"They haven't searched the woods yet. Why don't you say you got lost and fell and hit your head?" Emmett offered the idea and Jasper scoffed.

"Then they'll want to get her head checked. They'll see she's perfectly fine." He countered with a smug expression.

"Then I'll make sure I'm at the hospital." Carlisle added and Emmett smirked.

"So, I got lost and my phone died. Ended up staying in the woods that night. The next morning, I tried to find my way back and tripped and smacked my head. Didn't wake up until this morning?" I needed confirmation. I couldn't trip over my words when explaining myself.

"Yes. Sounds about right. You need to be strong Aria, if you even feel an inkling of the need to feed you need to get yourself out of there. You cannot expose yourself." Carlisle warned seriously.

"I understand. I promise I'll do as you say." I swore and then suddenly Alice appeared next to me, a brown paper bag clutched in her hands.

"I didn't know how many you needed so I emptied out the store." She explained before placing the bag on the floor and taking a pack out. "Hold still for me. These will itch like crazy at first, and they'll need replacing every few hours. The venom in your eyes will melt them away." She explained as she placed the blue contacts over my eyes.

"How do I look?" I asked, blinking quickly as I tried to ignore the subtle sting.

"Like normal." Bella answered, giving me a small smile.

"Okay, I guess I'll go. I'll remember what you said." I promised and Carlisle nodded.

"I'll meet you at the hospital." Carlisle turned back into the house. Most likely going to get ready for work.

"We'll see you soon dear." Esme gave me a small wave before she ushered the rest of the family into the house as well.

"I'll drive you to La Push, I can drop you on the outskirts of the forest." Bella said as she began walking to her truck. "I'll see you later Edward?"

"Yeah." He gave her a brief smile before going into the house as well. What was all that's about?

"Come on Aria, let's get you home."
