December 11th International Mountain Day.

Mountains cover 22%

of earth's land surface,

inhabited by 915 million people,

13% of global human race.

Mountains provide fresh water,

also energy and food,

but their third world inhabitants

facing poverty, have to be shrewd.

Although mountain people are farmers,

they make handcraft things as well,

produce coffee, cheese and herbs

along with medicines, all to sell.

This day is to show the importance of mountains to life and promote mountain products.

Today is International Mountain Day, designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 2003, to be celebrated on December 11th each year. In England a Marilyn is a mountain or hill with a height of at least 150 metres (492 ft) this name was a pun in contrast the the word Munro, a Scottish name for a mountain with a height of more than 3,000 feet (914.4m). Mount Kea in Hawaii is 4,000 ft taller than Everest if measured from its undersea base , over 6,000 people have climbed Everest .
