2: Icebreaker
Only my eighth day of work, oh boy.
How a snowman could even eat solid food, I wasn't sure. I packed Olaf's ice cream into a bucket before exiting the Creational Creatures kitchen and approaching the door to his exhibit. I used the key I was given to unlock it before pulling it open. Workers were supposed to be careful the character didn't try to escape once any exhibit door was opened, but Olaf wasn't bright enough to do that so I was pretty safe.
Did I say safe?
As I stepped inside and shut the door behind me, I immediately slipped on the ice coating the floor. I shrieked as I fell backward, my back slamming into the freezing ground. Small snowflakes settled on my face and hair. I blinked some of them off of my eyelashes to find a goofy looking snowman leaning over me, a silly grin on his face.
I sat up, rubbing my back and wincing. A small shiver made its way down my back. "This is going to break every bone in my back if I keep falling like that."
Olaf gave a goofy chuckle, his stick hands spreading out as he declared, "I don't have-"
"Yes, I know," I said, smiling slightly. "You don't have a skull or bones."
The comical snowman let out a gasp, visibly shocked. "You can read my mind!"
I laughed and shook my head. "Eat your breakfast."
He picked the bucket up with a "thank you" and moved to sit in the patch of sunlight near the corner of the exhibit. I quickly followed him. "Woah, no! Don't sit there."
"But I love summer," Olaf argued, "and all things hot!"
"If you sit there, I will confiscate your nose," I warned.
He frowned and moved to sit on the ice instead as he mumbled, "I don't even know what "confiscate" means."
I couldn't help but grin. Olaf had always been one of my favorite Disney sidekicks. Meeting him in person was in all honesty exciting. He acted just like his character. But I wondered what the actor who played his voice would think if he came here and heard that, even in reality, Olaf has his voice.
I slipped back out of the exhibit and locked the door before brushing the snow off of my clothes and rubbing my back again. The neighboring exhibit that I was to tend to next held BFG. The exhibit was upgraded so that it could fit the giant into it. I took a deep breath and moved toward it, thankful that the BFG really was a friendly giant.

I watched as the visitors rushed around in fascination. ComplexDisney averaged at least 27 thousand visitors a day. With real characters to see as well as plenty of attractions to keep children entertained, it really was a hotspot. It was basically as large as Disneyworld, as well, so that didn't hurt. Each separate park was basically the ComplexDisney version of Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios...only, there were hiking paths between the parks instead of everybody having to take transports. Definitely an exercise but we could all do with a long hike. Plus, each park - Creational Creatures, Royal Rounds, Ordinarily Disney, Animal Island, and VillaVillains - were crammed closer to each other than Disneyworld's areas.
Since the three creatures who I was mainly in charge of were content, I had been directed to to sit on a bench so that visitors could easily approach with any questions they may have had. If they really love Disney, shouldn't they already know the answers to their questions?
"How is working here?"
I swiveled around to find Zeke sliding onto the bench next to me. I turned my attention back to Stitch's exhibit. "Fine. I can't say ordinary since none of this is ordinary. How was your day of work?"
Zeke gave me a humorous look before shrugging. "Normal. VillaVillains isn't exactly the happiest park to work with. Mother Gothel kept threatening me because I wasn't giving her extra food."
My lips twitched at his words. I shook my head, balancing my elbows on my knees. Even if Zeke wasn't as bad as I thought, I still wore a better outfit than yesterday's. I had also taken the time to clip my hair up into a bun. "Will I ever meet Stermin and Ykell?"
My boss watched a large family buy some cotton candy from a shop, the children squealing with excitement. "I don't know. I've only met them twice."
"Were they nice?"
"Nice enough."
"You're very vague," I huffed.
He smiled, glancing at me. "Thank you."
I rolled my eyes. "That wasn't a compliment." A pause. "How old are you?"
He cocked an eyebrow at me. "Why?"
"Curiosity, duh."
"Twenty-one. Turned twenty-one last month."
Young for a supervisor. I nodded before turning my attention to the people still swarming through the gate. Most of them were families with children who were excited to see their favorite Disney characters alive and real. Not all Disney characters were there, though, so I wondered if anybody ever got disappointed.
Static sounded from Zeke's small walkie-talkie and he pulled it off of his belt. I turned my attention to it.
"New characters have just arrived," a female's voice sounded from the other end. "It appears to be the dog from Old Yeller and his owner."
I blinked in surprise. That's an old movie. Zeke sat back, clearly having gotten used to these announcements. He lifted the walkie-talkie to his lips and pressed the button on the side. "Good. Thanks, Iris. Get them cleaned up and put the dog inside Animal Island and the boy over in Ordinarily Disney."
"You got it."
I crossed my legs. Ordinarily Disney was the park for the characters who didn't have any magic, royal blood, or anything done with them. It was for the characters who were really just normal people. Who, if they lived in our world, would fit in.
"Are you used to characters just arriving every day?" I finally asked.
"Yeah." Zeke closed his eyes. "Some of them I don't even know, but it's fun to take guesses at who could come next."
"Do you even want to end all of this?"
He rubbed his leg. "This again? Look, don't talk about this if you want to keep your job."
I scowled but refrained from saying more. He was right. I was the one who got a job here to earn money. If all the characters went back home, I would be jobless once again. My family needed this money.
"Does ComplexDisney ever do parades like the other Disney parks?"
"Not unless we glued the characters to their floats."
Fair enough.
"Hmm," I mused, welcoming the sun's warm burn on my skin. "Favorite Disney princess?"
Zeke shot me a weird look, sitting forward. "Are we doing an icebreaker now?"
"No," I scoffed. "It just seems appropriate."
"Well...probably Merida. She's independent and un-princesslike, if you get what I mean."
"Yeah, I do. Is she here?"
"Yes."
"Cool. Mine is Anna," I said. "She is also un-princesslike and her personality is unique." I inhaled deeply, smiling to myself. "Okay. Favorite villain?"
Zeke chuckled at this question, his smile revealing the dimples again. "Any favorite villain I may have had in the past is gone now. They're all menaces."
True. "Then, overall favorite Disney character."
"Koda from Brother Bear." He didn't even miss a beat saying it.
"Seriously?" I didn't actually expect him to have one.
"Don't judge," he said. "What about you?"
"Esmeralda."
"Good choice."
"Thanks."
When silence fell, I leaned back, contining to sunbathe as I yawned. Soft music was playing through the speakers around the park. Right now it seemed to be Whistle While You Work. I closed my eyes to relax for a moment as Zeke's walkie-talkie crackled again. When will I get a walkie-talkie? "Zeke Warner, the founders would like to speak with you and Gianna Yumia," a voice said.
Zeke and I exchanged startled looks before he nodded to himself, unclipping the walkie-talkie to speak. I swallowed nervously. "Copy, we're on our way."
I hope this is a good thing.

Chapter two! I know the chapters are pretty short...that's one thing I'll be changing when I do eventually edit/rewrite. :D
