[Light Yagami x Reader][Edited may 9th 2019][AU]

~

The smart, shy boy sat at the back of the classroom, hoping to be hidden. Hoping not to be seen. Unless it was by her. The gorgeous (Hair coloured) haired girl sat in the row in front of him with her crowd. Her crowd was really the only problem. They were popular, she was absolutely adored, he was ridiculed.

Day after day, he would watch her from the shadows. He would admire her every feature, movement and change. He knew more about (Y/N) than most would realise. By just watching her, he knew her so well, without having exchanged a word. He had learned to read her like a book, and with things floating around the school about her, he was sure he knew more about her than any of her friends. Most would call it creepy that he watched her day after day, others would tell him to speak to her, but he never would.

He would never dare talk to her. It wasn't her. He would love to talk to her. But after all this time, he's seen boys come and go, flocking at her feet, but her friends were like a pack of wolves protecting a cub, or guards, protecting a precious gem with their lives. They would rip him apart like an orange in a blender.

Not only that, he was terrified of rejection. He just couldn't see how she would ever consider him. He wasn't even sure if she knew who he was. Perhaps seen his face once or twice, but he would only be known as the nerd at the back of the classroom.

He leaned forward on his desk to listen in on (Y/N) telling the story of another horrific date.

"Yeah... It was pretty bad..." She sighed, her eyes casting down dejectedly. "It was like he was too distracted to even pay attention to me. He was always on his phone too... And I don't like to judge, but the restaurant was pretty trashy..." She sighed lightly. "I don't know guys, I don't have much luck with guys, its like they don't even care about me, they just want me for the sake of having me." She finished her little rant. Her friends all had an enraged look and were passing secret looks between each other. Light knew what that meant.

He felt bad for whoever it was who had taken (Y/N) on a bad date.

He also felt bad for (Y/N). He knew how all the boys looked at her. Less like she was a person, more like something to own and show off to your friends. They didn't care about her personality, only her body and reputation. It made Light sick to his stomach.

He knew just how much she was worth and how amazing her personality. She was just so pure and it pained Light to know these other egotistical boys might tarnish that while Light could do nothing but watch her, day after day. Then and there he vowed to tell the beautiful (Y/N) how he felt, despite his crippling shyness. He just had to work out how to do it.

Thankfully it was lunch time. You were still feeling a little dejected about another horrible date, lessons weren't making it any easier, but lunch break gave you a little respite to collect yourself and prepare for the long afternoon sessions. Only two of your friends were sat with you this lunch. The other had some 'business' to deal with, but what it was, they wouldn't tell you. You were quite suspicious though, whenever you had a bad date, your friends would go missing and said boy would wind up in the nurses office. A little more than a coincidence, you think.

"I'm going for a walk to clear my head. Alone." You add 'alone' when your two friends jump up from the table. You walk out of the dining hall, feeling everyone's eyes following you. It's always like that. It's not a bad kind of staring, but it does get suffocating. You soon arrive at your locker. You sigh and rest your head against it. You can hear your friends yelling at that boy just around the corridor. They really are your friends, they're just very, very overprotective...

"Excuse me?" A timid voice calls. You wonder if someone is talking to you, so you lift your head from your locker, and sure enough, to your left is a boy. He's in your classes. Light Yagami. The cute nerd at the back, with floppy brown hair and chocolate coloured eyes. Adorably shy.

"Hi, Light." You smile. His eyes become a little wider and a faint but evident pink blush coats his cheek.

"You know who I am?" He seems shocked, but that strange question shocks you.

"Of course I do." You smile kindly. How could you ever ignore the most adorable boy ever? He blinks over and over, as if he's trying to understand that fact that you know who he is. He clearly doesn't know just how cute he is.

"I, uhh... Well... I wanted to..." He fumbles over his words a little, you smile reassuringly, you don't like anyone to feel nervous or uncomfortable around you.

"(Y/N)!!" Your little posse comes speeding around the corner. You had failed to notice the yelling had stopped about a minute or so before, which was your cue to get out of there if you wanted to be alone. They gather around you in a protective huddle.

"What are you doing talking to him?" "What are you doing?" " come on, (Y/N)!" "Let's go!"

They're all paging you from different sides, trying to heard you back with them, so you may take your place on the throne of popularity. That thought makes you sick... You shush them all down.

"What was it, Light?" He shuffles nervously and tugs on his shirt collar. He stands up straighter, looks you in the eyes and clears his throat.

"I would like to be your boyfriend." He states confidently. There's a moment of shocked silence. Then your group bursts out laughing. You block them out. He likes me? If only you knew how much...

"You? Oh dear!" "She's too good!" "She's amazing!" "You couldn't get someone like her!" His face registers hurt and he puts his head down with a nod.

"Light!" You yell out, as he's turning away. You surge forwards out of the group of girls.

"Do you really mean it?" Your eyes are wide and pleading. How could he ever lie to those beautiful (Eye colour) eyes?

"Of course." He says with as much confidence as he could manage.

"Then I would like to be your girlfriend." You can't believe your luck. You've hooked a good one.

"There's no need to say that to spare my feelings." He says dejectedly. You can tell he doesn't believe you. You won't let him slip away from you. You do what you have to to make him believe. And that means grabbing his by the shirt collar and slamming your lips on his.

    "Believe me now?"
