The Censure
Any teenager will agree that the best feeling is when you do something wrong and you get hurt but your parents can't be really mad about it because well, you're hurt. I'd forgotten about my bandages and was more worried about my mom. As I rushed to get her up I accidentally bumped my arm on the door and my wound started bleeding again. This was a real disaster.
~***~
"Honey why didn't you call your us we would've come to pick you up." My mom was seated on the edge of my bed by my feet on the verge of tears.
"I left my phone here and I didn't hear dad tell me to get gas but it's all good I'm back home, injured but alive."
You're probably wondering how in the world did I get away with a gunshot on the arm without getting into trouble. After we finally got my mom to wake up and my wound to stop bleeding the rushed me to replay what happened well actually more like demanded for me to tell them.
I simply told them I ran out of gas then a random guy I didn't know offered me a lift and because it was raining I didn't find spot anything weird or suspicious so got into the car with him. As soon as I got into the car he put a blind fold over me and I was injected with an unknown substance and I passed out. I told them I don't remember anything after that I just remember waking up in a hospital with a killer headache.
Technically I wasn't lying I just might have exaggerated some parts and added a little spice over others but otherwise it wasn't THAT big of a lie. This was the first time I'd ever lied this much to my parents and I didn't even really feel that bad because it was for a good cause. My parents eventually left my room after bombarding me with thousands of questions that I had to skillfully dodge. It felt good to be back home in my own bed and all the tension and exhaustion of the past week finally got the best of me and I fell into a deep sleep.
I was woken up by a very loud teenage boy screaming my name I squashed my face into my pillow as I internally groaned.
"Leigh your alive, dammit now I can't get your room." He practically screamed into my ear.
"No, I'm not alive just a good ol'ghost guarding it's old room you know." I rolled my eyes so far back I was scared they were going to stay there.
"I'm just kidding, are you actually okay though you had everyone freaking out. Turned the whole school upside down." He genuinely looked concerned as he took a quick glance at my wound.
"Wait what do you mean turned the school upside down?" I shot up quickly from my bed dismissing my wound.
"Well everyone thought you were kidnapped since no one knew where you were, they even cancelled the game." This was the most serious I'd ever seen my brother his eyebrows were furrowed and he was frowning so he really wasn't joking.
"Okay...but why did they cancel the game? Still doesn't make sense to me, it could've gone on just fine without me." I was genuinely confused as to why they were making this such a big deal.
"The boys refused to play until you got there and we waited but after half an hour we realized you weren't going to show. Mom and Dad came after that thinking they missed your performance but when they arrived people thought you came with them after that everyone started getting concerned. Since it was only a friendly and the boys wouldn't play they cancelled plus people were frantic and everyone just wasn't in the mood. They decided to send search parties out and that's when we found your car after that things went haywire. They sent everyone home but we couldn't even do anything since the police told us we have to wait 48 hours before filing a missing persons case." By the end of his explanation he was sitting next to me and staring at the floor frowning as he recalled the events.
Any sane person would obviously call the hospitals to check anyone brought me in, and I definitely was in a hospital so why couldn't they find me sooner if I had been there for over a week. None of this made sense as I continued to overanalyze the situation he carried on with his story.
"Mom and Dad checked all the hospitals to see if anyone had brought you in. They all said no except one hospital. They said they can only check the public area but they legally aren't allowed to release information of patients in the Private Area." He rolled his eyes as he said the last part, he obviously found ridiculous.
So that explains why the hospital room looked so fancy, it's one of the private suits in that hospital which explains why they couldn't find me.
"Well it's over now I just hope the school isn't too crazy when I get back. I hate attention and would hate it even more if people gave me pity stares." I shook my head and drew my lips into a thin line.
"Too bad it's too lat—" There was a knock at the door, only my dad would knock and I doubt his home and Kiwi is definitely not the type she would probably just barge in here and demand an explanation. I stopped overthinking and after a couple of seconds spoke.
"Come in." I sat upright and stared at the door with furrowed eyebrows waiting for the stranger to come in.
Dressed in blue jeans and a plain white tee was Liam accompanied by a bunch of roses and a box of chocolates. My throat became constricted as I struggled to keep in a small gasp.
"Well this is my que to leave, remember to cover the willy kids." He smirked and wiggled his eyebrows in a teasing manner.
"Jack! Just get out." I rolled my eyes at his antics but could not manage to keep the blush from spreading over my cheeks.
He stood up and left after doing his signature handshake with Liam. Liam closed the door and placed the flowers and chocolates on the chaise on top of one of my many books.
The room was filled to the brim with tension neither of us daring to break it. We gave each other longing stares for what seemed like hours but in reality was probably only a few minutes, seconds even. He eventually broke the ice first.
"I was so scared, scared I'd never be able to fix things between us and the last memory I'd have of you, is you saying good bye and that thought made me so so scared Lee." He moved from the chaise and sat on the edge of my bed with what seemed like a genuine emotional on his face being care.
"Why are you here?" It was harsh but I wanted to know the real reason. He ignored my question and just carried on speaking, I rolled my eyes in annoyance.
"The moment I saw you were running late I knew something was wrong. You're late to everything but games because I know how much singing is important to you."
" Everything became worse after your parents showed up and you weren't with them because that meant something was really really wrong. We searched high and low for you for hours Lee. Where did you go?" He took my hand in his and slowly caressed it but at the same time glaring at my hands.
"When you're mom called me to tell you, you were back home I knew this was God giving me a second chance. I fucked up and he's giving me a chance to fix things with you Lee, to make it right. I realised we never know how much time we have left here on earth and we should make the most of it. I wouldn't want anyone else besides you by my side." He scooted closer and kissed my hand as his kisses slowly trailed up my arm I harshly pulled away from his grip.
He really annoyed me, I was so tired and he had the nerve to come here and tell me all this bull and since when is he all holy believing in God and signs and what not. If anything he's as atheist as they come.
"Liam, I've had a bullet gone in and out my arm , a God knows how long surgery and stitches that hurt every time I simply just breathe. My head is pounding and my eyes feel like their going to shut down and never open. Did you really have to do this right now?" I was glaring daggers at him.
At this point I was frustrated with Liam because it's always about him and what he needs and he never takes what I want into consideration. He has never asked how do you feel about what I've said or what do you suggest we do. I was too tired to even entertain the thought of him.
" I know baby and I'm so sorry this happened. You don't have to give me an answer straight away, heal and take your time but just know that you're mine." He stood up and gave me a light peck on the forehead and he was out before I could even respond.
I rolled my eyes at his possessiveness, who does he think he is. All I seem to be doing is rolling my eyes and it's concerning. It just took means there's something wrong with everyone around me.
All the thinking and conversating I did made me exhausted I laid down on my bed as I welcomed the darkness.
