Comeuppance
♦•••♦•••♦
Jimin awoke with the sunlight pouring over his pleasantly well-rested body. Despite his closed eyelids, he could perceive the bright sunlight, informing him that the storm had passed, bringing on a beautiful aftermath of rainbows, chirping birds and heady petrichor.
He turned around to stretch his limbs, hands feeling around for a certain someone, sadly, all his hands felt were cool sheets. He quickly sat up, looking around the room.
He sighed, disappointed at the lack of Jungkook in his bed. He rubbed his eyes, mentally cheering himself to get on with his day. Getting up, he looked around, the sheets wrapped around his waist, and his eyes landed on the neatly folded pile of his night-clothes on the piece of furniture at the foot of his bed.
Jimin's lips stretched at the widest angle and he reached for the clothes. There's no surprise who did this little task. Smiling still, he put them down and gasped as he glanced at the clock on the nightstand.
He overslept!
'That explains the disappearance,' he thought, legs automatically walking him towards his ensuite bathroom. Within half an hour, Jimin walked downstairs, greeted by an officer at the base of the staircase.
"Breakfast is served," he saluted.
"Is the Commander around?" Jimin questioned as he walked towards the kitchen, the officer following in his footsteps.
"No Sir, Commander left for the headquarters two hours ago," he informed and Jimin dismissed him with a nod. Guess he is going to eat alone today.
♦ Kookmin headquarters:
Jungkook went over the strategy with the supreme leader. There were hardly a few days left to set this plan into motion. Everything had to be perfect, no discrepancies, at any cost.
"So?" Jungkook looked hopefully at his father's face, asking for his approval.
A resounding knock interrupted the leader, who called the person in who had knocked. Instantly, six men barged in with stacks upon stacks of papers, files and folders.
"Records, Supreme Leader," the one with the glasses bowed slightly. Jungshin gave a curt nod and the men exited as quickly as they had come in.
"So, yes," Jungshin started but Jungkook's eyes were wandering over the stacks strewn across the carpet, taking up one whole corner of his father's office.
"... We have to consider the unlawfuls-"
"Do you hear that?" Jungkook glanced at his father and back to the papers.
"Hear what?" Jungshin looked at the spot his son was staring at.
"Bomb," Jungkook whispered before he reached over and heaved his father off his chair and over the desk. Being taken by surprise, Jungshin's body had slacked, but then he immediately willed his body into autopilot and co-ordinated with Jungkook to get the hell out of his office, he watched on as Jungkook shut the sturdy door behind them and they ran away from the office.
A loud explosion boomed and the building rattled as they left the immediate area of the office and continued running until they reached at the end of the wing.
"That was my secretary," Jungshin sounded livid.
"He couldn't have left yet," the Commander immediately set off, running away. Jungshin took a moment to breathe and ran after him as well.
Skipping steps, shoving people out of the way that tried to make sure he is unharmed, he reached down and jumped into his jeep, eyes already locating the vehicle that looked the size of a mustard grain on the horizon. Assaulting the accelerator, he chased after the other jeep. One hand used to steer the wheel while his non-dominant hand pulled out a pistol, ready to shoot tyres as soon as he gained the opportunity.
The supreme leader took a bit longer to join the chase as his safety was the top priority, but he ordered his men to assess the damage to their building instead of his body. Having gotten himself out of their suffocating attention, he reached down and looked to the one jeep disappearing across the horizon. He quickly ran and jumped atop a tank and swiftly landed himself inside before closing the top. He steered the beast out of the compound, manoeuvring it past the people that ran around. Once he reached the open road, he accelerated the metal destroyer and scoped out the vehicle, identifying it as his son's jeep, bearing the designated emblem.
He drove past him and gained aim of the vehicle ahead, its passengers frantically trying to propel the vehicle past its speed limits.
Jungshin, being the certified God of tanks, turned the turret at a precise angle whilst chasing after them and shot a single high explosive round. The immediate path before the escaping jeep was blown out of existence and said vehicle was blown up and away, landing on its side — flipping several times through the air before its imminent crash.
The supreme leader knew they needed to catch them alive, but he also knew those guys would shoot back if his son tried to neutralize them, thus this necessary measure. Regardless, he knew Jungkook would be annoyed, but, oh well.
Within minutes after the crash, Jungkook's jeep and Jungshin's tank arrived at the site in succession. They saw the men crawling out of the wreckage, heavily wounded as blood coated their bodies, which made them start working on rounding them up. One of the less wounded men produced a pistol and fired in the supreme leader's direction, sure of his aim. His plan was foiled by Jungkook's reflexes as the commander shielded his father with his body. He looked down at the right side of his ribs, a small hole which poured out thick crimson blood.
"Ow," he looked back up at the man, eyes blazing.
Said man's eyes widened when he saw Jungkook's expression and he freed himself to run away from the site. Unfortunately for him, Jungshin was done neutralising the rest and shot the culprit in his thigh, rendering him unable to continue his escape. He turned around and tried to shoot again, but this time Jungkook shot the gun out of his hand, two fingers flying away with the gun.
The commander neared the man and put his knee on top of his chest, holding him down. With his hands, he held his hands together and pinned them up before cuffing them with very little struggle. Jungshin neared them, expression calm. He scanned his secretary's face.
"Oh Will," he patronised.
"It was King Kim! He ordered for you to be assassinated," the man screamed.
The supreme leader's face showed confusion momentarily.
"He has no motive of conflict with-"
"He does father, he does have," Jungkook blurted, unable to keep it from him anymore.
Jungshin eyed him in a way that meant we'll take this conversation elsewhere and Jungkook got up, ready to haul the man into the back of his jeep. He did so with the others and took them all to the headquarters, whereupon they were arrested and were to be tortured for their crimes before being killed off in the worst way possible.
♦ Kookmin headquarters, a random room:
"Explain," Jungshin sat at the desk and poured two glasses of rum, handing one to his son before gulping down his own.
They had cleaned Jungkook's wound and wrapped him up, all good to go.
"Kim wants you dead, our whole rule for that matter," Jungkook averted his eyes, vision concentrating on the amber liquid of his glass.
"Because we defeated him?" Jungshin's face showed confusion.
"We took his son," no use trying to hide it now, Jungkook decided.
"He requested the alliance," Jungshin's eyes held that familiar blaze that equated to his utter disapproval.
"He never wanted us to take his land, not while he lived at least," Jungkook sighed, "so he plotted to play with us, sent his servant in place of his son to infiltrate and destroy us from within."
At his words, Jungshin's mind provided him with a memory. He came to a quick realisation, almost smiling sinisterly.
"You knew before this incident," Jungshin pinned him with his eyes, calculating each micro-expression that crossed Jungkook's face.
"How long?" he questioned when his son seemed incapable of forming words.
"Several months," Jungkook whispered in the tiniest of voices.
"Very well then, you know the protocol," Jungshin stood, "bring both the mole and the real prince in imprisonment and declare war with Taniland. I need the royal family captured alive," he spoke as he wrote said orders and signed them, promptly handing it over to Jungkook to relay in the lower ranks.
He watched Jungkook leave his office with slumped shoulders. He knew what his son felt, he almost sympathized. Sitting down, he poured another glass of rum and drank from it, visualising light-brown eyes he had pinned against his office door days ago.
♦ Supreme leader's residency:
Jimin was so immersed in reading a book called 'Last' by an esteemed author — Beautiful_Tempter — that he jumped in surprise and dropped the book as Jungkook entered the room.
"Good afternoon," he placed the book at the bedside table neatly, intending to pick it up later.
He frowned when Jungkook didn't say anything, instead, he went straight to his cupboard and started bringing his clothes over to the bed.
"If you want me to come back home with you, just ask," Jimin grinned at him, finding it amusing, "maybe if you ask nicely, I'll agree."
Jungkook still seemed deaf to his words and continued moving his entire closet over to the bed. He then heaved his suitcase over and started filling it.
"Jungkook?" Jimin started to suspect something was amiss here.
"You will need warm clothes too," Jungkook looked around the room, "did you bring any with you?"
"No," Jimin frowned, getting up and following his husband around the room, "care to explain what is the matter?"
"Fuck," Jungkook muttered and removed his overcoat and folded it roughly before placing it inside the suitcase and securing it shut.
'That should do' he thought.
He finally looked up at Jimin, disliking his lost expression.
"The supreme leader knows about you, we are at war with Taniland," Jungkook looked at him with pained eyes.
"How?" Jimin started shaking, fear paralyzing him and holding him in place.
'Did he tell on me?' he did not want to believe that line of thought.
"Your King ordered an assassination on my father, I had to come clean," Jungkook now seemed angry, a little betrayed if you ask him.
"So, taking me to my imminent death I see," Jimin moved forward, eyeing his husband with a small smile.
"No!"
Jimin startled with the intensity Jungkook spat his word, it seemed he had been offended.
"You're leaving Kookmin land, going as far away as possible," Jungkook explained, moving away from Jimin.
"I would do no such thing," Jimin seethed.
"You would be executed!" Jungkook all but screamed.
"Then I will face the consequences of my actions, you don't have to commit treason for me."
"I already have! I kept the truth hidden long enough," Jungkook grit his teeth, hands clenched into fists.
"Please, go, there isn't much time left," Jungkook moved forward and cupped Jimin's cheeks, heart pinching as he felt tears on them.
"I am not running away!" Jimin held Jungkook's wrists, eyes blazing with determination.
"Don't be foolish," Jungkook warned, "this is the only way."
"I am not leaving my family behind to be slaughtered just so I could escape my comeuppance," Jimin moved out of his hold.
"I'll join you later, after I finish my duty to my motherland," Jungkook swore.
"You're not the only family I have."
Jungkook's face fell at Jimin's words.
"Let me go, I have to warn them," his mind reminded him of his brother but he knew better than to mention his existence.
"I won't allow that," Jungkook shook his head. He seemed to think of the consequences.
"I have a duty to my motherland too!" Jimin screamed at him, "they took me in and raised me, I can't let them die like that."
"And I am the fucking Commander and son of the man your King tried to kill, I will not let you help him."
Jungkook's words dripped with venom.
"Then you're not supposed to help me escape either," Jimin pointed out.
"I know, I should be the first one to put a bullet in you."
"Why don't you then? I know you fantasize about it," Jimin really shouldn't provoke him, but hell, it felt good.
"Because I love you!"
Jimin physically recoiled at his statement. At the beginning, he could have believed these words, would have even rejoiced at them, but now, under these circumstances, it didn't seem right. Jungkook would be in trouble, surely.
"I fucking love you! I tried so hard to hate you, I can't! I can't help but betray everything I've known and stood for," he soundly fell to his knees, hands coming up to rub his face roughly.
Jimin couldn't move, just stood trying to comprehend everything that smacked him in the face, caught off-guard.
Moments later Jungkook looked up at Jimin, eyes shining with the water that swirled in them.
"Jungkook," instinctually, Jimin went to kneel before Jungkook and cupped his face, he then crashed his lips against his beautiful man's.
Jimin still didn't know what to think of his confession, but his body moved on its own accord to comfort his husband. He kissed him deeply and leisurely until both of them couldn't ignore the burn of lack of oxygen that had settled into their lungs.
"Don't," Jimin whispered against his lips, forehead touching as they breathed each other in along with the much needed oxygen.
"Don't betray your country, don't do anything for me," Jimin spoke softly.
"I can't lose you," Jungkook shook his head, moving away.
"You won't, we'll figure something out, but no one is going to run away from this," Jimin pulled him back by the front of his shirt and pecked his lips.
"Okay," Jungkook looked at him, gathering a little bit of control and nodded, "okay," he said against his lips and kissed him back.
They sat there for several minutes, just kissing and basking in each other's presence, both unsure if they would ever get to experience this but none admitting to it out loud.
An hour later, Jungkook shut the door to Jimin's side and climbed in the driver's seat. He glanced at his husband and smiled back as he secured his seat belt.
Wordlessly, he started the jeep, driving to their destination. A destination that would bring undoubted chaos and pain to their lives, yet, they were both smiling foolishly.
"Jungkook?"
"Hm?" Jungkook glanced at Jimin before looking back at the road.
"I love you."
He looked back at Jimin, stopping the jeep simultaneously. He grinned before he leapt ahead and mauled his husband's lips with a string of 'I love you too' scattered in between kisses.
Soon enough, they were once again breathless with red lips and tousled hair. He restarted the jeep and set course in such a slow speed even a tortoise could have defeated them.
Jimin giggled as he realised Jungkook's tactic at delaying their arrival. Jungkook glanced at him smiling and Jimin returned it with an eye smile of his own.
Now they were headed to a destination that would bring undoubted chaos and pain to their lives, yet, they were both smiling, smiling foolishly in love.
