"Mason?" I knock on my brother's half-open door before poking my head into his simply decorated bedroom. His walls are painted light grey because apparently any other colour is too overwhelming and distracts him when he is gaming. Other than a few family pictures hanging on the walls, the only source of colour in his room is the handmade quilt our mother made him. The quilt is a mixture of blues and greens, and Vienna has a matching one that is purple and pink. As for Mason himself, he is sitting at his desk with his headphones on, dialled into Fortnite. "Hey, Mas?"

"Hang on," Mason mumbles distractedly, his thumbs rapidly moving over the controller in his hands. His character dies seconds later, and a curse slips from his lips as he drops his controller and tugs his headphones off before turning to face me. "What's up?"

"Do you want to come to Matt's with me?"

Mason's eyes widen in intrigue. "Really? Now?"

"Now," I nod in confirmation, grinning when Mason reaches behind himself to shut off his computer.

"Yeah, okay." Mason hops up from his chair, acting as if my invitation isn't out of the ordinary, but the excited glint in his eyes betrays his true emotions. "You should change before we go. You look like a rat."

I scowl at my younger brother and flip him off before spinning on my heel to saunter back downstairs. "Says the kid with cupcake frosting all over his face and his shirt on inside out!" I call over my shoulder, laughing when Mason groans in response.

Half an hour later, Mason and I are standing on the front steps of the triplet's house, each of us clinging to a dog leash.

I changed out of my old sweats and into a more presentable pair of cargo pants and one of Cam's t-shirts layered over a long sleeve. I usually don't care much about my appearance, but whenever I know I'm going to be seeing Matt, I find myself wanting to spend extra time getting ready. Thus, I now spend at least an extra ten minutes in the bathroom, usually scowling at myself in the mirror while I do my hair or makeup and ponder why the fuck Matt has infiltrated my brain in the way he has.

"I'm nervous," Mason whispers frantically as soon as my finger hits the doorbell. "Are Nick and Chris here too? What if none of them like me? I'm around girls all the time, I don't know how to interact with guys!"

I smile at Mason fondly and ruffle his curly blonde hair. "They'll all love you, Mas. Just be yourself. They all like Fortnite, you can bond over that."

After I told Matt the truth about my family, I knew that I didn't want him to have to keep my secrets from his brothers. And I trust Nick and Chris, which is why I told them both everything a few days ago. Just like Matt, neither were upset that I lied to them, and they were very supportive. I think I ought to talk to their parents, because holy hell did they raise their boys right. Maybe they could give me some tips.

The door is soon pulled open to reveal a grinning Matt on the other side. His gaze rests on mine for a heartbeat and he sends me a quick wink before he focuses on my brother. "Hey, man, you must be Mason. I'm Matt."

"Hi." Mason smiles shyly, subconsciously drifting closer to my side.

"And I couldn't forget about you two!" Matt drops to a crouch to greet Chandler and Joey, who are straining against their leashes to reach him. He laughs when they start licking his face, and the angelic sound turns my body to jelly. Be cool be cool be cool.

"Come in." Matt ushers us inside, his hand casually brushing across mine before he closes the door behind us.

Mason's eyes wide as he takes in his new surroundings. He has always been a big observer, and I have no doubt that his brain is racing to process and draw connections. Chandler and Joey bolt up the stairs as soon as I unclip their leashes, and the sound of a shriek soon echoes through the house.

"Holy shit!" Chris groans loudly, the noise reaching the three of us as we climb the stairs. "Chandler, you can't-eugh! I don't want your tongue in my mouth!"

"Joey!" Nick's voice chimes excitedly. "Give me a hug!"

A bubbly laugh slips from my lips when the living room comes into my sight. Chris is laying on his back on the floor and Chandler is standing above him, trying to reach Chris' face through the boy's hands. Meanwhile, Joey is already curled up in Nick's lap on the couch, his tongue hanging out of his mouth as Nick plants kisses on his head and rubs his back.

"They like them," Mason observes quietly, a tiny grin blooming on his face. "Joey's usually so shy."

"Shows you that you don't need to be nervous," I whisper, gently squeezing his shoulder before I nudge him forward and raise my voice. "Chandler! Off!"

The over-excited golden retriever immediately sits down right next to Chris, his big brown eyes focused on the youngest triplet as he sits up and scrubs the sleeve of his hoodie over his mouth.

"Never thought I would make out with a dog," Chris mutters, his face scrunching in disgust. "Don't look at me like that, Chandler. I'm not a chew toy."

"You sure look like one," Nick snorts in amusement, his hand still gliding through Joey's fur.

"Guys," I interrupt, fighting to keep down the giggles rising in my chest. "This is my brother, Mason. Mason, this is Nick and Chris."

"Hey, dude!" Chris climbs to his feet, a bright grin on his face as he steps closer to Mason to dap him up. "How's it going?"

"I love your shirt." Nick gently pushes Joey off of him and stands beside Chris to greet my brother. "Is it actually from Redwood National Park?"

"Yeah, we went camping there last summer." Mason's lips tip up in a small smile, and he tugs on the edge of his blue t-shirt, the motion indicating his nerves.

"I want to go there so bad." Matt joins the conversation, offering Mason a gentle smile. "Did you like it?"

"Yeah, it was awesome," Mason nods, his tensed muscles relaxing slightly. "Lots of really good hikes. And we went biking which was awesome."

"That's really cool," Chris grins, seemingly genuinely interested. "And I hear you like Fortnite?"

Mason nods again and his smile grows, the last of his anxiety slipping away. "Yeah, I do."

"Well, you're in luck, because so do we!" Nick grins at Mason and gestures for him to follow to sit on the couch. "Want to play now?"

"Hell yeah!" Mason beams, scampering after Nick to the couch as Chris moves to set up the game on the TV.

A smile settles on my face as Mason eagerly chats with Nick, and my hand settles on Chandler's head when he sits down beside me. When Chris makes a joke and Mason laughs loudly, my heart tightens, and my eyes grow misty.

"Hey," Matt nudges my arm with his, turning my attention to him. "You okay?" His fingers rest on the edge of my wrist as he peers at me in concern, not missing the way my eyes are watering.

"Yeah," I laugh lightly, lifting my hands to swipe under my eyes. I'm not crying, but emotion is pinching at my chest and pressure is building under my eyes. "I'm being dramatic."

"No, you're not." Matt's gaze searches mine, his expression soft. "What's going through your head?"

"He's seemed so lost in the last couple years." My eyes flicker to my grinning brother, whose eyes are bright as Chris hands him a controller. "Especially since Austin left. I just want him, and all my siblings, to have the world, and it fucking kills me that I can't give them everything. It's nice to see him happy like this."

"I think you deserve more credit than you give yourself." Matt shifts his fingers to wrap his hand around mine, offering me a gentle squeeze. "But for now, just know that Mason is welcome here anytime. He seems like a sweet kid."

"You don't even know him," I whisper, taken back by Matt making such a declaration.

"But I know you. And that's enough for me." Matt grins at me before dropping my hand. "However, right now I'm going to be a dick and tell you to get lost."

"What?" I laugh in surprise, not expecting to hear those words come out of Matt's mouth.

"I want to get to know Mason without his big sister hanging around." Matt shrugs, a coy smile growing on his face. "You're welcome to hang out in my room, but there's also a dog park down the street, and I saw that you have a book in your bag. Care to explain why you thought it was necessary to bring a book when you were coming to see me?"

"You never know!" I huff defensively. "Best to have one in case of emergencies."

"You are such a nerd." Matt rolls his eyes, but the grin stretched across his face suggests he doesn't mind my nerdiness at all. "Now get out of here."

"Such a gentleman," I chuckle, shaking my head in disapproval. "Mason, I'm taking the dogs for a walk, I'll be back in a bit."

"Okay!" Mason replies, his eyes not leaving the screen as he carefully selects his character.

"Matt, let's go, we're getting started!" Nick calls impatiently from where he is sitting on the edge of the couch beside Mason, and like my brother, his gaze is glued to the sceen.

"Thank you." I catch Matt's attention before he joins the others on the couch. "Seriously. This means a lot."

Matt shrugs, a light flush rising to his cheeks. "No big deal."

"It's a big deal to me." I grin at him one more time before calling my dogs to my side. "See you guys later!"

Choruses of goodbyes follow me as I go back down the stairs to the front door, and as I head into the warm sunshine with Chandler and Joey, I realize that despite the turmoil that is occurring on the internet, my heart is lighter than it's been in a while.

When I walk back in the house a couple hours later, Mason pounces on me in a flurry of excitement.

"Can I go get pizza with Nick and Chris?" Mason's blue eyes are wide as he shakes my arm, wanting an answer instantaneously.

My gaze meets Nick's over Mason's shoulder, and the eldest triplet smiles reassuringly. "There's a pizza place within walking distance. We won't be gone long."

"Sure." I grin when Mason beams and promptly spins away from me to fall back into conversation with Chris, who daps me up before nudging my brother to head to the front door.

"Matt just went to grab something from his room," Nick tells me as Chris and Mason disappear down the stairs, their loud voices echoing behind them. "We figured we'd give you guys some time to talk or whatever. And Mason's an awesome kid, by the way."

"Thanks, Nick." I give him a quick hug before he jogs down the stairs to where Chris is hollering for him to hurry up, and I head down the hallway to Matt's room, my dogs disappearing into the living room to sniff out any potential crumbs.

Matt's bedroom door is open, showcasing him rifling around his desk. I hover awkwardly in the doorway, unsure what to do with myself. "Hi."

Matt looks up, a grin spreading across his face when he sees me. "Are you going to come in or just stand there like a weirdo?"

I huff in exasperation, stepping into Matt's room to plop onto his bed. "You're a bully."

"And you're a nerd," Matt counters, returning to poking around on his desk. After he uncovers his phone hidden beneath his journal, he drops into his desk chair, fixing his gaze on me. "What're you thinking?"

Matt's question is easy to answer, since it is not related to my family, and I enjoy being honest about my feelings. Yet, Matt's intense gaze makes me nervous, and I don't like the fluttering feeling in my stomach. "I don't know how to act around you," I admit, scratching the inside of my palm with my nails on my opposite hand. "It's always been easy with you, but now there's so much else to consider, and I don't know who I should be."

"Be yourself, stupid. I like you best that way." Matt stands to relocate from his chair to his bed, reaching to his bedside table to grab his tv remote. "What's your favourite movie?"

"Oceans 11," I reply easily, scooting further back on the bed to sit beside Matt and lean against his pillows. Despite being half a foot away from me, Matt's body heat surrounds me like a comforting blanket, and the bold part of my brain begs me to shuffle closer to him and curl up into his side. However, the wimpy bitch part of my brain demands that I stay put, and that is the voice I listen to.

"A movie about deception, I shouldn't be surprised," Matt chuckles, quickly finding the movie on Netflix and pressing play.

As the opening credits start, I shuffle lower on the bed to get comfortable. My gaze catches on the time when my phone glows with a notification and my heart drops to my ass when I see that it's 2:30. Both the triplet's and my videos are set to automatically upload right now.

Sensing that my attention has drifted, Matt casually reaches out to pluck my phone from beside me. He doesn't look at the screen, but stacks his phone on top of it and deposits them on the table beside him.

"What do you think everyone is going to say?" My voice is quiet, and I hate the uncertainty that lines my tone.

"It doesn't matter," Matt says firmly, leaving no room in his voice for debate. "We don't need to worry about it."

"Doesn't it bother you what everyone's saying about you?" I roll my head to the side to look at Matt. He is leaning back against his pillows, one of his arms behind his head and the other tossed lazily over his stomach. His legs are crossed at the ankles, and his eyes are focused on the screen. He looks relaxed, and I envy him. My insides are rolling with nerves.

"Of course it bothers me, but I'm not going to let it get to me." Matt shifts his gaze to look at me. "I know what they're saying isn't true, and I know what the people I truly care about think of me. And that's all I need."

I heave a sigh as I nervously chew on my bottom lip. "Yeah. I guess."

"Don't think about it right now." Matt carefully reaches forward to push my hair behind my ear, sending electricity shooting through me where his fingers brush my skin. "Now tell me why you like this movie so much."

the alignment feature is being stupid again so hopefully this uploads okay🫠

i'm having friend drama right now and it's stressing me out cause i don't know how to probably deal with confit and i am terrible at setting boundaries and saying no! i am such a people pleaser and it gets me in so much trouble sometimes😔

question of the day! what is your favourite season and why? i've always been a big fan of fall because i love the vibes of the leaves changing colour (and ontario gets the prettiest falls), and the transition from thanksgiving to halloween to the christmas build up is the best. but this year i'm really vibing with summer cause i just want to be at the beach or on hikes with my dog all the time!

for any christians out there (or non christians who want some new vibey music), josiah queen's new album is an absolute bop. anyways, i hope something makes you smile today! i love you all so much🩷
