It had snowed overnight, but it would not last. The thaw had started already, turning snow to slush, and slush to mud.

Puppy stared out the door, refusing to come out. It was the first time he had seen snow, and Puppy was scared. So, Missy picked him up and carried him down the lane before putting him down.

"Walkies!"

Puppy shivered and looked longingly after Missy. He knew Missy was going home, and he would have to brace this world of mud and ice. He made his mind up.

Missy and Puppy headed for home, back to the warmth.
