Dreamer

(A/N): Random question for all you guys but if you had to choose a favourite L X Reader oneshot of mine from each book I have made, which are your favourites? I mean from my first oneshot book, my second oneshot book and my third oneshot book that I am working on now aka this one! I'd love to hear your opinions! If there's any that has a lot of votes, I can try and do some art related to it. Yes, I'd even do a smut one if a lot of people say it's their favourite but I don't know how well it would turn out. How does that sound? Thanks for the support! ^^

"And then, the boy reunited with his mother and became happy again. He never had to live in fear ever again. The girl was really helpful to him so the boy offered to let her stay with him and his mother forever and she agreed and they all lived happily ever after..."

You closed the book you were reading to L and held it close to your chest.

"I love this story so much" you say. "What do you think L?"

He remained silent and pulled the covers over him as he rolled onto his side on the bed he was laying on.

You frowned. L wasn't very fond of that story.

"Hey L?"

"What?"

"Have you ever wanted to escape this orphanage and be free like the characters in the books?"

That was something that caught L's attention. He sat up.

"What are you talking about?"

"Well...You know how much I love reading, and the books I read all have really interesting stories. People go on wild adventures, meet new people, discover new things and start a new chapter in their lives! And it's all by going outside!"

You stare out the window in your room and put a hand to the class, watching snow fall down slowly.

"Don't you want that? Don't you want to experience fun things by going outdoors?" You turn to look at L who sighed.

"You know we can't leave this place (Y/N)..." he said. "Wammy's House is an orphanage for gifted children in hopes of getting them to become the next L, so it's hidden from other public places. Also, we'd most likely get caught trying to escape. And even if we managed to get out, we'd only get so far. We're only 10 years old after all."

"But you're now known as the best detective ever! Although you're very young, you started working on cases when you were only 7! You're bound to have loads of money so we can get out of here and start our new lives!" You say excitedly.

"You don't understand (Y/N). Being a very good detective is very risky. People all over the world now know about L. Some people want to track me down and challenge me. Some people even want to kill me and take my identity, so I can't leave this place because I can't afford my identity to be leaked to the public" L stated.

"But...No one knows what you really look like! It'll be fine!"

You reach out to take L's hand but he smacks it away.

"CAN'T YOU JUST LISTEN TO ME FOR ONCE?!" L shouts, making you anxious.

"I'm not leaving this place. Not now. It's too dangerous to go anywhere. I don't want my identity to accidentally get leaked out. Besides, if we leave, the orphanage will easily track us down and find us again. That is another risk. We can't have the general public know about Wammy's House. And...I like staying here, don't you (Y/N)?"

L looked at you and smiled.

"Well yeah. Wammy's House is nice, but I just don't like sitting around doing nothing all the time. I wanna chase my dreams you know? Just like the characters in the books I read!"

"I admire your motivation" L says. "But we can't afford to take any risks. For the sake of Wammy's House, okay?"

"But-"

"(Y/N)..."

You sigh and nod.

"...Fine..."

"Good. Now come on, it's late-"

"If you won't come with me, then I'll leave myself!"

L's eyes widened as he watched you grab you backpack and began stuffing all your things in it. He kicked off the covers and leaped out of bed.

"What are you doing?!" He grabbed your arm, stopping you from leaving the room.

"I'll leave myself! I want to explore the outdoors!"

"Why do you never listen to me (Y/N)?! You can't leave Wammy's House! It's dangerous!" L said, trying to pull you back.

"I don't care! I just want to be a normal girl who lives a normal life! Why are you trying to ruin that for me L?! I thought you were my friend! I thought you cared about me!"

Those words seem to shock L and he loosened his grip on your arm, making you break free.

"I should leave quickly" you say, heading to the door, but as your hand reaches the doorknob, you feel two arms wrap around you and pull you back.

"AH! L! LET GO OF ME!!" You wail, thrashing at him.

"(Y/N)! Let's calm down! You'll wake up everyone else! You're being too serious about this! Think this over!" L states.

"I've already made up my mind L! I'm a big girl now! I can make my own decisions!"

"I won't let you leave my side! If I'm not leaving, then neither are you! I can't lose you!"

You froze. What did he just say?

"You're my best friend (Y/N)! You think I'd ever just let you walk out and leave me alone?! I thought you cared about me! You know I was abandoned as a toddler by my parents and yet you still decide to abandon me now...?! That's not what friends do!"

"L..."

"And I don't want you to leave because what if you get hurt when I'm not even with you?! I would never be able to live with the fear of something bad happening to you! I care too much about you (Y/N)! Don't leave, not just for Wammy's House's sake but for my sake too!"

You could hear L cry softly into your shoulder, making you cry too.

You drop your backpack, making L let you go.

You turn to face him and smile at him through your tears.

"That's the first time you've said something like that to me" you giggle.

"I just don't want anything bad to happen. Especially to you (Y/N)! I mean it!" L says, looking you straight in the eyes.

It made you blush a little. You never expected L to say something like that.

"Please don't leave me alone (Y/N)...I don't want to be on my own again...I don't have any other friends...!" L begin crying again.

You suddenly felt really bad for him. You thought about leaving and never even considered how L would feel. You knew he found it difficult to interact with the other kids in the orphanage, so leaving him just like that...he would crumble! You were selfish.

"I lost my parents...I don't want to lose you too...Let's not lose each other..."

Those words made your heart sink. More tears made their way to your eyes.

"I'm sorry. You're right. I should consider everything you said and I should consider your feelings as well L! I'm sorry for being so selfish..."

You walk over to L and embrace him in a warm hug.

"I won't leave this place. I won't leave you."

Those words made L gasp. He wrapped his arms around you and gripped onto you tightly, as if you would change your mind and disappear just like that. He sobbed into your shoulder, his tears soaking through your shirt.

"Thank you...!" he sobbed.

He didn't let you go. He kept a firm grip on you.

"...I won't give up on my dreams though L. Please remember that..."

L nodded.

"I understand...But don't worry (Y/N)! One day, we will be old enough to leave and we can leave this place together! Okay?! Let's wait for that day together! Let's not rush anything!"

You smile and stroke his hair.

"...Alright then L..." You say reassuringly to him.

"Let's wait until then..."

(A/N): Sorry this one is quite short, I was kind of thinking of writing a part 2 for this. I was thinking of making the reader actually leave after having that talk with L about not leaving. Then L gets really worried. Would you guys like that?
