December 19th Goa Liberation Day.

Before the 18th century Goa was peaceful, 

then Portuguese rule brought prosperity,

but after India got its Independence, 

they tried to show the Portuguese their authority. 


The government of India adopted a plan,

called operation Vijay, to expel the Portuguese,

after forty hours of conflict,

the Portuguese army was on its knees.


The government of India under Jawaharlal Nehru launch operation Vijay to free the Portuguese colonies in India. By December 11th 1961 Indian forces under the rule of General Chaudhari were placed at Belgaum, Vapi and Una ready to attack Goa, Daman and Diu. They used the Indian Air Force and Navy. All operations in Goa came to halt at 6.00 pm on December 19th1961. The document of surrender was signed by the Portuguese governor General Salo e Silva at 7.30, so today so today is Goa liberation Day.
