Red.

Red is all Katsuki could see with his blurry vision. It was late and his body was telling him to fall asleep, but he refused to. And the consequences for that is now he couldn't clearly see Izuku's mark. He blinked, rubbing his palms against his eye lids and peered back at Izuku. He wasn't imagining it. The mark was red. Not brown, not blue, not grey, not green, hell it wasn't even some normal eye color! It was red! How many people could have red eyes? And that color. It seemed so...so familiar. However, many people could have red eyes...for christ's sake, it could be someone he didn't even know yet. It could be some extra he passed on the street, or maybe they lived across the world, Katsuki wouldn't know. Wait- why does Katsuki's even care? It's not like he's ever cared about this before. He never cared about soulmates. 'Just some useless mark that forces people to believe in true love' is what Katsuki normally said about the matter, but why now was he acting like he actually gave a damn? It's not his place to care, he would have his own mark, one that isn't green, and live his life like he had planned to since he was 8. Live alone, he didn't need people in his life to be happy or okay. Become number one and beat everyone in his path. Show people he mattered. Not that he needed their opinion on him...he just- well...okay maybe he kinda cared. Praise is what drives him to act, it fueled his pride and that's all he needed. At least that's all he thought he needed...

Even with all these thoughts swimming in his head, Katsuki still took a closer inspection on the mark, making sure Izuku didn't notice him staring. He couldn't exactly decipher what the soulmates quirk might be. It's not like it wasn't detailed, it's just that without any color other then red it didn't actually have much detail. At least at first it appeared that way, but after a few second, Katsuki noticed that there was small details in a light orange. Again, the color seemed so familiar to Katsuki, like he'd seen it hundreds of times before. If I know them, then who could it be? Katsuki wanted to reach out and lightly take Izuku's wrist to see if he could understand what the mark was shaped like.

It had two spiked masses and Katsuki could tell there was better detail to them but he was too far away to get a good look at it. If he could guess what it appeared to look like...almost like explosions? Or maybe just that was Katsuki's imagination playing tricks on him. For all he knew, it could mean to represent a damn red bush. A spikey bush... Maybe? But it didn't look like a bush- WAIT! Maybe Kirishima? Red eyes, and hell, that could pass for a rock. Kirishima had cracks all over when he hardened his body, so maybe it was meant to represent that? Or maybe Katsuki was just looking way too much into this. There was way to many holes in that conspiracy, not to mention Kirishima had a yellow mark for crying out loud! So who could it be? (EXCUSE ME BUT THIS DENSE LITTLE MOTHER FUCKER-)

Izuku moved his arm, admiring the mark. His mother had said it seemed his soulmate was pretty healthy since there wasn't too much detail on each one. Now that he took a closer look at it, there was way more detail then he first saw. His mark could very much still be some what appearing, so it wasn't that big of a deal. But what if it got even more detailed then this? The color seemed almost homey to Izuku. It reminded him of his childhood for some reason, and it just made him feel...warm. Like he was sitting in front of a fireplace, sipping on a cup of scolding hot coco while being swaddled in a warm fuzzy blanket. It felt...right. And something deep down in Izuku made him feel like he had seen this color of eyes before...but he just couldn't pin point who it was. Izuku never makes eye contact with people. He learned quickly that his father didn't enjoy him looking him straight in the eye, so he just kinda stopped doing it. It happened to follow him into his normal life too and soon he found himself not looking anyone in the eye. He never got a good view of peoples eyes, so he was just going out of memory from a year ago. But no one he thought of really fit the color exactly, and even if he thought they were close, the shape of the mark made them immediately out. Such as Kirishima. He had red eyes, a lighter red then the mark, but still close. But even without taking his already developed mark into consternation, he just didn't fit it. His quirk didn't fit the mark at all.

It reminded Izuku of those cartoony explosions that he would see in his comic books. (holy shit both of them are so god damn dense I'm so sorry, they are stupid) And that made the mark have even more of a homey feeling to Izuku. He sighed as he traced his pale finger around the outline of each of the two masses. Admiring how the coppery orange mixed with the red to create deeper detail, adding some shading to each of them. It wasn't the most detailed mark Izuku had ever seen, but he could tell this person had a few of their own personal demons but... Izuku felt the need to help them through it, and it would probably benefit his own mental heath too in the long run. The orange even faded out around the two masses, mixed with a bit of red and it appeared almost like smoke admitting from them. It wasn't much, and that made Izuku glad. He also noticed that his scars that used to be there were gone, as if the mark had also healed his cuts. Tears welded up in Izuku's eyes and he just couldn't hold them back. Silently, the tears leaked out and fell down into his lap. He pushed his left hand across his face, wiping the tears away, but he stopped as he felt a warmer, slightly calloused hand wipe gently across his cheek. (okay why the fuck does that sound so weird)

Izuku glanced up at Katsuki and gave him a small weak smile. The blonde hummed and continued to gently rub away the greenettes tears. He still wore his signature scorn but even Izuku could tell it held no malice, and if Izuku would actually look Katsuki in the eyes, he would notice the sympathy, care, and affection that gleamed in his scarlet orbs. Izuku melted into the blondes touch and hesitantly leaned into the touch. The male next to him felt his heart beat attack his rib cage and his scorn immediately turned into a light smile. Izuku scrunched his nose up at the change, teasing the blonde. He smirked at the greenette and pushed a strand of his curly green hair behind his ear. The two boys shared their moment, neither of them pulling away, neither of them noticing as they got lost in each other's embrace, and neither of them paying any mind to their surroundings.

So neither of them noticed as Mitsuki popped out of Inkos room and went to call them, but stopped with her jaw hanging open as she noticed the scene that just was presented to her. She blinked rapidly, thinking her eyes were tricking her. To no avail however, as when she opened her eyes once again she was met thIs the same scene of her son, one she had never seen being affectionate or kind to a soul, comforting the boy she thought her son seethed. What type of nightmare dream is this?

Their moment stopped however when Mitsuki closed her mouth with a loud clank of teeth, alerting the boys of her presence. They immediately pulled back, both of them turning a light shade of pink. Mitsuki continued her gawking, not saying anything. "Old hag?" Katsuki snapped his fingers and stood up from his chair. Izuku frowned at his loss of warmth but followed behind the blonde. "Is everything okay with auntie? Why're you just standin' there?" Mitsuki calmed down after a second and cleared her throat. "Uh- Inko wants us all in here." She pointed behind her into Inkos room and glanced around the hall. "Hey brat, where is your father?" She questioned, still peering around the place for her husband. "Like I would know." He answered quietly, his normal tone dropping as he pushed passed his mother and into Inko's room.

"Katsuki! It's been too long." Inkos disheveled form commented, greeting the blonde with a warm smile. One that looked all so similar to her sons smile. The smile Katsuki wants to see more then anything. "H-hey auntie..." He greeted in a whisper, hesitantly stepping closer to Inkos bed. "Come sit! I don't bite!" Her voice cracked, effort being placed into her voice. Her eyes were red and swollen, making it very obvious what she was doing a few minutes ago. She patted the space on her bed, motioning for Katuski to take a seat. He shakily sat down on her white sheets.

Mitsuki took two chairs from the side of the room and placed them next to Inkos bed, and Izuku gladly took one of them, as Mitsuki sat next to him. They all sat in dense silence, all of them waiting for someone to start a conversation. After a little Katsuki just couldn't hold back from what's been on his mind for awhile now.

"I'm sorry, so sorry." He whispered, tears threatening to fall from his scarlet eyes, but he forced them back.

Inko cocked her head to the side slightly, questioning him. "What are you sorry for?" She asked, letting out a light chuckle with little to any humor in it.

"I just- I just can't help but feel like I could've prevented this..." He whispered, staring blankly at his hands. So many emotions and memories swam around in his head and he felt it become difficult to breath.

"Oh hunny," She weakly placed her hand atop the blondes. "There was nothing you could've done, you had no idea this was going to happen." She closed her eyes lightly, giving him another warm smile.

"No."

"No-" Katsuki felt his hands begin to shake. "I- I knew... I saw... But I was too dense and too much of idiot to think of what I could do." He whispered, a tear rolling down his face. Inko glanced into his eyes but she couldn't tell exactly what the blonde was feeling, anger, sadness, horror, and pain is the most she could tell. "W-what do you mean, Kacchan?" Izuku asked from his chair.

"A few days ago... While I was on a nightly jogs to calm down... I-" He paused, taking a deep breath. " Your house felt weird, different. Something seemed off about it... and my instincts kicked in. I- I walked up to your door and was about to knock when I heard...stuff that definitely wasn't meant to happen." He whispered and he heard Izuku take a steep inhale. "I left it at that, and tried to forget about it...I was so confused, but some things clicked after that. And so...so when Deku finally came back to school on Friday, I wanted to make sure he would be okay..." He sighed, uncomfortable with sharing what happened, since he was still not even completely sure what happened. "He's a horrible man, fucked up." He began shaking again, and Inko grasped his hand gently. "I'm sorry- I'm so sorry! If I wasn't so dumb then I would've been able to save you too! I- I'm-" His tears finally began to fall and he pushed off the bed, turning around to cover his wet face.

"It's not your fault." Inko said with a caring tone. "You saved Izu, and that's more then I could've ever asked from you, thank you Katsuki." She smiled through her tears. Izuku got up slowly from his chair and silently stepped towards Katsuki. The blonde wiped the last of his tears away and went to turn around, immediately being met with Izuku. The greenette embraced him in a warm hug, wrapping his arms around his neck and standing on his tippy toes to rest his chin on Katsuki's shoulder.

"It's not your fault." He whispered. Katsuki hesitantly wrapped his arms around Izuku's waist. The greenette made no movement of discomfort or to move when his arms lightly wrapped around his wast so he pulled him closer, their chests flush together as they both let their tears silently fall. After a few seconds, Katsuki calmed down mostly and finally became aware of the growing wet patch on his shoulder so he lightly drew calming circles on Izuku's back. They swayed lightly side to side as both of their mother gave each other a knowing glance before smiling at their sons exchange.

Izuku calmed down, his sobs coming to end. But he didn't make any movement to leave Katsuki's arms, and neither did Katsuki. The blonde began to unwrap his arms but Izuku just responded by pushing closer to him and tightening his grip around Katsuki's neck. Katsuki sighed and let out a small smile as he noticed the latter wasn't ready to let go just yet. He picked Izuku all the way up, lifting him off the ground. Izuku yelped and gave Katsuki's neck a death grip. He instinctively wrapped his legs around Katsuki's waist, embarrassing both of them. Katsuki wasn't complaining though.

He walked over to Inkos bed and sat down, lowering Izuku into his lap. He gradually accepted his spot, loosening his grip on his neck a bit. "So...Izu, your mother told me you got your mark..." Mitsuki began after a few seconds of admiring them. Izuku's flicked up to meet Mitsuki's eyes on accident. That color- He had been dazed and he wasn't paying enough attention. He flinched back, holding his stomach as if he had been punched in the gut. "Sorry!" He blurted out, his eyes glazing over as he got ready for the punch he was expecting to come his way...

Any second now...

He slowly peeled his eyes open hesitantly, calming a tad bit when he felt Katsuki tighten his grip around his waist.

The hit never came.

"Deku, you okay?" Katsuki whispered with concern. "Is it about your mark?" He suddenly blurted without thinking. What was he saying? What was even asking? "W-What? No!" Izuku suddenly calmed down, still breathing hard. "Sorry auntie, I uh-" Mitsuki leaned forward and lightly grabbed his hand. "It's okay." She said calmly, flashing a him a sympathetic smile. Izuku rubbed his wrist, confusion bursting through his head as he no longer felt his scars. He glanced down, realization drifting along his features.

He slowly let go of his wrist, shakily moving it in front of himself, allowing Mitsuki to get a good look at his mark. Katsuki also leaned his head over Izuku's shoulder to get a better view.

Realization dawned on Mitsuki's face as she calmly lifted her gaze up to her son, taking a moment to glance at his eyes.

Mitsuki felt like she was hit by a fucking bus.

Sorry that it's kinda short :/
