Personality: Caleb has a dry, sarcastic (sometimes dirty) sense of humour and often uses it in inappropriate situations. He's cocky and seems relaxed in all situations, no matter how awkward of serious. He's extroverted and extremely social. He flirts with just about anything that moves but never gets attached, leaving before a real, meaningful bond can develop. He's headstrong, hot-tempered and quick to pick fights. He seems to be living life to the fullest and enjoying it thoroughly, but he hides behind his confident facade.
Deep down, Caleb's lost and afraid, trying to adjust to a life he never wanted. He's self-loathing, having become what he hated. He's still buried in the past and his regrets, unable to move on and embrace the vampire life. He struggles with self-esteem and loneliness, since everyone he knew was human and he can't risk meeting them for fear of hurting them accidentally. He picks fights so he won't fight himself and his humour is a coping mechanism. He's terrified of getting attached for fear of losing them or them peeking under his facade. He can't bring himself to hate humans and instead turns the hatred in on himself. He feels like it's his own fault for being turned and can't forgive himself for it. In a world of ancient vampires and tough hunters, Caleb feels like a vulnerable little boy.

Backstory: His father was hard on him as a child, being the only living heir to an ancient and powerful hunting family. By thirteen, he had killed his first vampire, albeit with his father's help. Though his father was hard on him, the two were close and had a positive relationship. They were satisfied with life for several years, living in a small apartment with each other and several hundred movies for company.
However, after reaching late teens, Caleb began to do what most teenagers did, rebel. He wanted to go outside, make friends, kiss girls and his father, after much nagging, begrudgingly let him get to know the residents better. After getting comfortable with the practice over the next few years, his father allowed him stay late in a bar with a group of friends. Having begun dating one of the girls a few days prior, Caleb and her left to kiss out in the street after complaining from the group about the constant affection.
Unfortunately, his father had killed a vampire a few days earlier and his adoptive parent was searching for revenge. Caleb presented her with the perfect opportunity. If she couldn't have her son, why should he have his? When the two were kissing, she struck, snapping the girl's neck and grabbing him. She swiftly started the turning process as Caleb was caught off guard.
Over the few months he had been vampire, Caleb had avoided his father, blaming it on himself for being unprepared, not knowing his father had unintentionally played a part. He did little with his life and became extremely aggressive, being the cause of most fights.
