ACTIVITY CHECK ---|
Rose sat under the night sky, staring at her tribemates with an unreadable gaze as she watched them brush past her into their dens for the night.
A white she-cat turned to meet her stare.
"What's with the funny looks, huh?" they asked, as Rose sighed, shaking her head.
"I'm sorry, I got lost in my thoughts. I just thought maybe if a traitor was here, I'd be able to find them..." she mumbled, shifting her gaze in favour of staring at her paws.
She looked up for a moment, squinting at Quartz. "I don't trust anyone, there's traitors among us."
Quartz rolled her eyes, looking at her friend in amusement.
"You care too much. There can't have been that many, maybe Tree was the last one."
Rose shook her head.
"Won't you come with me? We could discuss my investigations," she offered, as Quartz tilted her head slightly. The she-cat sighed, nodding.
"I won't sleep tonight anyway. Let's go."
----------------
They kept walking until they reached the mountain lake, a peaceful area to the right of the tribe's main camp.
Quartz shivered, cutting Rose off halfway through an explanation.
"You have some good points... But it's getting cold out, can't we go back now?" they asked, as Rose narrowed their eyes.
"You're worried I'm going to accuse you next?" she demanded, as Quartz stared back at her in confusion.
"No, that's not what I meant-" she hissed, as Rose's voice became louder.
"Maybe telling you was a mistake, maybe you are one of them! Tell me, is there darkness in your heart too? Are you destined for the dark forest?" Rose growled, advancing angrily as her friend stepped backwards, hurt visible in her gaze.
"Maybe you need a break from investigating. The Rose I knew before this whole thing happened was calm and logical... You're letting this get to your head. I'm going back to camp," Quartz meowed firmly, disappearing as she stalked off.
------------------
Rain had begun to fall, a crash of thunder breaking Rose out of her maddened trance.
She froze, panting as she finally calmed down from the frenzy of her fear. Her eyes widened, blinking suddenly.
"Oh stars... Quartz? Quartz?!" Rose pleaded, shakily getting to her paws as she looked around the lakeside in a panic.
I left her to the darkness by herself...
A cat appeared behind her, as Rose stared, confused.
"Hello? H-Have you seen Quartz?" she asked, her tone still shaky.
The cat stared at her blankly, their eyes gleaming as they remained silent. Then, without warning, they charged forward, pushing Rose into the lake as she struggled to stand. Another traitor appeared by their side, forcing her to stay underwater as the she-cat choked, trying to escape their grasp.
Rose struggled for a moment longer before falling limp, her body eventually being washed onto the rocks to the right. The traitors nodded to each other, disappearing with the sounds of approaching cats.
Rose That Grows By Water has been killed. She was the Elder.
------------------
Quartz was uncharacteristically quiet after the tribe discovered her friend's body in the deep waters, having informed them about her disappearance.
'How could I have left her like that... I'm such a fool...'
She sat at the back while Stoneteller was in the midst of the worried crowd of cats, trying to restore order to their discussion.
"It is a painful loss indeed, but arguing will get us nowhere. We must find out the culprit, in hopes of exiling the next traitor. Let us discuss."
