1998 - Reggie

It was a long day at work, I was ready to go home but I needed to finish this case so it meant working until night. This was a big case as well, me and my team had worked with the FBI to bust a drug cartel. I had a lot of evidence to look through but thank god the FBI had brought it all over because I didn't want to go back and forth between the evidence we had at the station and at their headquarters. I had hidden myself in the evidence room so I didn't bother the detectives who were on the night shift. I sighed as I wrote some stuff up on my report, leaning against a wall as I did so. I set my papers down and pulled on some rubber gloves before I looked through some more evidence.

As I looked through stuff a box caught my attention. It was labelled the Sanguis Dei case. I immediately lost interest in what I was doing as I picked up the box and placed it on the ground. Kneeling down in front of it I opened the box and looked inside. There was a small VHS tape holder with four tapes in it so I pulled that out so I could have a look at the other stuff inside. There were folders of different papers and some of them had photos. I pulled the folders out to see if there was much more left in the evidence box. There were some lab results and some more photos as well as a list of where the evidence was. I looked through some of the papers I soon grew interested in and invested in the case. I knew I had to finish my case and then I wanted to work on this one because it wasn't finished. I put everything back in the box and I began to finish off my report. Thankfully it didn't take very long to complete since I was working my ass off. I placed the papers on my Captain's desk, leaving a note to say I was reopening the Sanguis Dei case and working on it myself before I quickly grabbed the box of evidence.

Praying that no one saw me as I made my way to my car, clutching the box of evidence to my chest. I fished my car keys out of my pocket and unlocked the car. I put the box into the backseat before I slipped into the driver's seat. I was dying to get home so I could watch these tapes. I had never seen a case like this, it was really interesting and I had always wanted to work on a case about a cult. I pulled out of the parking lot and started to drive off towards my house. As I drove I turned the radio and started to hum along to Pretty fly (for a white guy) by the Offspring. I sighed a little as it started to rain. I hated driving in the dark when it was raining but I could cope. I yawned and rubbed my eyes. Maybe the tapes could wait till the morning? I could at least watch one, hopefully they weren't too long.

I pulled into my reserved parking lot outside my apartment block and turned the engine off. I got out of the car and opened the door to the backseat, pulling out the box of evidence. I shut the door and locked the car before quickly running inside. "Hello Reggie," A woman's voice said. I looked over at the elevators and saw one of my neighbours Ms Beatrice Trevor. I smiled softly and I said, "Hey Mrs Trevor? What're you doing up this late?"

"Just returned home from visiting my son in New Zealand."

"Oh cool, do you need any help with your bags?"

"That would be lovely, thank you dear."

I picked up her handbag and placed it on top of the box I was holding before I grabbed her suitcase in my free hand. "What's in that box of yours Reggie?" She asked as she pressed the button for the elevator. I glanced down at it before looking over at Beatrice. "It's just some stuff for a case I'm working on, I can't really say much about it I'm afraid," I explained. She nodded in understanding, looking over at the doors of the elevator as she said, "I understand that, can't go around telling old ladies about police work, I might gossip about it to my knitting friends." I chuckled softly as the doors opened to the elevator. I let Beatrice go in first before I stepped in after her. I pressed the button for the 21st floor and the doors began to shut. "How is your son?" I asked.

"He's good, he's enjoying New Zealand, apparently everyone's very nice there and he's made some good friends."

"That's good to hear, I've always wanted to travel over there one day, maybe just for a holiday. Is he in the North or South island?"

"South, he's living in a nice city called Christchurch."

"Oh yeah, I've heard it's nice there."

She nodded, smiling softly. "It is," She said. It didn't take long for us to get to the 21st floor and once we arrived I let her out first once again as I followed after her again. Beatrice unlocked the door to her apartment and pushed the door open. I walked inside and asked, "Where do you want these?"

"Just put them in my room dearie."

I nodded and walked to her room, knowing where it was since we have the same layout of the apartment. I placed her bag on her bed and placed her suitcase against the bed. I walked back out to her and smiled. "Right, I'll leave you to it, it was lovely seeing you again Ms Trevor, I hope you sleep well," I said. She smiled warmly at me and nodded. "You too Reggie, sleep well, good luck on the case," She said. I nodded, thanking her as I left her apartment. I pulled the keys out of my pocket and unlocked the door to my own place. After I walked in I shut the door and locked it so no one would try to enter. I flicked the lights on, lighting up the apartment. I chucked my keys onto my dining table as I walked over to my couch. I turned on the TV and the VHS tape player before I placed the box onto the table to get the tapes out. I stood up and found a note book so I could write notes about the case. I grabbed out the first one and took it out of the case before slipping it into the tape player before I sat down on the couch as it started to play. The tape was about an hour long but I wanted to get through it.
