CHAPTER 4

My breath caught in my throat at his words, the weight of his implication sinking in. The tension in the air thickened as the gravity of the situation became painfully clear. I exchanged a wary glance with Ishani di, silently pleading for answers amidst the turmoil.

"Vikrant , please," Ishani di interjected, her voice tinged with desperation. "Stop this argument. We need to sort things out calmly. I have already tole you that i will divorce you so please stop insulting me and mg brother."

The tension in the air was palpable as Ishani di's words hung heavily between us. Vikrant's jaw clenched, his expression a mixture of frustration and hurt. I reached out, placing a hand on his arm in a silent plea for restraint.

"I understand your anger, Vikrant," She continued, her voice trembling slightly. "But we need to find a way to resolve this without further accusations or hostility."

As the weight of the truth settled upon me, I felt a wave of disbelief and anguish wash over my senses. My family's betrayal cut deep, leaving me grappling with a sense of abandonment and confusion. How could they have married her off to Vikrant, knowing the consequences it would bring to her?

My gaze drifted to Ishani di, her figure a heartbreaking reminder of the collateral damage wrought by my family's actions. The pain etched in her eyes mirrored my own turmoil, and I couldn't help but feel a profound sense of guilt for the role I unwittingly played in her suffering.

With a heavy heart, I withdrew my hand from Vikrant's grasp, a silent acknowledgment of the irreversible damage that had been done. The time for recriminations had passed; now, all I could do was try to salvage what little remained of the shattered pieces of our lives.

Someone purposely kidnapped me and left me after the wedding day. They did so they could fulfill their enemity with me. But who this person could possibly be?

"Meera" Just like always, the sound of my name on his lips stirred a familiar flutter in my heart, but this time it was different. He wasn't just "my man" anymore; he was married now, committed to another. I couldn't ignore the reality of his new life, nor could I selfishly pursue a relationship that would only bring pain and turmoil to all involved.

With a heavy heart, I reminded myself of the vow I had made to never be the cause of someone else's suffering. I couldn't bear the thought of being the catalyst for tearing apart a home, of inflicting the same pain on another that I had experienced myself.

Drawing in a shaky breath, I steeled myself against the lingering ache of longing and regret. No matter how much it pained me, I knew that I had to let him go, to respect the boundaries of his new life and find a way to move forward on my own path, however uncertain it may be.

"Stop it, Vikrant. Because of this girl, our friendship is at the verge of breaking, my sister here had to marry someone she doesn't love. All because of this girl. Didn't you have brains. Couldn't you tell anyone that you like someone but you just went ahead with your boyfriend by eloping right on your wedding day. You made a joke of everyone, your family, my sister and ofcourse Vik-"As Shaurya's accusatory words pierced the air, I flinched, bracing myself for the onslaught of blame and recrimination. My instinct was to defend myself, to protest that I was not to blame for the chaos that had ensued. But before I could utter a word, Vikrant's voice cut through the tension, his words laced with bitterness and betrayal.

"It was not her," Vikrant declared, his gaze fixed on Shaurya and Ishani with a mixture of disgust and contempt. "It was your sister who made a fool out of me. She married me by betraying me. If I had known that beneath the veil it was her and not Meera, I would have never married her."

I stood frozen, the weight of Vikrant's revelation sinking in. The truth hung heavy in the air, casting a shadow over our already fractured relationships. The lines between friend and foe blurred, leaving me grappling with the harsh reality of deceit and betrayal of my own family.

"And about her running away from me, well i would have dragged her back even from hell to be with me again but just because of this liar bit-"

Tension crackled in the air as Shaurya's fury boiled over, his grip tightening on Vikrant's collar as he intervened to protect his sister.

"How dare you talk to my sister like that?!" Shaurya's voice thundered, his eyes flashing with righteous anger.

"Stop it, please," I pleaded, my voice barely above a whisper as I turned to Ishani di, the exhaustion and pain etched across her face a stark reminder of the toll this confrontation was taking on all of us.

"Meera, come with me. We're leaving," Ishani di said firmly, reaching out to take my hand. "Fighting with each other won't solve anything."

"But dii, what about mom and dad?" I looked at her, concern etched in my voice.

"Don't worry, I'll talk to them," she assured me.

"You guys can fight here all night, or we can go back home and find a solution," dii said, her tone firm as she glared at both Shaurya and Vikrant.

Shaurya left, shooting me and Vikrant a final glare before disappearing into the night.

How was I supposed to fix something that I didn't even break? The weight of the situation settled heavily on my shoulders as I contemplated the daunting task ahead.
