The Winning Nominees

Cherry Hill, New Jersey

Isabella's POV

The smell of pasta filled my nostrils, as my husband was cooking. My eye were glued to the television, as I was watching MSNBC. This was a very big election year. President Bridges is making this nation go to heck in a handbasket, with his stupid policies. My highest hope is that Senator Richards will win the nominee.

Breaking news filled the screen.

Sarah Butler's POV

We got some breaking news! Virginia Senator Katherine Richards has won the nomination for the democratic side!! She has won North Carolina, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Arizona, and Michigan, by a whopping 871 votes! She is the democratic nominee!

Isabella's POV

My eyes were as wide as a whale's mouth, after hearing about the results. Senator Richards won the nomination. I did a happy dance on the sofa in the living room. However, my happy reverie was cut short, after hearing some more breaking news.

Sarah Butler's POV

This just in! Mississippi Senator Randy Keen has won the republican nomination! He has won North Carolina, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Arizona, by a whopping 981 votes!

Isabella's POV

If Senator Keen wins the election in November, its all over for this country. Truth be told, I heard someone say he would lead us to a dangerous war with Iran! It wouldn't bode well! This guy is a total nutjob! And, he wants to create separate schools for blacks and whites! What is this? 1955? It feels like we might go backwards, if this fool gets elected. Feeling a chill run down my spine, I tried to brush off the thoughts, and eat this pasta that my hubby cooked.

"I made the meatballs nice and delicious, hon!" said my husband, Ben.

I ate my spaghetti and meatballs, savoring the zing, that my husband added. "Babe, you're an excellent chef! You cook way better than I do!"

"Don't sell yourself short, honey!" chuckled Ben, sitting down to eat. "You cook just fine. Pepsi?"

"Yes, please."

Ben passed me the bottle of Pepsi, and I poured it into my red cup, my soda foaming as it reached the end. I drank it, and I heard a negative attack ad, against Senator Richards.

"Honey, I think you watched enough politics for one day," said Ben. "Its getting to your head."

"I'm just so nervous that if Senator Keen wins in November, this nation is screwed," I said, a lump forming in my throat."

"That's why its so important to get out and vote!" said Ben, washing his pasta down with his Pepsi. "Man, this pasta is delicious! I'm ready for my second helping!"

The very idea of a Keen presidency didn't resonate well with me. I got up from my chair, and just shut the television off for a while, and read a book. I sat down on the leather sofa, with the lamp on, casting a shadow by the wall.

Reading is always a great escape.
