Chapter 7 ✨

"HAHHAHAHAHAHA... One job. Mister Pretty had one job: get information and leave with everyone safe. But what do I hear? Your colleague is fucking gone, and the great ol' L.K. took him!" Jeongin screamed at Jisung, his laugh taking on a psychotic undertone as he banged his hand on the table, making Jisung flinch.
Shit.
He knew he had messed up. He knew he had to face the repercussions, but experiencing it certainly didn't feel great. He listened without saying a word, but his mind was still racing.
I mean... who took Hyunjin? The boy was just next to him right before the lights went out.
Jisung's thoughts raced as Jeongin's words echoed in his mind. Could it have been Minho? The timing seemed suspicious, and he couldn't shake the nagging feeling that Minho might have been involved. He resolved to talk to him later, but first, he had to deal with Jeongin.
"What's the matter, Jisung? Cat got your tongue?" Jeongin taunted, his eyes gleaming with malice. "Or are you too scared to admit you failed?"
Jisung clenched his fists, his jaw tightening. "I didn't fail. Hyunjin's disappearance is on me, but I will find him."
Jeongin's laughter turned colder. "You think you can just brush this off? No, we're going to settle this right here, right now. Let's fight, if I win, I get to beat the shit out of you and if you win, you get to leave here and continue your mission without any injuries."
Without warning, Jeongin lunged at Jisung, throwing a wild punch. Jisung barely dodged, feeling the air rush past his face. He countered with a swift jab to Jeongin's ribs, but Jeongin absorbed the hit and retaliated with a vicious uppercut that caught Jisung on the chin, sending him staggering back.
The room seemed to close in around them as they traded blows. Jisung's vision blurred as he took a hit to his temple, but he managed to land a solid punch to Jeongin's jaw, splitting his lip. Blood dripped down Jeongin's chin as he grinned maniacally, the metallic taste fueling his rage.
Jisung felt a trickle of blood run from his nose and the corner of his mouth, but he didn't let up. He focused on Jeongin's movements, anticipating his next strike. He ducked under a wide swing and drove his shoulder into Jeongin's midsection, knocking the wind out of him. "Trying to act tough eh?"
Jeongin stumbled back, clutching his stomach, but he quickly regained his composure. With a feral scream, he charged at Jisung again, his fists flying. The impact of their punches echoed through the room, each strike leaving both of them more battered and bruised.
"Stop this, you know I couldn't have done anything. This is stup-," Jisung wanted to explain but was quickly cut off with Jeongin's words, "This is not about him or this mission Jisung. I just don't like you,"
Just as Jeongin landed a brutal punch to Jisung's ribs, sending a sharp pain through his side, the door burst open. Felix, the superintendent, stormed in, his eyes widening at the chaotic scene before him.
"What the hell is going on here?" Felix bellowed, his voice cutting through the tension like a knife.
Both Jisung and Jeongin froze, their breaths heavy and labored. Blood smeared their faces, their knuckles raw and bruised. They turned to face Felix, the anger and frustration in the room palpable.
"Explain yourselves," Felix demanded, his stern gaze shifting between the two.
Jisung wiped the blood from his mouth, taking a shaky breath. "It's my fault, sir. I lost track of Hyunjin. Jeongin... he's just angry."
Felix's eyes narrowed. "This is not how we solve problems. Jeongin, to my office. Now."
Jeongin couldn't register what was happening at the moment. He wasn't supposed to be here. Fuck. I think he'll kill me.
Jeongin hadn't moved an inch, his eyes wide as Jisung placed a caring hand on his shoulder, even after their fight, and shook him a little to gain his attention.
"I don't need your kindness," Jeongin whispered into Jisung's ear. Jisung only nodded in return. Something was wrong; Jeongin was acting weird.
The two senior officers left as Jisung received a call from someone he'd been wanting to talk to since Hyunjin's disappearance.
"Hey."
Listening to the voice, Jisung knew right away who it was. "Minho?"
"Wanna go on a date?"
Woah. What? Jisung was a bit taken aback when he heard those words. I mean, of course, he was attracted to the man, but Minho was part of the mafia. Hell, Jisung didn't even know what Minho would do to him.
"Yes."
Ah... young love.
"But wait... how'd you get my numb-"
The call disconnected. In the next few seconds, the same number sent a message.
Meet me at 7 pm at the Skz Bar. *Sends location*
Jisung's mind was conflicted. I mean, of course, he said yes. How could he not? But the situation was making him feel uncomfortable. Minho wouldn't do anything to me, right?
Paying no mind to it, Jisung made his way out of the police station when he heard loud crashing noises. He tried to follow the sound and noticed that in Felix's office, Jeongin was being bashed onto the shelves by the blonde.
The boy was bleeding from his nose. "You're annoying, you know that?! Don't you fucking understand that you'll ruin everything if you threaten Jisung? Unlike you, he actually has talent, you piece of nepotism," Felix spat out.
Jisung crouched by the door, peering into Felix's office through a small crack. He watched as Felix, his face twisted with rage, continued to pummel Jeongin. Blood smeared Felix's fists, and Jeongin's face was barely recognizable, covered in cuts and bruises.
"You think you can just mess everything up, don't you? You'll ruin my whole fucking plan." Felix snarled, his knuckles making sickening contact with Jeongin's ribs. Jeongin's groans of pain were muffled by the blood in his mouth.
Jisung's heart pounded in his chest. He couldn't let this go on any longer. Summoning his courage, he cleared his throat and coughed loudly, making his presence known.
Felix paused, mid-swing, and turned slowly. His expression shifted from fury to a chillingly pleasant smile. "Ah, Jisung," he said in a disturbingly kind tone, his voice dripping with false warmth. "Hello there."
Jisung stepped into the room, his eyes flicking between Felix and the battered Jeongin. "Felix, what is going on here?"
Felix wiped his bloody fists on a handkerchief he pulled from his pocket, as if he had merely been working on a messy task. "Don't worry about Jeongin. He's just receiving some much-needed discipline." He glanced at Jeongin's crumpled form on the floor and then back at Jisung with a smile. "You're off the L.K. case for now."
Jisung frowned. "What? Why?"
Felix's smile widened, but his eyes remained cold. "Because you have a new task. You need to arrest Yoon within the next week. If you don't..." He pointed at Jeongin, who was barely conscious, blood pooling around him. "You'll end up just like him."
The casual way Felix issued the threat sent a chill down Jisung's spine. He nodded, trying to keep his composure. "Understood."
"Good," Felix said brightly. "Now, run along. You've got work to do." He waved Jisung away as if dismissing a servant.
What should I do now ?
