"The prominent Senator Akachi's Daughter Chika Akachi got involved in a fight with a fellow teen in a birthday party thrown by Chioma Okoro, The daughter of a renowned politician and a renowned fashion designer. The teen spilled a drink all over Miss Akachi and she received a slap hereafter."
I was so stunned when I saw Chika defending herself online.
"Her name is Eliza. She has always had it out for me since I got to that party. She intentionally, spilled that drink on my white dress ruining it. I was so angry that I slapped her on impulse. I've never acted so impulsively like that."
She turned away from the reporter and towards the screen.
"Eliza, i'm so sorry for slapping you and i'm so thankful for Isaac Okoro, he had to calm her, if not she would've done much worse"
Her eyes glistened and a tear escaped her eyes.
Her mother that was beside her consoled her and told the media.
"Since she was a baby, she had been envied by so many. She has been bullied but seeing how sweet and gentle she is, she tolerated everything. Seeing how she has suffered and I can't be with her everyday. I told her to stand up for herself and defend herself. I'm so proud of her for what she did"
I couldn't believe my eyes, they just turned everything against me like i'm some bully.
I tapped the comment box. I started seeing hateful comments.
"That girl deserved that slap"
"Chika has always been the envy of all girls. I totally envy that girl and everything that she has"
"That girl is a b....... What's her name again, Eliza right?"
My eyes glistened as I read further comments. I didn't know when tears started streaming down my cheeks. I continued reading.
"Who invited that girl anyway?"
"It was Chioma Okoro's party. The daughter of the highest contender for the Governor of Imo State"
My phone started ringing, it was my aunt.
"Eliza, gịnị ka m na-anụ? Gịnị ka ha na-ekwu gbasara gị? ( what am I hearing? What are they saying about you?)"
My aunt was like my mom, reverting back to Igbo whenever they were mad or pissed off about something. As usual, I couldn't speak Igbo so I replied in English.
I didn't know how to recount the whole experience without bursting into tears.
"Is that how you got that scar I saw that night?!"
"Yes" My voice shook.
"Is your mother aware of this?"
"No"
"Why! Nini mere I gwabe ya( why haven't you told her?) O giwa ka ha mejoro, o wu gi (you're the victim here not her)" She said using that Owerri dialect i've always heard when travelling to the village.
"She'll probably see it online anyway. Everybody will see it" I cried.
Now I know what Isaac was talking about that night. I thought.
"That's nonsense! Those kids are all spoilt! Even those girls you call your friends. Have you heard from them?"
"No"
Only Isaac I thought.
"I think it's time you change friends. They've all deserted you when you need them the most!"
"Aunty, gini ka m ga-eme? ( what should I do?)" I cried out trying out the only Igbo that I knew. It tasted foreign in my lips.
But I cared less, I was so distraught and confused.
"I take it you didn't go to school today?" She asked me lowering her voice.
"No" I cried out. I knew something like this would happen. I just didn't know it would be huge like this.
"I would advice you to go to school tomorrow, go straight to the principal's office and tell her everything that happened and let all hell break loose! Inula ihe m kwuru?( Did you hear what I just said?)" She asked raising her voice again.
I replied yes. I could sense her angry tone.
She hung up the call.
I retried Chioma's number countless times but it was unavailable.
I tried Ebube and Amaka's line, the same thing.
What is going on? I thought. I didn't want to believe my aunt's words about my friends deserting me. I didn't want to.
I heard a buzz from my phone. It was a text from Isaac.
'Are you okay?'
I dropped the phone, I didn't want to reply him. I didn't know what to tell him.
I heard another buzz again.
'I'm so sorry for what happened. Can I call you?'
I didn't want him to call me, I would probably cry again. No one has ever seen or heard me cry, except my family members.
I've always been this strong girl.

The next day, my mom barged into my room, startling John. She looked at me for a very long time.
My eyes misted over.
"Get dressed. We're going to school" She said with that angry and determined expression I've always known.
I sprang up from my bed immediately.
I knew she had found out. I knew she was going to cause a scene and I braced myself for it.
Let all hell break loose, right?
