(A/N): Okay, this one is gonna be pretty sad and quite long so you have been warned. Just another idea that flew into my head when I was walking home from college a few days ago lol. Alright, let's get into it.

L's Pov

Before I knew it, it was too late.
There was no way we could avoid the fate that had happened...

Flashback

Your Pov

I was on a bus coming home from work. I worked in a bakery in another part of town so I had to get the bus there and back all the time.

"Oh my god! No way! Honestly, when I get home, I'm gonna bake a cake for you!" I say to L. I was calling him through video call.

"You're too kind to me (Y/N). You really don't have to, you know" L replied back to me, showing me that sweet smile.

"Of course I do! After everything you've just done for me, you deserve a treat!" I giggle.

"Aw. Why thank you (Y/N). This is why I'd never leave your side. You're always doing nice things for me" L said, with a cute giggle.

I giggle back, then smile back at him.

It seemed so nice. Talking to L like this every time I came home from work. I always wanted to check on him and make sure he was okay. I was always worried about him.

Everything was fine...until that point.

"So, how's work been for you (Y/N)? I heard you're having to work later and for even longer now. I'm sure it can't be easy for you" L asks me.

"Yeah, it is a little tricky. We're short staffed now so that's why I'm w-"

And that's when the impact happened...

"(Y/N)? (Y/N)?! CAN YOU HEAR ME?! WHAT'S HAPPENED?!" I hear L shout before I blacked out.

L's Pov

All I heard was a crash and (Y/N)'s phone flew out her hand. I could no longer see her. All I got was a view of the roof of the bus she was riding in.

But it didn't look pretty...

I panicked and ended the call. I immediately traced our call to find where (Y/N) actually was and I had Watari drive me to the location straight away.

Once I got there, it was a disaster.

I saw the bus (Y/N) was riding in when I got out of the car. It appeared that a lorry had collided with the bus, injuring everyone inside. The bus was on fire too which made everything so much worse. There were fire engines, ambulances and police cars everywhere.

I was in so much shock. I had to get to (Y/N)! I had to make sure she was okay!

"Please let me through! My girlfriend is in that bus! I have to make sure she's okay!" I say to the police officer.

"I'm sorry sir, but we can't let you through. This road is dangerous now" he replied.

"Please! I'm L! You need to let me through!"

It was at that point the cop let me through and I rushed over to the scene.

I saw paramedics rushing into the bus to get people out on stretchers and into ambulances. I saw two of them carry out (Y/N).

My eyes widened at the state she was in. I never imagined I'd see her like this. She was covered in bruises, cuts and burn marks.

I rush over to her.

"I-Is going to be okay?!" I ask the paramedics.

"Sir, we're going to do all that we can to make sure she recovers but she'll have to go through lots of operations first. We'll do what we can" was the reply I got from the male paramedic.

"But you have to save (Y/N)! She's my girlfriend!" I shout.

"We'll do our best to help (Y/N) sir" the female said. "Now this area is dangerous so you should leave. If you give us your name and phone number, we can contact you. But now isn't the best time to be around this area. The bus is on fire and so we would advice you to go home for now as it could explode. We don't want more injured people."

"Please can I ride in the ambulance with you. I promised I'd never leave her side!" I say, tears forming in my eyes as I grab (Y/N)'s hand and hold it tight.

"Sir, I'm sorry but you have to-"

"I'M L! AND I WANT TO BE WITH MY GIRLFRIEND! I DON'T WANT TO SIT BACK AND WAIT FOR A PHONE CALL! I WANNA BE THERE FOR HER! PLEASE LET ME GO WITH HER! PLEASE!" I scream.

"...okay. You can ride with us..." the male paramedic said.

"Thank you..." I say, forming a small, sad smile as tears fell down my face.

We all got in the ambulance and (Y/N) was rushed to hospital. I had Watari go back to the taskforce and alert everyone of the incident.

I held onto (Y/N)'s hand that was covered in blood for the whole journey. I didn't care if my hand got blood on it. I just want (Y/N) to be okay.

We got to the hospital and I was told to wait in the waiting room. I was told I couldn't go into (Y/N)'s room whilst they were plugging her to a heart monitor. Even when I told them I was L, I was told I'd be let in when they had finished connecting everything up.

I sighed and crouched on a chair outside the room. I was shaking. I had never been so scared in all my life.

When I was eventually let into the room, the doctor gave me some tragic news.

"(Y/N) will be in a coma for quite some time. We don't know what will happen. The chances are even if she does recover, she won't live long."

My eyes widen.

"W-Well what can we do?!" I ask.

"There are only two options: We can disconnect the heart monitor. Of course, that'll mean that (Y/N) will die instantly. Or, we can wait however long it may be for her recovery and see how long she'll have left to live" the doctor said sadly.

I sank down. No matter what...(Y/N)'s life will end...?

End Of Flashback

(Still L's Pov)

I waited...

It had been 3 months and (Y/N) still hadn't woken up.

I was beginning to lose hope, but I couldn't give up on her! Not now!

I hadn't left the hospital all this time. I always stayed by (Y/N)'s side. I promised her that. I didn't sleep, and I only ate when the doctors brought me snacks.

"(Y/N), please wake up soon..." I whisper quietly to her. "I need you."

Nothing...

I sigh and rest my head in her chest.

"Dammit. Even if she does wake up, she won't have long left to live! Why does everything bad always happen to me?! Why do I always lose the ones I care about?!"

I couldn't stop the tears from falling down my face and onto (Y/N)'s shirt.

All of a sudden, I felt something shift underneath me making me shoot back up into a sitting position.

"(Y-Y/N)...?" I whisper, my eyes widening.

"L..."

I hear her voice...

She slowly opens her eyes...

"(Y/N)!" I cradle her in my arms and cry softly.

"L...you're okay..." (Y/N) whispers with a smile on her face.
"I'm so glad..."

"Oh (Y/N)...I thought you were gone for good..." I say, although I almost crack at the thought of (Y/N) not having long left to live.

"L...I know what's going to happen to me..." (Y/N) said. "I may have survived the coma, but I don't have long left to live, I know that for sure."

I let go of (Y/N) and she looks into my eyes.

"Well...at least I'm alive to say goodbye to you at least..." she said with a smile.

"You...You shouldn't say things like that!" I say to her, tears forming in my eyes again as I grab (Y/N)'s hand. "You're gonna be okay! I know it! You're alive after all, so you're gonna survive! Right?!"

(Y/N) opened her mouth to say something but was cut off by the doctor walking into the room.

"Oh, (Y/N) survived the coma" they said.

"What's going to happen to her now?!" I ask, fearing for (Y/N)'s life.

"Well, I'll need to run some tests to answer that question, so I will need you to step outside for a bit but I will let you know as soon as the tests are finished" the doctor replied.

"Wait! You can't-"

"L...Please listen to the doctor..."

I look down at (Y/N) who had half closed eyes and was smiling at me, sadly.

"It'll be alright. Trust the doctor."

I took (Y/N)'s word and stepped outside.

-Soon-

"Mr Ryuzaki" the doctor called for me and I sprinted back into (Y/N)'s room.

"How is she?! What's gonna happen now?! How long does she have left?!" I ask.

"I'm terribly sorry..." the doctor said.

"(Y/N) only has one day left to live..."

I look down at (Y/N) with wide eyes.

She was smiling again. How could she be smiling through this?!

"Oh well, I guess it's it for me then..." she said as tears fall down her face.

"Doctor...could you give us 5 minutes please?" I ask.

The doctor nodded and left us.

"This...This can't be happening!" I say, grabbing (Y/N)'s hand again.

"I'm afraid so..." (Y/N) said.

I begin crying. (Y/N) puts a hand on my cheek.

"Whatever are you crying for?" She asked.

"Isn't it obvious? I'm going to lose you (Y/N)!" I cry.

"Please don't cry. You're L! The L! There is no reason for you to cry..." she says, her smile not fading.

"But...You were the only person, besides Watari, that I fully trusted. Someone I could always turn to! And now you're going to be taken away from me! I DON'T WANT YOU TO GO (Y/N)! I DON'T WANNA BE ALONE AGAIN! PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME!"
I wail, unable to stop the tears from falling down my face.

"Hey, it's okay! I'm not gonna leave you L!" (Y/N) said. "I'll just no longer be in your presence. But don't worry because I will always be in your heart."

"There were so many other things I wanted to do with you (Y/N)..." I say. "I wanted to travel the world with you! I wanted to find a home for the two of us! I even wanted to marry you!"

(Y/N)'s eyes widened and her smile turned to a more shocked expression.

"Y-You wanted to be my husband?" She asked, tears forming in her eyes as well as a little blush.

"Well...yes. I even went out and bought a ring to propose too...It was gonna be a surprise for our anniversary that's coming up in a month's time...but I can't do that now. CAUSE WHENEVER ANYTHING GOOD HAPPENS TO ME, IT ALL JUST GETS TAKEN AWAY! JUST LIKE THAT!"

Tears fall again. I notice (Y/N) started crying.

"Aw, now I'm crying" she smiled through her tears.

"I never wanted it to end like this..." I whisper.

"Neither of us did L...but this is the way it has to be I'm afraid" (Y/N) sighs.

It was silent for some time, before I get an idea.

"(Y/N)?"

"Huh?"

"I'm gonna make tomorrow the best day of your life! I promise!" I say, shocking her.

"Wh-What?!"

"I'll make sure your last day alive means something. I wouldn't want you to die in vain."

"You'd do that for me?" She asks.

"Of course I would...I love you (Y/N)" I say, a small smile appearing on my lips.

(Y/N) covers her mouth and begins to cry.

"Thank you L! You really are amazing."

- The Next Day-

I ended up leaving the hospital today as I wanted to create something for (Y/N). I was going to surprise her. I did let her know before I left.

I headed back to the taskforce and as soon as I got there, all hell broke loose.

"Ryuzaki! Are you okay?! How's (Y/N)?!" Matsuda came running over to me, as well as Misa and Light.

"I didn't come here to explain everything. I came here to do something important" I reply, walking over to my computer and sitting in the seat.

"Did you come here, after 3 months of being by (Y/N)'s side, just to do more work?!" Misa asked, a little annoyed by that.

"No, I'm not working. There's just something important I have to do" I reply, not making eye contact with anyone.

Your Pov

I lay there, staring at the ceiling.

My last day alive? What was I to do?

"Oh, you're awake Miss (Y/N)" the doctor came in to check how I was doing. "How was your sleep?"

"Yeah, I didn't get much sleep last night. I was scared of what awaits me today" I reply.

"That's understandable. I can't imagine what it must be like for you. I'm sorry I couldn't do anything about this. The accident was very-"

"It's okay doctor" I interrupt, calmly. "You did everything you could and I appreciate that. Thank you" I smile and the doctor smiles back.

"Where's Mr Ryuzaki?" The doctor asks, suddenly noticing he wasn't in the room.

"He said he had to go back home today. He said he wanted to surprise me so he's away sorting everything out for that, I'm guessing" I say.

The doctor smiled.

"You really do have a very caring boyfriend Miss (Y/N). That's very nice of him."

I smile back.

"He really is caring. He's willing to do anything for me, no matter what the cause."

I start tearing up.

"He's always there for me and always makes me happy."

I then began crying. The doctor gave me a sad look.

"I know it's gonna be hard for the two of you" they say.

"I'm gonna be leaving him alone again! I don't wanna leave him on his own! He's already gone through too much!" I sob, my voice breaking.

The doctor didn't know what to say. They just stood there looking sad.

-Meanwhile-

L's Pov

"It's finished!" I say, putting my hands on my desk.

"What's finished?" Light asked.

"It's a surprise for (Y/N)" I say, taking a USB stick out of the computer. "I can't believe it took me so long to finish."

Light just looked at me funny.

"I can't explain. I really need to go now" I say, standing up. "Watari, I'll need your assistance."

-Soon-

Your Pov (again)

The doctor had given me some tea and left the room so I could collect myself.

I sit there drinking the tea in silence and looking out the window.

It was starting to get dark already.

'I'm sorry L' I think to myself. 'This is all my fault. I never wanted to cause you anymore pain. But I have. And I'm sorry. Please forgive me!'

I was then snapped out of my thoughts by the doctor opening the door.

"Miss (Y/N)? Your boyfriend is here to see you."

I smile and put the cup of tea on the table next to me.

I then watch as L comes through the door carrying a laptop and a USB stick.

"I'll leave you two" the doctor walks out and closes the door.

"I'm sorry I took so long. It took longer than I expected to sort all this out" L said.

"It's okay. You're here now" I smile.
"That's all that matters to me."

L smiled back and began to set up his laptop.

What was he doing?

"Alright, that should be it all set up" he said.

"You ready (Y/N)?"

I nod.

L turned off the lights in the room and hit play on his laptop.

I watched as a video played on screen.

"Hi there! It's (Y/N) here and I'm here with my lovely boyfriend Ryuzaki!"

I gasp.

"This is..." I began.

"...A collection of all our past memories..." L whispered.

I cover my mouth as tears form in my eyes.

"Today, we're gonna be baking a cake together!"

"Oh god! That was when we failed at trying to bake a cake! I remember that so well!" I giggle.

"It was pretty funny" L replied.

"Ryuzaki! You're getting cake batter everywhere! Slow down with the mixing!" I say in the video.

"Whoops! Sorry (Y/N)!"

"You silly goose!" I giggle again.

L giggles too.

"Oh no! The cake's burning! Take it out the oven Ryuzaki!"

L and I laugh at the stupidity in this video.

"Good times" L whispered. "Now onto the next video!"

"We're going to a trampoline park today!"

"Oh my god! Our vlog at the trampoline park!" I say.

"That was so much fun!" L said.

"Here we have L jumping up and down looking like an idiot" I laugh in the video as the camera was on L who was doing star jumps on a trampoline.

Tears start to fall down my face as the feeling of leaving all these memories behind struck me.

"Happy birthday (Y/N)!"

"Aww you put my birthday one in!"

"Of course I did. I put all the best ones in it" L said.

I couldn't hold it in any longer. I began sobbing.

"NOW I HAVE TO LEAVE ALL THIS BEHIND! WHY IS THE WORLD SO CRUEL TO ME!" I wail.

"Please don't cry (Y/N)" L hugged me tightly. "It'll be okay..."

I could tell from the way he said that, that it definitely wasn't going to be okay.

We continued to watch the video that played our past memories together, laughing and crying as it went along.

Soon a completely different video I didn't recognise played.

It was just L standing there.

"Um...Hello there (Y/N). Please tell me you're the only one watching this. It'd be embarrassing for the others to see this..."

Huh? What was this?

"(Y/N), as you know, we have been in a relationship for a long time and we trust each other very much. I can always count on you for everything. I love you so much (Y/N). With that being said, I'd like to ask you an important question. Answer me honestly here..."

I notice L pick up a piece of cardboard with some writing on it.

"Will you...marry me?"

"(Y/N)? Will you be my bride?"

I gasp as I cover my mouth again.

I turn to see L on one knee holding out an open box with a ring inside!

"Oh...Oh my god..."

I was speechless! I could barely find the words. I know he said he wanted to marry me, but...

"I at least want to create one last memory with you (Y/N)..." L said, his voice breaking.

"I...yes...!" I reply, crying again.

"I'm...so happy..." L started crying too and slipped the ring on my finger. Then he leaned in for a kiss. I returned it.

"At least...you can die happily now..." L said, wiping his eyes.

"Yeah..." I smile through the tears.

Suddenly I began coughing and choking.

"(Y/N)!" L grabbed me in his arms.

He gasped and his eyes widened as I cough up blood.

"This is it L...the end for me..."

"No! It can't be! Not now! Wait!"

"L...I just want to say thank you. For everything. For accepting me for who I was...For never letting me down...For always putting your trust in me...For making me...so happy...! I've never felt more happy than spending my life with you. Thank you for loving me. I'm so grateful for everything you've done for me! I love you L...don't ever forget that..."

"I won't! Not ever...!" L sobbed.

"Live on and be happy...Make me proud...That's my last wish..." I caress his cheek before I take my last breath...

L's Pov

Her arm drops from my face and her eyes close.

"(Y/N)...?"

She was gone...Just like that...

"I'm all alone again..." I cry as I pull (Y/N)'s lifeless body close to me and hold her tight.

What was I supposed to do now...?

Live on and be happy...That was (Y/N)'s wish...

I said I'd do anything for (Y/N) and I meant that. I can't let her down now.

I'll make her wish come true.

-A few weeks later-

"The criminal has been caught!" Matsuda cheered.

"Good work everyone" I say, smiling a little.

"Hey L? Are you feeling alright? You seem more...happy now?" Misa was a little confused.

"This is for (Y/N)..." I say, looking down at the floor. "Her last wish was for me to live on and be happy and that's exactly what I'm going to do. Every little thing I do, from now on, is for (Y/N). I wanna make her wish come true. I said I'd do anything for her and I meant that. It's all for (Y/N). I want to make her so proud..." I say with a smile as tears form in my eyes.

Misa started to cry.

"That's so beautiful..." she said. "(Y/N) was so lucky to have you!"

'Lucky huh? I was certainly very lucky to have (Y/N)...'

'Rest in peace (Y/N)...I love you so much...'

'Goodbye...'
